omg.. they were sooo cute la! i meant .. the penguins as well as the rabbits in W & G.

DAY 5

Rise n shine..

first stop to the Muhammed Ali mosque. the mosque which used marble from one of the Giza Pyramids.

above: many chandeliers in sight...

not very inspiring la. so so only. i prefer the churches and palaces seen in Europe. they are what i really call, MAJESTIC , complete with intricate desgins..

Next stop was to the Memphis museum, which was the onluy thing left in Memphis, left undestroyed.

there, we saw the statue of King RamsesII.

king Ramses II lived til 100 and was known as the busy king. why busy?

coz he had many wives. if i m not wrong, he had about 42 wives in total. and he bore many children (100s i think )

so what does this prove?

this proves that if you wanna have a long life, you must have healthy sex life. haha... jk jk.. but of course not in such a promiscuous way.

i totally disagree with his behaviour. but he was the king. who was to defy him back then.

but then again, he was probably the admiration of many men at that period in time.

statue of king Ramses II upper body. the lower part was destroyed alr (no.. i dont mean it that way.. )

so you can imagine how large the staue originally was..

next stop was to visit the first ever pyramid in Egypt. Whats so special about this pyramid is that it is a step pyramid.

normal pyramids, such as those in Giza, are of a triangular shape. howevere, for this pyrmaid, it is shaped at the exterior in a form of steps. this pyramid's name is the Saqqara.

oh btw, why are pyramids triangular in shape?

this is because the triangle, according to the ancient egyptians represent eternity and ressurrection. This is so that after the ancient kings of egypt die and are buried in these pyramids, they would have an after-life. meaning, after their death, their souls will come back and be able to find their body.

this is also why many of the egyptian statues of kings are seen with a left foot forward, . this is so that they would have an after-life.

This pyramid is built by the king from the 3rd dynasty. his tomb was 25m below the pyramid. the tombs of his queens were built below it.
*note: this is not king Ramses II k..*

and quality deteriorated after thart because they got smaller and smaller and lousier as other pyramids from the other dynasties were built...

above: the saqqara...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: other pyramids that were built after the saqqara. look at how the quality of the pyramids became.. after building a nice pyramid, the rest simply cant be bothered to build better ones..

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
above: compare the height of the pyramid to my height and u'll realise that the pyramids are really huge...

LUNCH TIME...

BBQ kebab lunch. It sounded SOOO GOOD... but guess what?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

its only so-so. not up to my expectations at all, considering that my expectations have dropped by so much over the years. i suddenly yearn for singapore food.

Lamb and chicken BBQ. i cant eat lamb so i was only left with chicken.

the service SUCKS terribly at that restaurant. such a disgrace to the egyptians.

becuase i could not have lamb, i asjked the waiter for more chicken and guess whats his rxn?

he gave a "tsk!" and said "no."

what the hell!! isnt the customer always RIGHT!
no one should patronise that restauran anymore!!!!
you think i choose that restaurant to eat? you think i want to eat your dirty and lousy food?! no way. i was not given a choice k. it was the stuypid agency that chose that stupid place to eat.

i hate that place.

finally, finished lunch at ard 4pm. we had a late lunch because dinner was to be served on a train later at 9pm.

why on the train? coz we'll be taking an overnight train!! cool eh?!

on this trip, i get to... sit aeroplane, ride camels, ride the Felucca (which is like a sail) , be on board a cruise along the Nile, sit horse carriage.

the only attraction there i did not get to enjoiy was the Hot air balloon.

but its ok. i think i sat the hot air balloon before.
or did i??

or was that in my dreams?
oh no.. suddenly, i have difficulty from differentiating reality from dreams. wake up mei qin!!

after lunch we wnet for a short while to the famous bazaar where we only had 1 hr to shop. so.. wth la.. din buy much tings.
i bought a cat statue worth L.E 30.
2 ear-rings
1 head thingie.. -- not sure how to describe. its a part of the egyptian costume.
1 box of 10 perfume bottles. those really cute and miniature ones.

OVERNIGHT TRAIN ( travelling from Cairo to Aswan. )

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

when i first boarded the train, it reminded me of Polar Express, esp the train steward.

It was an overnight train, with seats which can be pushed back to be converted into two beds, one on top of the other. so i slept on the upper deck whuile my mum slept on the lower deck. dad had to share rooms with another father of another family.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
above: the seats in the train carraige. there were cabins in the carriage for privacy.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: after the beds are done..

i must say that the steward was really nice. Our powerpoint in the train was not strong enough to work the kettle and he agreed to help us plug the kettle in the powerpoint in his office. nice right? he was even willing to make instant noodles for us when the food in the train was not tsuitable to our taste-buds.

DAY 4

Woke up early in the monring to have breakfast before we set off for our bus trip back to Cairo. After breakfast there was still time. so we went to the meditteranian beach shore near sheraton hotel to see see look look....

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: look at that!! got cat footprints!! OMG soooo cute!!! if i had got the time, i would have trailed the footprints all the way..!! hehe

after the bus trip, we were supposed to have a free day off..
but guess what??
the tour leaders did not tell us..
and guess what they did????

they brought us to a perfume selling place called the perfume palace..

and... a cotton shop..

why???
the reason is simple...

becuase they can earn COMMISSION....

how sneaky of them!!!

even the local guide is not good.

she was more of a tourist than anything else. not even of any help...
sooo.. dun go for that agency. last time i went korean also like tt....

now go egypt.. same thing also.

haish.. lousy la.

but anyway, i still bought stuff from the perfume palace. bought the essence of Escada perfume which cost US$30. u know, the perfumes sold are 90%alcohol and like 1 % essence, with other percentages of chemicals?

yeah... so if i buy just the pure essence, just one drop is enough man....!!! woohoo!!

anyway, Escada rocks...the scent is like woooooooaaaaahhhhhh.. i lurrrvvve it!!!!

nvm la.. we were rather pissed. but we demanded that they brought us to the famous bazaar in Cairo. sumting galili bazaar. forgot the name alr.. so anyway, this is how a shop in the bazaar looks like. these shops are similar in all parts of egypt..

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

anyway, look at the photo below. this is a tree in a hotel where i stayed in.. looks pretty cool eh?

camel ride from day 2.. cute camel. looks just like me in my student pass.

DAY 3

Rise and Shine..
on a 3 and a half hour bus ride from Cairo to Alexandria.

They said Alexandria was cold coz its next to the meditteranian sea.

but its okie la. the wearther is great. winter. my fav season.

morning... went to see the Zoo in the hotel before i left for the 3 n a half hour bus trip.

its just a little zoo specially for in house guests only coz the hotel is something more of a resort. so yeah.. its for entertainment. and when i went there, there was this guy who gave me bread to feed the animals. the animals seem to eat anything including bread. making me very shocked. coz.. i truely wonder.. if the animals are fed at all at normal times.. hmmm. poor ting if they were not.

and yes, that guy who gave me the bread was one of the hotel workers and yes.. he expected a TIP.

so my dad gave him like one pound.

hehe..pictures of the zoo

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

so....

upon reaching Alexandria..... its as crowded as Cairo...

traffic condition is just as bad.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

for those who have learnt high way code... haha... there is a flashing amber sign rite??

i have nv seen it in sg.

flashing amber means ----- spoilt traiffic light btw.

and.. in egypt.. i see it ALL THE TIME.

so...
first stop.. Pompeii's pillar.. not bombay pillar.

a pillar built by the Alexandria ppl last time to thank the ruler who had heloped them out of poverty.
the pillar was built above the temple and from the foto, u will think that i m stepping onm the temple. which, i really am, because the temple was flooded and thus submerged under water due to constant flooding from the mediitteranian sea.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
see the massive size of this pillar....

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above photo is one of a library in the temple, whcih, just like the temple, was submerged under the water. it is the world's first and oldest library. as you can see from the walls, it looks somewhat like corals... this is due to the prolong submerging of the walls in seawtwer due to flood. we could also see salt crystals formed.

more pics of the temple and the library ... where water , obviously, had been removed alr.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

next stop was to the Catacomb Tomb. the tomb of a goddess called goddess Athenus. (not sure of the spelling of her name).

she worshipped horses and thus, buried 300 over horses together with her when she died. but of course she is not so evil as to bury them alive. it just means that, after her death, horses that were under her control and died were buried together with her.

next up... meditteranian sea!! my favourite sea!!! after visiting it, you will never like, striats of malacca, pacific ocean , south china sea or even altantic ocean. coz meditteranian sea roxks totally!!!

above: a photo of a kitten. great pic right? the kittenw as very figety and it was at the right moment when i took the foto.. i lurrvve this fot.. and the kitty in it too!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: more cats!!! i think they are fed by fishermen who fish along the shores of the meditteranian.

i love the sea........ great breeze.. great ppl.. great CATS...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

She sells seashells on the seashore...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
are you drooling?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

look at my plate.. two BIG fishes.... r u drooling again?

the cats there are just as beautiful...

anyway, after visit of the sea.. we had meditteranian LUNCH... which was totally awesome because there was like 2 big fishes and calamari and fred rice. i totally dig it...

u're certainly love it too.. however... they cannot win soon hock my dearest. too bad... soon hock still win them.. HANDS DOWN.

anyway, one thing abt fish in the sea and in the nile. they're doiff. those in the nile have much more bones than in the sea. not very nice to eat. soi .. wanna eat, must eat sea fish. dun eat nile fish.

after thjat, we proceeded to a castle to take some fotos...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

outside the castle.. cannot go in ..

night time alr... went to Sheraton Montazah to stay. we were at first given a roomm with a crap view. with tos of houss filled with rubbish.. i really mean rubbish. or we can call them litter.

so we switched to a seaview room !!!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

and finally seaview....

hotel sweet hotel.

*disclaimer: purely for memory purposes.*

EGYPT TRIP
-went to egypt coz it was an exotic destination. never been there before. a fresh place instead of the usual aussie and other asian countries. the middle east is really a different place, with a totally different culture.

DAY 1

woke up at 3plus am to make my way to changi airport for a 7h flight to Doha, Qatar for another tranisiting flight to go to Cairo, Egypt.

and no, it was not singapore airlines. (whicyh further added to the agony of a long length of 7hrs)
i must say, the tour agency was not up to standard at all.
cannot mention the name la.. if not might kana sued. hehe.

so anyway, took Qatar airways.

No personal TV... (sobx..) only a central one. playing a lousy movie. In the end, i curled up in my chair reading up "basic driving theory" and " adult only joke book ."

doha airport.....

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: great pic with aeroplane flying in mid-air!

things started to look up during the flight from doha to cairo.
there was personal TV and so we could select any show we wanted to watch! (YEah!!!!!)

and so i watched.... sky high... and big fish

FINALLY.. after 2 boring flights, i touched down onto Cairo, Egypt. By the time everything was finalised (esp after some ppl went to baggage claim due to the loss of a wheel.. -.-"") , everything was delayed and as a result, we did not have time to make it to the Egyptian Museum which was scheduled on that day.

Cairo consisted of... the rich class, middle class and the poor class.
the poor class stayed in the city of the dead. which is somewhat like a place wjhere they build their homes over the tombs of unattended cemetries.

We went straight for dinner.
at a restaurant called... La Cuisine.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: dearie! c the pic! c the dessert in the centre! its the very nice tingie that we ate the other time! hehe...

they taught us arabic too!!!!

thank you---pronouced as "shock-run"

No---- as "lak"

finally.. back to hotel.. intercontinental pyramids park hotel. according to the hotel, its 5 star. dunnu really 5 star international or cairo standards. hahha

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
above: hotel room

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: me hanging outside the balcony

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: breakfast the next morning!

anyway, the hotel was real cool coz it had so many channels.. including cable. i dun even have cable at home lor!!!

DAY 2

The middle class families lived in flates. (just like in singapore.. however, in must worse conditions than us. )

their flats were not painted coz u would have to pay tax if you painted the houses. also, many of the flats are not completed. this means that if the flat was originally meant to be 5 stories. they build it up to only 4 stories. that is why in ciaro, many of the flats are seen with steel bars sticking out into the sky, denoting the unfinished buildings.

this is because, in cairo, as long as the building is not complete, they do not have to pay tax. and this is how the middle income families(most of which working in tourism industries) avoid tax paying.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: see the flat on the right side of the picture? the steel bars are still present. unfnished buildings.

first stop.

the ANCIENT EGYPTIAN MUSEUM

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

above: exterior of the museum. pictures not allowed to be taken in the museum .

We went to see the famous boy king, King Tutankhamen or more famously known as king Tut treasures.

king tut was not famous during his time but only after his death. he ruled egypt when he was 9yrs old and died at a young age of 18 yrs old.

he was famous because he was the only king whose tomb was discovered intact, compete with treasures and everything.

we even saw his underwear, which, at that time, was a loin cloth. can you imagine that?! hehe.. so cool eh!!

then i saw this guy who looked like Thomas Ong. and i thought.. wow././ of all places i meet thomas ong in egypt?! cool!!!!

but in the end, it turned out that he was just an ugly version of thomas ong.

we also paid L.E (egyptian pounds.) 70 to go into the Royall Mummies Hall where i saw the mummies of several kings and also of some cats.

the mummies where all balck and hard, with ewverything intact, including their hair.

second stop, pyramids of Giza. one belnging to the lkind, then his son and then his grandson. (all kings.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

before visiting any of the pyramids, we dined at a restaurant serving egypian buffet right next to the Giza Pyramids.

sounds cool?

but not really. coz the place was really very dusty and sandy.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

however, only one of the pyramids have a smooth surface, somewhat decorated like Fugi mountain. The smooth surface is made up of marble.
this is the only pyramid which was covered with marble.

originally, the pyramid was fully covered with marble with all its surfaces smooth. however, right now presently, only the top part is smooth because the rest of the marble was taken by a ruler in egypt (later times) who took the marble to build his mosque!! the name of the mosque is the Muhammed Ali mosque.

We also went into one of the pyramids. thanks to my size, it was not at all tough clibing underground. i had great fun! ventilation was not very good but if ure relaxed, nothing's the problem! my parents were very protective and were afraid my asthma would recur. but yeah.. think too much le. haven had asthma since primary school.

we then went closer to the Sphinx. the sphinx is a lion figure twith a humanb head. the sphinx serves to protect the pyramids which have the kings' bodies and treasures in it.
in the Giza pyramids, the kings there are those of the old dynasty . those in the new dynasty did not builkd pyramids anymore because it would be easily discovered by the robbers and thieves , who would then steal their treasures.
thus, they build the tombs of the kings of the new dynasty underground at a place called the valley of the kings, which is located at Luxor, another part of egypt.

i took photo with the Sphinx!!! i even KISSED the sphinx. thanks to my own great idea@!!! but the mouth never touch yet!! the rest would be up to your imagination!!!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

after the Sphinx, we took a camel ride. again, my paranoid mum insisted that i mjust take the camel with her , in case something happen. but actually,i enjoyed the camel ride very much and it was not scary at all. as long as you shook your body along with it. its really fun!!!!!! everyone should sit a camel!!!!!!

finally, chinese food for dinner. my dad and mum were elated. but, the food was not that increidble. i bet its an egyptian cook.

** in egypt... tipping is required EVERWHERE. evem in TOILETS.. thats why i hate going to toilets at public places coz we havre to give them tips. abt.. 1 pound (which is 33cents sgd.)**
