National Day Celebrations 2008

National Day will always be a significant part of my life.

It has been a significant part of my life since i was born. I remember when i was young, i never had the chance to watch the parade and only always caught it on Television with my parents. I still remember the times when i patriotically stood in front of the tv, said the pledge, and sang the national anthem.

Those were the days.

Now, national day has taken on a different meaning for me. It has become..
*blushes*

the time when dew dew first held my hand. =) hee. yes. bimbotic.

But hey, dont go thinking that im no longer patriotic to my country. I still love Singapore. Although, i probably no longer stand in front of the tv and sing the Majulah Singapura.

I feel like going deeper in the talk of patriotism. But i think, let's leave that topic for another day. Because today, i have pictures again! haha..

Pictures of the crowded squeezy Esplanade where all patriotic Singaporeans and foreigners alike have stood to catch a glimpse of the National Day Parade Live. as well as.. (and probably the main aim for all..) watch the Fireworks extravaganza.

And i know many people dont bother to read the captions below the pictures. why dont you try to make the effort to read it this time? the pictures would then hold more meaning for you. Rather than aimlessly looking through the pictures just to spot "fireworks?"

Then again, i guess if u were to read until here, you will probably have the patience to read captions.

Max brenner's. Amazingly, when we entered the shop, there were only 2 groups of customers.

And to imagine, there were like throngs of people outside squeezing at Esplanade Bay

Looking shagged after squeezing with the crowd
Finally, we get our peace from the noisy outside.

Above: Specks of gold dusted over the sky! I love that. if only those were magical powder that could grant us whatever wish we had!

Photobucket

above: This picture was taken at random just to test out the lightings and settings for the camera. But i was particularly drawn to it after scrolling through all the photos. I like the idea that a hand stuck out from the bottom left corner of the picture, pointing out to where the attractions were coming from. And heads all turned towards one similar direction.

Photobucket

Above: I like this picture as well because amidst the blurry crowd, a lone boy stuck out in the photo because he was sitting on his father's shoulder. When all were interested in the commotion going on at the attraction, this boy's head is turned down, making him seem uninterested in everything going on about him.
Yes, it can also be said as.. thinking too much about a photo badly taken. hehehe

Nice li' floats which were carried by small little boats.

Golden sparkles once again

This is how terrible the crowd is.

Above: all hands raised! just to catch a static moment of the fireworks

yet again.

the power of an SLR...

i learnt all the technicalities and how to use a digital SLR on Thursday. It was pretty darn interesting. However, i would not be able to imagine myself as a photographer. I lack visual artistic direction and i hate equipments.

I hate to do things related to settings such as white balance, AF, S-AF + MF, wtf??

I felt quite lousy at it coz i kept asking the tutor weird questions about the camera. By now, he probably thinks im a dumb student. haha. but hey! thats class participation ain't it? hee..

Anyhow, here are some amazing photos that turned out with a photographer's SLR at Dew dew's sister's wedding..

I reckon i will be using the DSLR pretty much soon for the next assignment as well. so, if i have the chance i will definitely upload all the photos i have taken with the DSLR to share with all!!

Photobucket

Dew Dew's shirt seem to kena smt. i wonder what. haha.. his sis and i looking curiously. Her hair is so pretty right! no wonder everyone says a girl looks the prettiest on her wedding day.

i want to get married too!

VERY VERY BIG CHICKEN CUTLET

Cervical Cancer Immunisation

I finally went to get myself jabbed for an immunity at one of women's most common cancers. Cervical Cancer.

The immunisation is a three step process requiring 3 jabs at 3 different period of times, namely 0, 2 and 6 months.

currently, most clinics and hospitals charge about $200 for each jab every time you go. i got a not bad deal out at a clinic i found charging me $540 for all 3 jabs. But of course, you pay first and then you come back for the 2nd and 3rd jab another time.

Here are some key facts i got from the Cervical Cancer brochure the clinic provided. i think its the same brochure all clinics provide.
- its one of the top 5 cancers in women in Singapore
- more than 1 woman die of cervical cancer every week in Singapore
- 1 woman in Singapore is diagnosed with cervical cancer every 2 days

So anyway, if it can be prevented, why not right? this is just a gentle reminder to all females out there to not be ignorant and think it will never reach you. Prevention is always better than cure isnt it?

so anyway, i went to Karri Family Clinic in Tampines. how did i find out about it? hehe.. he is the doctor of ieatishootipost! haha. interesting right? i knew about cervical cancer jabs long ago but only managed to start really researching on them during this holidays. And i was surfing thru ieat one day when i found the link to his clinic blog. so.. might as well right ? =) Dr Leslie Tay is quite good at jabs coz i did not even feel a thing when i was injected! Im amazed. but i guess its probably due to the spray thingie that he uses and the technique to jab coz he was damn quick. its the first time i ever see ppl inject so quickly in my whole life!

So save yourself today and prevent cervical cancer. Although the risk of getting infected with the HPV (human papillomavirus) starts from the first sexual encounter and lasts through a woman's lifetime, it is not necessary for one to have had sexual intercourse to get infected. From one of those articles ive read, i tink it is advisable for females aged 9 to 26 to get immunised. and also, females aged 20 to 26 have a higher chance of getting infected as well.

lets all get immunised today!

Heres a nice picture dew dew n i took at his sister's ROM.

Photobucket

I loooovvvvee the bouquet of flowers im holding. and no. fat hope. dew dew did not gimme that. haha.. it was the bouquet for his sis's ROM. Costs about $80 plus for just 16 or 12 roses.

so whats so special?

its not wrapped with your normal flower paper or whatever u call that. its just solely wrapped with ribbons!!

but frankly, i think i can do that. anyone wants me to try it for u ? ive seen how it is and i think i know how its done. hahaha.. i charge... $50! so much cheaper.

disappointment

just happen to meet a friend of mine yesterday and she came across to me as someone so different from what i used to know. the funny thing was, i actually just msged her a while ago before i actually saw her. what a coincidence i must say.

I guess i can type about it here since she probably doesnt read my blog anymore.

So anyway, i saw her standing at the side, with another friend. She looked so different from how i knew her to be. for that, i hesitated and wondered if i should even approach her. But my gut feeling told me to. i always hated it when people who know me do not acknowledge me by coming over to say hi and therefore i didnt want to become like one of them.

So i went over to say hi and i wonder if it was just my hyper-sensitivity or that i felt she was rather cold and aloof. She changed. thats the first thing that came to my mind.

And throughout the rest of the day, i kept asking myself.. what has become of her and can i do anything to reverse that? will the friendship still stay the same?

has she changed or did i change? do i no longer see things from her perspective? or is it otherwise?

Funny enough, it seems we keep meeting up through the day as i bumped into her on the same bus again. True enough as i expected, all i got was a little simple greeting from her even though i sat behind her on the bus. No further chatter which we used to have in the past even though we were with different groups of friends and happen to meet each other along the way. no more gossiping and giggling. Gone are all the truthful revelations we used to share.

I ask myself again. what can i do to reach out to her once again. and even if i do, will she reciprocate? im hesitant. im afraid really. im just scared. im confused. \

i wish to help. my only way now is probably to ask her out for lunch one day and hopefully, it wil materialise and things will take a turn for the better.

or is it just me living in the past?

money no enough 2

two things.
1. i do not have enough money. its impossible to raise $40,000 in 4 years given my current situation.

2. money no enough 2 made me cry.

now lets talk about the second point. I went to the cinema expecting a great laugh. ok. the jokes were not bad, really. before you read on, mind you, im a supporter of local movies.. so u shouldnt be expecting much criticisms if u are looking for any.

The movie was great. More of a heartlander sort of fun, with lots of Only-singaporeans-will-understand sort of joke. So.. i would say, apart from the terrible Computer generated graphics, the movie was great!

I felt that there wasnt a need for too much of the CGI because it made the whole set look fake. but oh well, we still got quite a laugh out of it.

However, what did intrigue me was the plot of the story. It seemed so simple, yet, it touched my heart nonetheless. It brought across to me a cold hard reality of life that is happening right in front of our eyes everyday. To the point that i felt i could connect with it and feel how the characters did.

This movie got me sobbing vigourously (as that is probably the only best word i can use to describe the violent vibrations from within).

I shall not describe further coz i dun wanna be a spoiler. i shall conclude with: if ure a true heartlander, you can probably connect with this show very well. go watch it and let's support our local movie industry!

and next up would be royston tan's 12 lotus. i cant wait for it to be out. =)
