Great Review for Choose Me

It's always great when an author knows she's found her readers. Especially when writing to a niche market like mature romances. My Silver Fox Romances are at their core small town romances. The heroes are sexy firefighters and contractors - and over 40. And while I hear from many readers that they are looking for romances with older characters, it's hard to get the message out to those readers. But I have faith that it will happen and part of that is visibility. And reviews.

Reviews are slowly coming in, and this one for Choose Me from Scandalicious Book Review made my day because I knew I'd found the readership I'm writing for. The review says in part:

"...Choose Me is silver fox romance at its best. We have easily relatable couples that are mature enough to see past the distractions and insecurities. They are mature enough to talk and more importantly, listen to each other even when they both fuck up. Experience like that is hard earned and much appreciated. I strongly recommend you try this book/series. Natasha Moore has tapped into something that has sparked an ember in my reading fire and I can’t wait to see what else she gives us next. Rick has a herd of brothers, and friends around town and Eve’s girlfriends are a hoot, so plenty of future story potential can be found in the secondary characters. In fact, Rescue Me is out now…I’ll be reading that one next!"

You can read the review in full here.

If you'd like to read romances with mature characters, give Choose Me a try. And if you like it, recommend it to your friends, because I think word of mouth is the strongest way to reach potential readers. And to find the readers who are looking for the books we write.

Rescue Me!

Today is the release day for the second book in my Silver Fox Romance series! Rescue Me is the story of a fireman's widow whose attempt at being wild and spontaneous backfires, and her husband's best friend, another fireman who has resisted his attraction to his best friend's wife for years. They get thrown together in a snowstorm and forced to face their feelings for each other.

I love writing about older characters, men and women with life experiences and histories that give them layers and create conflict. I hope you'll want to read about Bonnie and Joe's second chance at love.

The first review is in and calls it "...a wonderful story about second chances..."

After years of playing it safe, Bonnie Petrowski’s first attempt at being wild and spontaneous leaves her spinning off the road during a blinding snowstorm. The sassy widow has few regrets, but never owning up to her feelings for her late husband’s best friend is one of them. And now it might be too late.
Firefighter Joe Waterman isn’t going to let a little thing like a blizzard stop him from getting the hell away from his big empty house. He doesn’t get far, however, before discovering a small car buried in the snow. When he recognizes his friend’s widow inside, his unwanted attraction to her still blazes hot enough to melt the snow piling up around them. After he rescues her, not only do the sparks continue to zap between them - Bonnie wants to talk about their feelings for each other.

Joe made a promise years ago and he’s bound to keep it. Even if it means he and Bonnie can never have a chance at forever together.

One Week to Rescue Me - Pre-Order & Excerpt

The second book in the Silver Fox Romance series will release in one week! But if you don't want to have to mark your calendar, or sign-up for my mailing list for the reminder, don't worry. You can pre-order right now and it will appear on your favorite e-reader on November 14th! (Can you tell I love pre-order? I do it all the time.)

As I was planning the story for Rescue Me, I realized I set most of my books in the summertime, and I decided I needed a winter story, after all, I've lived with snowy & cold weather all my life. In western New York, where the Silver Fox Romances are set, summer weather lasts a much shorter time than winter. It was fun adding all those realistic winter details into the story

Excerpt:
“Kick off your boots and hang your coat on the hook over there.” Joe didn’t know why his voice sounded strangled.
He froze as he watched Bonnie shed the snowy coat and boots, then step out of the wet, heavy sweatpants. He nearly choked when she turned to him and he got the full impact of the woman he hadn’t seen in the past two years.
She’d always been curvy, with hips that flared out just the way he liked it. But right now that purple dress clung to her curves in a way that was almost sinful. The V neckline showed off her mouthwatering cleavage. And her bare feet…somehow seeing her toes with their pale pink polish made a low growl slip from his lips.
“Did you say something?”
“No.” He turned and hung up his coat, then kicked his boots clear across the mudroom. “Where did you go dressed up all fancy like that?”
Her eyes widened, then narrowed. “Out to dinner.”
He scoffed. “You drove all that way for a date?”
She stepped over the clumps of snow, stomped past him into the kitchen, then whirled around. “I didn’t say it was a date.”
“Dressed like that?” Joe followed her, stepped up close. He caught a faint scent of something flowery. She’d put on perfume for this guy.
Bonnie propped her hands on those luscious hips. “So what if I went on a date. What’s it to you?
She was magnificent when she was wound up. And she was right. It was none of his business. Except when he had to rescue her from her car. “He should have come to you if he wanted to see you. Not make you drive in this crappy weather.” If Joe knew who the jerk was, he’d—
“He didn’t make me,” she snapped. “He said he had an early morning, so I offered to make the drive. We didn’t know the weather was going to get bad. It was spur of the moment. It was romantic.”
Romantic? Nothing about the last couple of hours had been romantic. Something in her tone sounded defensive, made him think she wasn’t telling him everything. “So who is this guy?”
“You’re not my father, Joe. What’s with the interrogation?”
“I’m just concerned.”
When she rolled her eyes, he was reminded of the cute young woman she’d been when Frank first brought her around. Bright and sparkly with no shadows haunting her eyes. “Don’t worry about me. I’m doing fine.”
“Of course, you are.” The thought of Bonnie dressing up like that, all pretty and sexy, for some guy he didn’t know bugged the hell out of him. Joe knew being pissed that she’d never dressed up for him made no sense at all. He’d watched her run off to Erie because that was the way it had to be. But his screwed up emotions were no reason to treat her this way now.
“Thank you for getting me out of a ditch. I’m sorry I snapped at you, but I’m really tired and—”
“Sure. Follow me. The guest room has its own bathroom and you can use all the hot water you want.”
“A hot shower sounds wonderful.”
“I’ll grab some dry clothes and leave them on the bed, then put on a pot of decaf.”
“That’d be great.”
Joe watched her pad down the hall, then went into the master and rummaged around in his dresser for something for Bonnie to wear. He finally grabbed a T-shirt and another pair of sweatpants. He stepped into the guest room and heard the shower running behind the closed bathroom door.
As a firefighter, he was the kind of guy who ran into a burning building when everyone else was running out. But right now, knowing the woman he’d loved for years was naked behind that closed door, he ran away like the flames of hell were at his heels.

I thought I'd share another small excerpt from CHOOSE ME. It's a friends-to-lovers romance and that's one of my favorite tropes. Rick and Eve have known each other for over twenty-five years and when they are suddenly both single, things start to change...

Excerpt:
Eve couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that Rick had been naked while she’d been talking to him. Naked. Nude. Sans clothing. All that masculine skin with nothing covering it. She blew out a shaky breath.
She’d seen him in swim trunks often enough over the years. Both of their houses had pools, and since Amy and Heather had been joined at the hip for most of their lives, and Eve and Cathy had been friends, the two families had often been at one or the other’s houses.
But that was back when he’d been Cathy’s husband. When she’d been Don’s wife. Back then Eve had been able to appreciate a good looking man without coveting him or getting turned on. Those kinds of thoughts had never even crossed her mind.
But now…as she paced the scarred hardwood floor, Eve found herself getting all tingly at the thought of Rick having been naked while they shared words. And even more shivery knowing he was rushing over here as soon as he covered up that naked body.
What was wrong with her?
Crazy as it was, she dashed into the outdated bathroom to check her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was a mess. She shoved her fingers through the strands, trying to fluff them up a little. She’d left her purse, and the brush inside, down in her shop and she didn’t have time to run down and get it now. Her lipstick was down there too. She bit her lip. Her face looked so pale when she didn’t have lipstick on. At least she was still in the dress and heels she’d worn for work, so she felt as if she had at least some of her armor in place.
What was she getting so worked up about? This was Rick. She’d known him for years. He’d seen her hundreds of times. It wasn’t as if he was going to care what she looked like. He was coming to look at the apartment, not her. She should be getting her thoughts together on the work she’d like to have done, not primping in front of the mirror.
There was a knock at the door at the bottom of the stairs. “Eve?”
Rick.
Eve dashed to the stairs and then forced herself to slowly descend the steep steps. Her foolish heart was beating wildly. She seemed to have no control over it. She crossed the entryway and took a deep breath before she opened the door. “Hi. Thanks for coming right over.”
Rick was one of those guys who seemed to get better looking as he got older. While he’d been long and lanky, almost skinny, when he was younger, he filled out a pair of jeans and a T-shirt real well now. The silver at his temples and threading through the rest of his hair sparkled beneath the light. And the crinkles around his brown eyes when he smiled?
There were those tingles again.
Eve realized she was just standing there, blocking his entrance. She cleared her throat and hoped the heat she felt in her face didn’t stain her cheeks red. “Come on in.”
He had a clipboard in one hand and began his inspection as soon as she closed the door behind him. “This is a nice-sized foyer. Is there anything you want to update in here?”
Straight to business then. She frowned and looked around her. “I hadn’t thought about it.”
He pointed down with the corner of the clipboard. “The floor is worn and some corners of the tiles are coming up. It wouldn’t cost much to replace it with a durable vinyl that would withstand the rain and snow. A new coat of paint on the walls would brighten the space and you could get away with keeping that old ceiling fixture. It adds character but not a whole lot of light.”
Eve nodded slowly, looking at the space with new eyes. He was right. “I can see you know your stuff.”
The corner of his mouth quirked up. “Did you have any doubt?”
Her breath caught on a laugh. What was wrong with her? The first thought to pop into her head was, I’d like to see your stuff.
“Um, come on up. I think the stairs are safe and sturdy.”
“Lead the way.”
Rick followed her up the stairs and all she could think about was him staring at her ass. And that she liked the thought of him staring at her ass. It was as if she’d been dropped into an alternate universe.

I had such a good time writing Choose Me and the next book in the series, Rescue Me, which will be coming out in November. If you like small town romances, or friends to lovers romances, or firefighter heroes, or seeing women of a certain age get a second chance at happiness, I hope you'll try CHOOSE ME!

Choose Me - Love Happens at Any Age!

I've been talking for a while about my new series, Silver Fox Romances, and I'm excited to announce that today is Release Day! I've been having such a great time writing about characters who've had a little more experience with life. The series will have a combination of novels, novellas and short stories. With small town romances, the reader can be sure to run into a lot of familiar characters over the course of the series. Some characters' stories will need time to develop, some won't have quite as much baggage to work through. And some will have fun, quick stories that can get you to a happy ending during your lunch hour or before bed.

CHOOSE ME is a friends-to-lovers romance. I love those, don't you? Two people who have a history together, but not a romantic one. To see the relationship develop - sometimes against their wishes - is as fun to write as it is to read.

Blurb:

Eve Corcoran hates being a cliché, but after her husband leaves her for a younger woman, she’s surprised how much she enjoys being on her own. When the empty nester hires the contractor next door to renovate her new apartment, her surprising feelings for him threaten to turn her new life upside down.

After Rick Best lost his wife, he never expected to fall in love again, especially not with the mother of his daughter’s best friend. He’s gone on enough rescue calls with the volunteer fire department to know life can change forever in an instant, and he can’t understand why Eve resists grabbing a second chance at happiness.

Rick wants her to choose a life with him, but Eve is holding on tight to her newly-found independence. As she keeps pushing Rick away, however, being on her own starts to feel a whole lot like being lonely.

Excerpt:

His phone was ringing when he got out of the shower. He snagged a towel, dashed into the bedroom and grabbed the phone off the dresser.
His voice was breathless as he caught it in time. “Hello?”
“Rick? It’s Eve, did I catch you at a bad time?”
“No. Just got out of the shower and I’m dripping all over the floor.” His laugh cut off. Why did he tell her that? Did he want her to picture him naked? Did he want to think about her picturing him naked? Gah, he wished he’d never had that conversation with Heather.
“Sorry. Do you want to call me back when you’re…um…dry…um…dressed?” Thank goodness that was amusement he heard in Eve’s voice. Or was it embarrassment?
“No. Just give me a sec.” Rick dropped the phone to the mattress, dried off quickly and wrapped the towel around his waist. He shook his head at his actions. Like she could see him. What was wrong with him? “Okay, I’m back. What can I do for you?”
“You know my building on Main? Where my shop is?”
“Sure.” Two-story building with a brick facade. Good roof. Well-maintained from what he could see.
“I’d like to set up a time when you could come look at the apartment upstairs. It needs some work.”
“I heard your tenants took off.” Renters rarely treated property as well as homeowners did.
“Eloped,” she corrected. “Going to try their luck in L.A. but they didn’t do any damage.  I just want to make a few changes before I move in. Some upgrades to the kitchen and bath. Not too much work, I hope.”
“Wait a minute.” He must have heard her wrong. “You’re moving in? To the apartment?”
“Yes. Selling the house. Tess is bringing over the sign today, but she says she already has a couple of potential buyers so it might happen quickly.”
She sounded excited, but something about not seeing Eve next door made his chest feel suddenly hollow. “Wow. You never mentioned that last night.” And that was a stupid thing to say. “Sorry. I know you don’t have to tell me anything. I’m just…surprised.”
“Well, I only decided after I left your house last night.”
“I chased you away, huh? Don’t want to live next door to me anymore?” He hoped his voice sounded lighter than he felt.
“Don’t be silly. But the house is way too much for just me. It needs a family, you know?”
Yeah, he knew. He’d thought the same thing a few times about this place, but he wasn’t ready to leave behind the house where he and Cathy lived, where they’d raised Heather. He knew it had to have been a hard decision for Eve.
“So could you look at it and give me an estimate, or are you guys booked up a year in advance or something?”
“I can look at it. Are you free tonight?”
“Tonight? Sure. I’m still here at the apartment now.”
His chest felt lighter, fuller. “I’ll get dressed and be right over. Give me fifteen.”

Silver Fox Romances - Coming Soon

I've blogged before about ageism and the lack of characters above the age of forty in romance novels. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good romance with young, fresh characters discovering life and love together. But love happens at any age and it's just as wonderful, just as passionate, and even more complicated for men and women who have more life experiences to draw from, more family to interfere, more baggage to carry around. And I've been talking to many readers who aren't twenty-five any longer, in fact could be considered "of a certain age", and would like to read about characters they can relate to.

I'm happy to oblige. I'm really enjoying writing characters closer to my own age. I understand them better than characters who are younger than my children. And I'm even happier for them when they find a second chance at happiness. And besides, I have quite a soft spot for those sexy silver foxes. So that's why I named my series, Silver Fox Romance. My talented cover artist, Lacey Savage, designed a sassy logo - isn't it great?

So you can look for the logo on the upcoming books in the series which will begin releasing this fall. And OMG we're almost out of August, so you'll be able to enjoy them sooner rather than later! If you'd like to follow along with the news on the books, the characters, giveaways, and swag with the sexy Silver Fox logo, you can sign up for my mailing list.

I've also started a Facebook page. There's not much going on there at the moment, but I'll be posting info there soon, so click here to LIKE now.

The Silver Fox Romances are set in Best Bay, a fictional lakeside village in western NY. Most of the heroes are members of the Best Bay Volunteer Fire Department, guys who put their lives on the line and often dinner on hold to respond to emergencies in their community. With titles like Choose Me, Rescue Me, Trust Me they are sexy, emotional, character driven stories with humor and passion.

I hope you'll look forward to starting on the Silver Fox Romance journey with me!
