This Red Dawn TV Spot Is Making Remake Hate Difficult

I generally don't care for remakes of my faves from the 80's because, well...they strip all the 80's-ness out of them. But, I don't know...maybe it's just because the trailer and ads are pretty well done and feature lots of fun melodramatic acting and explosions - a combination I am overly fond of - or perhaps it's because I really like Chris Hemsworth and Jeffrey Dean Morgan...but I'm having trouble hating this.
But I'm still not sure the idea will work as well without the Cold War paranoia I grew up with.

Bleak Sleek Future...RoboCop Remake Costume Set Photos

First set photos from the RoboCop remake reveal an all too familiar - Iron Man-like, Batman-like - sleek armored design. It's always frustrating to see movie character design get stuck on the last successful style - it would have been cool to see something less cyber-smooth and more gritty...or even a Retro influenced style.
There is also a rather slick looking new teaser poster.

A Nice Convertible Is No Substitute for A Flying Car

The clever concept of this Total Recall tie-in ad is completely undermined by featuring the
decidedly un-futuristic and conventional looking Chrysler 200 Convertible.

Total Recall - New Trailer & Some More Vehicle Concept Art

The 30th Anniversary of Blade Runner's release was earlier this week, and I shared a vintage featurette they used to promote the film at Sci-Fi & Comic Cons here. If you've ever doubted the influence Blade Runner continues to have on the futuristic aesthetic of modern Science Fiction films just check out the Total Recall trailer and some of the cool concept art Vehicle Designer Harald Belker has shared from the new film.

Previous trailer and more vehicle concept art here.

Where's Kuato? Total Recall Trailer Debuts - Plus Motion Poster, Cool Car Concept Art, and Location Car Chase

The same essential set up as the original, but with sleek effects, and a modern urban cyberpunk setting.
Word is there will be no Mars story in this re-imaging but there will still be a Kuato.
Right now it's just looks like a "Bourne" style thriller set in the future.

But here's some sweet Blade Runner-esque vehicle concept art by Harald Belker

And the real cars on location from a car chase filmed in Toronto

First Look @ Total Recall is...Ugh...A Teaser for The Trailer

This marketing gimmick is getting old very fast. Full trailer debuts this Sunday April 1st. Hmm...that's an interesting date choice. Looks very Blade Runner-ish as far as the visual style goes.

Update: Here's the New Banner Poster.

Release the "Wrath of the Titans" Trailer!

First trailer for the sequel to the meh remake of Ray Harryhausen's Clash of the Titans.
Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams" cover provides the building beat - rock anthems
of  70's, 80's and 90's seem to be the new music of choice for fantasy/action trailers.

John Carpenter's The Thing - Awesome 1982 Retro Trailer and Old School Making of Featurette

No, I Never Wondered What Happened To The Norwegian Team.

I've really avoided showing stuff from the new "prequel" to John Carpenter's The Thing opening this Friday. Just because the whole idea seems so, well...unnecessary. In fact as I was getting my thoughts together to write this, the If Movie Posters Told the Truth peeps were kind enough to come up with this poster that pretty much sums it up.

Exactly - they find some thing frozen in the ice, thing thaws, thing is not Captain America, they all die. Other than the actual discovery of the monster - it's pretty much the same thing that happens to Kurt Russell's team. So essentially this is really just a thinly veiled remake with updated CG "enhanced" effects - despite all the talk of staying true to the Carpenter version and using a lot of practical effects from the production team. There's certainly nothing in the trailers to give a hint of anything other than the standard Sci-Fi shock scares. And just in case remaking the 80's Thing wasn't enough - this final weeks major promo angle, being pushed in the cast interviews, is comparing Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character to Ripley. So, bonus - it's also like an Alien remake! Yay...two remakes in one!

Which leads me to my biggest suspicion about the whole disingenuous "prequel" approach. This is not an artistic endeavor to answer 30 years of nagging back story questions about the fate of the Norwegians. This is a movie about insidious gooey shape changing aliens - if that's not horror movie franchise material what is?

So here's my guess for the big twist ending. Everyone doesn't die at Team Norway. The Ripley Chic, probably along with Young Uncle Owen (and perhaps a dog ) manage to escape heading off  to some alternate rescue in the opposite direction from, and well before, Kurt Russell's team arrives. But - ambiguous ending alert - could one of them actually be The Thing? Or maybe it's the dog! And voila - the prequel sets up it's own "sequel(s)" following the previously unknown survivors; and everyone involved in the franchise can continue to tell themselves they didn't "remake" Carpenter's Thing. Or did they?

So anyway here's the "red" band (R Rated) trailer.
I guess because it has a cliched "surprise" impaling scene.

And here's a preview clip reel of 4 scenes via Collider .
Which starts with the first key monster reveal moment?

THE END?
