Thursday Inspiration: Taylor Sijan

It's been a while since I've done a Thursday Inspiration post! Ever since Mr. Business Guy gave me hell for spending so much working time on things that don't actually make any money, to be exact. He's not wrong - my business has definitely made more money since taking his advice - but he is kind of a killjoy. Anyway, I have a new clay crush: Taylor Sijan. This work checks all the boxes for me:

✅Sliptrailed

✅More-is-more

✅Wonk embraced

You can see lots more at @taylorsijan on Instagram. If you want to follow me on Insta, you can find me @lorikwatts.

Thursday Inspiration: Noelle Hoover

I haven't done a Thursday Inspiration for a while, on the advice of Mr. Business Guy, who pointed out how much time I was spending on business activities that do not, in fact, generate any income, while neglecting others that would. I couldn't resist this one, though - Noelle Hoover, a potter I discovered via Pinterest in a show at AKAR that is all handmade butter dishes.
I gotta say, these butter dishes are WAY underpriced, IMHO. $60! And the gallery takes half, so $30 for all that work. Now, they are slip cast, so the cost on labor is amortized over many pieces - but she still had to do the finish work on the castings, assemble, glaze, and fire these pieces.
Unsurprisingly, they all sold out of that show.
Here are a few more works:

Thursday Inspiration: Rena Hamilton

This work shares some qualities with my own: the decorated surfaces, the soda vapor softening the patterns. You can see lots more of Rena's work here.

Thursday Inspiration: Kenyon Hansen

Here's the link to Kenyon's website; I know there are images there because people are pinning to Pinterest boards from there, but no images show up when I click. Maybe you'll have beter luck. In any case, I think the the work is amazing and wanted to share!

Thursday Inspiration: David Bolton

I am enamored of patterns, as you may know, and especially partially-decomposed patterns, in which the flame has a say in the final outcome. I also appreciate the work on the bottoms of the pots - I am always telling student that "use" includes not just serving and eating, but washing up and putting away. I think it's nice to add a little something for the person who does those things.
If David has a website, I couldn't find it; but his work is available for sale at Schaller Gallery and at Crimson Laurel.

Thursday Inspiration: Bob and Cheryl Husby

The Husbys have been an inspiration to me for many years. Sometimes I still look and think, I'll never make anything as amazing as that, ever, so why even try? but I can't help myself, they make me want to make amazing things so badly, so I toddle off to the studio and make. Sometimes that's how inspiration feels, for me.
The Husbys don't seem to have a website, or at least I didn't find it; I guess there are still a few potter who don't. If you are interested in buying their work, you can do that at this link.
