Just Another Musical Monday

I'm kinda surprised that folk pop artist King Charles hasn't really made it big yet (read: sold out to Gossip Girl or Grey's Anatomy). I mean, I'm not exactly a scenester*, but it seems like he's still takin' his dear sweet time on this side of the pond. I'm thinking it's because he kind of falls in his own nondescript category - and he can be a lil' obnoxious from time to time. Regardless, he finally has two songs on iTunes, so I reckon he's well on his way to making it on a Twilight soundtrack.

*Disclaimer: "I'm not exactly a scenester" is a hefty understatement. I mostly live under a rock. So it's quite possible that King Charles already has a love child with Miley Cyrus and hosts TRL every week (Is TRL still a thing?).

He first won me over with this little beat...

And his EP on iTunes has some lovely little running diddies to spice up your stride. I'm diggin' on Ivory Road...

Fare thee well,

Marathon Music

Holy smokes we're in the 'teens! Just a mere 19 days away from embarking on 26.2 miles of misery long-awaited adventure. So here's a question for you: to run or not to run with an ipod?

It's perfectly understandable that some would consider it rude for runners to trot along with their ipods. After all, hordes of folks have trekked out to the sidelines to yell and cheer the runners on, and there they go, just a'boppin' along to their Lady Gaga without a care in the world.

But at the same time, a marathon is a looooooong time to run. Anyway you bend it, there will be moments along the race when high-fiving a 5-year old on the sidelines just isn't enough to keep you going. A little jolt of some upbeat tunes is oftentimes the only way I can carry on.

So... to each his own, I reckon. For me, I'll be tuning in to my TBD (input needed!!) marathon playlist. But only at points along the course when the audience is sparse (or completely non-existent around Hains Point), and when I absolutely need that extra push.

Now comes the most important question: what tunes pump you up? We're working on the ultimate running playlist, compiling all of the best tunes from past Musical Mondays along with recommendations from our friends and readers. Send us your favorite running songs by commenting below and we'll pull together the Ultimate Marathon Playlist (I said that in a very dramatic voice in my head).

Just Another Musical Monday

My music library has been looking a little sad lately. And I just started a new job last week, so frankly, my days of searching for new tunes are a thing of the past. Thankfully, Megs and the fine gals of Urban Chic came to my rescue with a mix of older tunes and some lovely new additions to my playlist. Enjoy!

Just Another Musical Monday

Give this one a minute or two. It no doubt starts a little slow, but it'll grow on you as the song builds. Just sayin'...

Just a Jog.FM Musical Monday

Special thanks to running gal and college buddy Elena for the tip on jog.fm. Have any of you tried it yet? It's pretty much 'da bomb if you need a little extra pep in your step (or if you're sick in tired of EVERYTHING on your ipod like yours truly).

Basically, you type in your mile time, and it finds the best music to match your pace (it works for cycling/spinning too). As jog.fm puts it...

You know the feeling...
When that pump-up song comes on right as you're thinking of quitting.
Suddenly your second-wind kicks in.
When the song matches perfectly to your pace.
It almost feels like you're not even exercising.
[Ha! Clearly I took this directly from the website and this is not my own description]
That's what jog.fm is all about.

Check it out and report back!
