A Freebie

Have you been having tech difficulties? Because I'm having them big-time! One device after another is giving me fits. Because of that, I won't be posting anything very long today.

What I wanted to pass along is that my publisher is offering a free book. Not mine, but another author's. It's called Still Life in a Red Dress, and the reason I mention it is because I really liked the story. If you like mainstream fiction with an element of the historic, a love story backdrop, a hint of war, and really great characterization, you might want to read this. Besides that, if you read it and like it, there's a link in the e-book you can go to sign up for the publisher's readers' group to get another free book by the same author, Dennis Jung.

This other book, The Morning of the World, is a little different. It's kind of scary, actually. It's about a married couple dealing with the loss of their child, about which there are unanswered questions. I'm only into it a little bit, and I don't want to put it down, until it gets a little creepy again, and then I put it down. And hide. lol What I like about these books is that he sets them in these interesting or exotic locations, like Bali and Nicaragua, and he really makes the setting come alive. Setting is one of the elements of fiction I really have to work at, so reading someone else do so well with it is a real treat.

That's all for today. I'm off to trouble-shoot my stereo...and my phone...and my printer...and my Internet connect...

Woo hoo.

Happy Reading,
Cameo

Q: Please tell us about your latest release, In Deep Shitake
Overview Take one devastatingly handsome movie star. Add in one outrageously sexy female private eye with a penchant for food-word obscenities. Mix in a dose of mistaken identity and a handful of Russian mobsters. And they're all In Deep Shitake.

Q: Do you have a review you could share with us?

A: "Once you pick up this great story, you won’t be able to put it down." - Lois Lavrisa, Amazon Kindle Top 100 Author

Q: This sounds fantastic! I also noticed this book has 15 five star reviews at Amazon! Wow congratulations! What inspired this story?
A: Ha ha. I laugh now, but the inspiration came from a particularly embarrassing incident. A few years ago, I was traveling a long distance by car with my two dogs and was trapped in a sudden white out. My car spun 360 degrees on the highway and came to rest off the road in the midst of a snow bank. I was towed out and got back on the road, but by the time I got home a few hours later, the doors of the car were frozen and I couldn't get them open. I was able to roll my window down to about the half-way point. From there, I climbed out, squeezing through the narrow opening. Since I was dressed for comfort in a skirt with slouchy socks and clogs, by the time I got halfway out the window, the socks and shoes had come off and my skirt was about up to my waist. My skirt snagged on something and I was stuck for a few minutes trying to work it free. All the while, I was praying that my neighbors didn't have a video camera or, if they did that it was broken, or....you get the idea. I used this incident, in a fictionalized way, in my new romantic suspense, IN DEEP SHITAKE. My heroine is trying to break INTO the car instead of out when she becomes stuck in a humiliating position.
Q: Oh no! LOL I would hate to be caught in that situation. How did your story’s setting impact your plot or characters?
A: My story is set in Savannah, Georgia, which is a weird and wonderful city. It's my home and I love it here. Savannah is so rich in texture and character that the setting is almost a character all on its own.
Q: I love Savannah! Why did you choose your setting and why was it perfect for your book?
A: The hero of the story is an actor who is extremely famous for one role he played about ten years before the story opens. Savannah is a city where many films and television shows are filmed. So Savannah was a perfect setting for the story not only because of it's great quirkiness but also because it's a plausible place for my hero to be making a comeback film. Savannah also comes into play in that hosts an annual St. Patrick's Day celebration that is one of the biggest in the U.S. The parade becomes a big part of the final part of the story.
Q: Did you choose the title of your book and if so how did you do it?
A:  I did choose the title. It comes from the fact that the main character, Imogene "Mo" uses food words as substitutes for obscenities. Hence the use of shitake mushroom. I though long and hard about the spelling and decided since one i in shitake is an acceptable variant, I would go with it because it is after all supposed to be her substitute for the more crass word.
Q: Please tell us about your favorite character in the book.

A: I love all the characters but my favorite has to be the cat since he is modeled on one of my babies. The cat's cameo was really fun to write and I love what the cover designer did in integrating the cat into the cover art. That cover cat looks so much like my kitty I can't help but smile when I see it.

Q: Please tell us about your other books.

A:  Imogene "Mo", the sexy In Deep Shitake private eye has a short story in the thriller anthology: Bullets, Brass and Babes. The story is called It Keeps Getting Shitakier and follows Mo's efforts to catch a suspected insurance fraud.

In Deep Shitake and Bullets Brass and Babes are FREE (along with dozens of other ebooks) May 7-9th as part of the Spring Fling Free Par-Tay. Romances (sweet to hot), thrillers, mysteries and more by award-winning and best-selling authors are all free at amazon.com. Q: Wow! Readers are definitely going to partay and celebrate such a wonderful giveaway! :) What’s next for you?

A: I am writing a book called Cemetery Tree, which I hope to release in July. Cemetery Tree is a paranormal with more of a horror bent, but it also has romance.

Thanks so much Patricia, for being our guest today! And thanks also for the wonderful free books!

Last Chance to get Flaunt It for FREE

Flaunt It, #1 in the Paolo's Playhouse series is still free at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Sony until March 28th.So if you'd like to try a sexy emotional short read, now's the time. I've posted an excerpt to tempt you and couldn't resist posting the beautiful covers for all 4 playhouse stories.

Excerpt:

He didn’t say anything to Piper about the Playhouse until their relief arrived. She climbed up on a barstool with a curious grin on her bright pink lips. Her lip color matched the wide pink stripe of hair at her temple, a bright contrast to the rest of her short, spiky, platinum blonde hair.

“I didn’t know Chuck and Tanya were working tonight.” She grabbed a couple of swizzle sticks and drummed them on the bar. “I thought we were working late. What’s going on?”

“Last minute plans,” he said smoothly. “Hope that’s okay.”

“Sure. Spontaneous is cool.” She tossed the sticks and leaned closer. She smelled like sunshine, even after dancing and working the floor for hours. “Can you tell me about it or is a big secret?”

He took a deep breath. “Remember my friend, Paolo? I’ve told you about him.”

“Yeah, I remember. The guy who has the sex place, right?”

“Right. We’re going there tonight.”

Her eyes widened. “Is it like one of those dungeons I’ve heard about?”

He couldn’t tell if she hoped it was, or not. “No. There aren’t any public rooms at the Playhouse. Just private playrooms for private fantasies.”

“That’s right. I remember. There are different rooms for different fantasies, right?”

He eyed her cautiously. “Yeah.”

Her whole face lit up. “Ooh, I’m excited. Which one?” Nothing seemed to faze her and for some reason it irritated him. Probably because everything she did fazed him.
“Are you sure you’re not too tired?”

“No! I’m fine, Ben. Which room?”

No way was he telling her now. “You’ll see.”

“Wait.” She grabbed onto the front of his shirt, pulled him forward and kissed him, hard and fast. She tasted like peppermint. “You’re not going to tell me?” She was too damn cute when she pouted.

“It’s a surprise, all right?” He didn’t want to give her time to worry about the reasons he picked the room he did.

“But how can I get ready for the fantasy? What if I need…I don’t know…ropes or something?”

“Do you want ropes?” he snapped. She released his shirt abruptly and he took a step away. “Want me to tie you up? Or maybe you want to tie me up?” Jake and everyone else within hearing distance were taking in every word.

She frowned. He didn’t blame her. “No, not really. I’m just sayin’.”

He didn’t know why he was being such a jerk. Maybe guilt did that to a guy. He softened his tone. “You let me worry about that, babe. Besides, everything we need will already be there.”

Her eyes had lost some of their spark but her bright smile almost made up for it. “Okay. What should I wear?”

He shrugged. “What you have on is fine.”

From the horrified look on her face, you’d think he’d told her to wear a paper bag.

“No. These are work clothes.”

He reached across the bar and hooked his finger in the deep V of her top. Then he pulled her forward this time and kissed the tip of her turned-up nose. The patrons loved their give and take across the bar, but this time wasn’t for their benefit. “It doesn’t matter what you wear, Piper.” If he had his way, she’d be naked before long.

“Maybe not to you, but it does to me. How much time do I have?”

“Not long. I thought we could just leave from here.”

“Not in my work clothes, Ben. Not without a shower.” She hopped off the bar stool and waved to Chuck who was taking over as bartender. Piper met Ben at the end of the bar and she leaned into him, kissing him hard, the way he liked it. Her breasts pressed into his chest. ... “Pick me up in half an hour. I’ll be ready. Promise.”

Ben watched her bounce out the door. That was Piper, up for anything. Except commitment. Would tonight get that exhibitionist streak out of her system? Or would he have to resign himself to the fact that she lived for showing off for everybody?

That he wasn’t special at all.

Pass the word! Enjoy :)

Flaunt It is FREE until March 28th!

I'm so excited that Flaunt It was chosen by Samhain to be part of their Giveaway program! Until March 28th, the first story in my Paolo's Playhouse series is free to download from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Sony! If you haven't checked out this short sexy read yet, this would be the perfect time.

He’ll put her on display, if that’s what it takes to keep her…
Paolo’s Playhouse, Book 1

When it comes to sexy and sassy, Piper, the most popular waitress at Ben’s bar, has it all going on. Now that they’re dating, though, Ben wishes she’d dial down the skimpy clothes and flirty attitude, and her habit of dancing around the bar and flashing to her favorite song. Every teasing peek at her body, every laugh at some customer’s lousy joke, is certainly good for business—but it sends his jealousy meter into the red zone.

Sure, they’re dating, but he’s no muscled, tattooed stud with diamonds in his ears. How can he compete, especially when she refuses to even spend the night at his place?

Desperate, Ben books a room at his friend Paolo’s fantasy club, hoping an erotic night in front of a two-way mirror will get her exhibitionist streak out of her system. Praying it won’t prove his greatest fear—that she lives only to show off. And he’s not that special to her at all…

Demon is a Red Hot

Here's my free Valentine's Day read. Now I know Valentine's Day has just passed, but it wasn't my turn to blog on that day. Besides, I think we can celebrate romance any day, right? If you want to see how a Demon celebrates the day, read on.

"Cupid shot me."

Angel thought she heard the words as she roused out of sleep in her New York City penthouse. But it was the long groan of the big man lying next to her in bed that really woke her.

"Demon?" She raised herself on her elbow to peer down at the unexpected sight. "What are you doing here?"

"It's a holiday, isn't it?" Demon's black gaze moved from her face to her breasts. "Happy Valentine's Day."

She laughed. "This is not your kind of holiday."
He groaned again. "No kidding. But Cupid ambushed me."

He reached a hand toward her breast, then dropped it like she was on fire. "No," he said, "I have to be on my best behavior."

"Your best behavior is not very good." She smiled. "With one exception."

"Damn. Don't look at me like that."

"Why not?" From long experience, she knew he loved the tilted head, look-up-through-the-eyelashes-glance.

"Like I told you, Cupid ambushed me. She dropped me here with instructions to treat you right."

"Treat me right?"

"She said there's more to pleasing an angel than giving her great sex."

"Hmmm. Cupid did not ask for my opinion on this theory." Angel pushed back the sheet. Yup. He was naked. Gloriously naked. His broad shoulders tapered down to hips that performed with all the strength and stamina an angel could want. And she could plainly see that Demon was ready to perform.

Halloween Free Read

In honor of Halloween, I'm offering a free read. I hope you enjoy it!

Demon and the Angel

The demon stepped into the dimly lit neonatal intensive care unit. “Good evening, Angel,” he said softly.

The angel looked up from where she was bent over a stainless steel barred crib. “What brings you here, Demon? This is no place for one of your kind.”

“I saw you fly in, Angel. My…appetite was whetted.”

“Take yourself and your appetites elsewhere. I’m busy.”

“The place is deserted.” He glanced around. Emptiness pooled in the corners of the room, reaching its sly fingers towards the one occupied crib. Soft lights haloed the angel and a very still, tightly swaddled baby. The blue and white cap on the baby’s head advertised his sex. The snaking tubes and softly beeping machines signaled his trouble.

“The obstetrical unit of this hospital is closing due to high malpractice rates.” The angel turned back to her task, leaning over the crib again. “This is the last baby born here.”

Demon almost missed her words, focused as he was on her shapely ass outlined by the pale gray uniform that blended so well with the gray hospital walls. Real nurses never wore dresses any more, but her glamour provided both an effective disguise, and an irresistible lure. This angel knew exactly what she was doing.

“That nurse glamour is oddly sexy, dear Angel.”

“Yes,” she snapped, turning back to glare at him. “We angels know how you demons like to get your purity fix every so often.”

He laughed. “Too true, sweetheart. It does cleanse the palate, so to speak.” He let his gaze wander over her, knowing his bold perusal would start a fire simmering within her. “And we demons,” he drawled, “know you angels need some lovin’ from a bad guy every so often to light you up.”

He checked out her shiny brown hair, her wide-spaced gray eyes, her smallish, but determined nose, and her generous mouth. Cute. Adorably cute. He had to have her.

“Hush, Demon.” She turned away from him. “Your voice is too deep. It disturbs the baby.”

He moved to the other side of the crib so he could face her. Now he could savor the sight of her pert breasts, her narrow waist and gently flaring hips. Utterly delectable. His cock ached.

He nodded at the crib. “How much longer ‘til you’re done with the baby?”

“Must you sound so uncaring?”

“I’m a demon, darling. It’s not my job to care.” He grinned at her anger. It would only stoke her appetite.

“I’m not interested in whatever you might be offering tonight.” Her gray eyes snapped at him, told him to go, but her pointy nipples signaled him as effectively as the beeping machines.

“I think you lie, Angel.” Finish the story here.
