Oh What A Night!...

...there I go with song lyrics again!

Last night was my Artist Reception/Opening for the Swell Sister's at The Coffee Garden in Sacramento. I had so much fun. There wasn't as many people at this show as in the past but lots of friends & family were there to support us all. It was a wonderful evening and we sold enough for a good donation to give to the Women's Wisdom Project. Coming home the fog was so bad it was like driving in pea soup. Spooky. Silly as it may sound it makes me think about vampires. No I haven't watched Twilight or any in the series and won't watch them even though some people tell me it's not scary. right. Thank you Sister & Stephen King.

"Disguised"

This piece is on paper. I won't be selling the original, but may sell prints. This one I plan to frame and keep. I have thought of putting it up for sale several times but haven't been able to part with it. I played with layers and layers of color on this one. Scraping, dabbing, rubbing, I was totally absorbed in it. In a strange way I almost feel as though it's a self portrait.

I can't help it. I'm a hopeless romantic. I even cry when watching a sitcom wedding, such as Erkle's. hahaha Don't tell, but my hubby may not cry as much as me but he is definitely verklempt sometimes! We're saps. I'm ok with that. So I can't help but to be so happy for Prince William and Kate Middleton. I remember staying up into the wee hours of the morning to watch his Prince Charles & Diana get married. I think Kate is just lovely. I love hats and admire her for proudly & boldly wearing the most intriguing head pieces. I love it! I can't wait to see the gown she chooses. They both look so happy. I must admit that I was a little shocked when I found out that they had been living together. I avoid the tabloids in the grocery isle so I didn't know. I know in this day & age living together without being married is not shocking in itself, just didn't think that the "Royals" would approve of it. Times have changed!
A Big Shout Out & Thank You goes to Kubercove, Trigo and MathesonGemWorks for including my art in their wonderful Etsy Treasuries!

I'm Off...

to take 3 paintings to hang at The Coffee Garden Gallery in Sacramento today for the 2nd Annual Swell Sister show is next Saturday. I had to take these pictures with my camera so sorry they aren't very good. Just wanted to give you a sneak peek. Also a picture of the magazine trees I made. Thank you Martha. I love folding paper! I was an oragami geek when I was little. They are covered in big fat silver glitter which doesn't show up well, again phone picture. If you know me you know what a thing I have for magazines (and jars) so magazine trees instead of throwing them out is partly me hanging on to them just a little longer! haha These are lots of fun to do and the directions can be found here . Hopefully my computer will be fixed soon or I'll have a brand new one.

Color Color Color!

Oh I wish I could show you a picture! Hopefully I get the disk that I need to fix my computer today. If that doesn't fix it I'll have to ask Santa for a new one. I am working on my pieces for the gallery show next month. I have to get them finished in the next few days before Thanksgiving. The piece (angel) that I am working on started out to be creamy white & beiges, elegant, but that didn't last long! Now it's eye popping, fun & in living color! I've always been mesmerized by color. When I was little I used to love the NBC peacock. Ding dong ding - that tail of color would spread & I would think it was so beautiful! haha Actually watching a color tv was cool, ok, enough, I'm dating myself! Oh & opening a new box of 64 Crayola crayons...like crack! The theme of the gallery show is "Gifts". I am doing 3 12 x 12 angels. One with a bird - gifts from the sky, another with seashells & pearls - gifts from the sea & the other with flowers & maybe fruit - gifts from the land. I have really been drawing a blank for this show which is why I have gotten such a late start. For some inspiration & a kick in the pants, I went to an "Artsy Fartsy" get together with my Swell Sisters on Saturday. Everyone took their pieces & paints, I took a pad of paper & pencil. They talked me into painting though. Everyone shared. A canvas, brushes & metallic Folk Art paints. I painted an angel with metallic paints & I have to say I really liked how it turned out. I didn't bring her home, I gave her to the Sister that shared her canvas. She was excited to have her, although it needed about 3 more coats of paint. I plan to buy some metallics to play with...after Christmas.

What A Weekend!

Having a busy & fun weekend! Yesterday I made pickles & pickled peppers. Then I was off to the gallery opening. My son & a friend of mine went with me. After a few hours at the opening I dared to drive downtown to the Alley Arts to see my Swell Sisters. I had great luck in finding a parking spot & didn't hit any pedestrians or bicyclist! haha Downtown Sacramento is so alive on 2nd Saturday. The streets are full of people, music & art. Just one big party. Wish I could have spent more time down there. The gallery opening was awesome. They put out big sketch pads & crayons. I did a couple of angels in crayon which was pretty fun and I had a little crowd watching at one point. Great music too. Marco Fuoco is the gallery owner/artist but also a very talented sax player. So much fun!

Today the guys & I walked up to the car show they were having here at the park. It was over a mile one way & we spend an hour or so walking around. They had some awesome cars and it was a fun getting out, walking, spending time with the guys & looking at awesome cars. It's a beautiful day. Here's a few shots I took at the show, a few I played around with... you know me & color!
