Total Recall - New Trailer & Some More Vehicle Concept Art

The 30th Anniversary of Blade Runner's release was earlier this week, and I shared a vintage featurette they used to promote the film at Sci-Fi & Comic Cons here. If you've ever doubted the influence Blade Runner continues to have on the futuristic aesthetic of modern Science Fiction films just check out the Total Recall trailer and some of the cool concept art Vehicle Designer Harald Belker has shared from the new film.

Previous trailer and more vehicle concept art here.

The Coolest "Avengers" Concept Art Of The Day - Animated Storyboards by Jane Wu

(Now updated with embedded clips via io9 or use the image links)
You'll have to click the images or links to view the animatics (animated storyboards) but they are so worth it!
I've always loved the quick visual shorthand of storyboard art, but these animatics shared Jane Wu are just terrific! You can really see how they lay the groundwork for what ultimately becomes realized in the final film.

Epic Concept Art of The Avengers by Nathan Schroeder

The Making of The Avengers - Concept Art

See even more stunning concept art for the Helicarrier, massive sets, and battle damage at Nathan Schroeder's portfolio site. I shared some of his gorgeous Captain America concept art previously. He also worked on Thor, several of the X-Men films, as well as many other major non-Marvel films - so I highly recommend spending some time looking around his site. Via Kotaku. Also Io9 has a really great article with production designer James Chinlund and concept artist Ryan Meinerding describing much of thought behind the design choices on everything from costumes to architecture here.

This is How it All Began...Thanks Mr. McQuarrie. Rest Well.

Ralph McQuarrie's beautiful conceptual art not only sold the movie to 20th Century Fox execs
back in the day; but has been continually used in promotions and merchandising up to this moment.
McQuarrie's imagery is often more iconic than the actual film stills (despite the expected
changes in characters and designs) as it always recalls that essential magical aspect of
Star Wars - the promise of adventure and worlds never seen before, the promise of something...epic.

Real Steel Robot Concept Art and Special Effects Featurette

Just a sample of some of the production concept art and robot character design done by Victor Martinez for the hit film. Via i09 which also has a great interview discussing the design process and inspirations...
One important way these robots are different from Transformers: they look like they were made by people. Martinez says the design team was keen for the robots to look utilitarian, with gears, pistons, servos and gyros. "They had to feel like they really functioned," he said.
Many of the robot designs include a throwback to the vintage, humanoid robots of the 1950s, with an "old-timey nostalgic feel" but also a contemporary spin, says Martinez. It was all part of establishing a "robot language" that would inform all the different robots in the movie.
Also check out this featurette from the Daily that covers the special effect used to create convincing fighting robots.
