Eggs

At least that's what we read.
We were so enamored with the red and orange and white of this sign
on the side of the Jamieson Machine Company, we neglected to note the metal plaque.

Finding a Resource to Compliment the Ghost Sign Hunt

Zooming in...

Dry Goods and Furnishings
And on the far end of the row:

Hopkins Imported Teas, Silks & China.
And this building is at 4th and Francis.

If you're so inclined, we recommend visiting this page for a little more history about St. Joseph and a lot of photos of signs before they were ghosts.

Jamieson Machine Co., St. Joseph Missouri

The opening on the second floor should be a tip off that this building is still in use.

But is it the Jamieson Machine Company?

Survey says yes. They're still in business.

Which makes this not a ghost sign, but still, faded ad art, which is the name of this blog.

More from Missouri

Still around downtown St. Joe.

Once upon a time it was a store. Now it's lofts.

Days Gone Buy

Once upon a time, in order to buy something, one had to go to a store.

Many times, these stores were clustered together in what was termed "downtown."

St. Joseph was no different.

Downtown St. Joe

It almost looks as though someone deliberately painted over the letters to make them unreadable.

Same sign, different angle:

Wright's Jewelry

Dearest Reader, we apologize for not updating more recently.

However, we were in Philadelphia, PA, hunting that fine city's ghost signs.

We shall bring you those, once we have exhausted our collection from St. Joseph, MO.

And this could take a while.

Downtown St. Joe

We glanced at Google Streetview before the trip to St. Joseph, and spotted this sign along with a couple of others.
We figured we'd make a quick stop, maybe 30 minutes, for a few photos.

We ended up spending 90 minutes, because we just kept finding more and more ghost signs.

What Helicopter?

I don't see a helicopter.

So far, we've shown you a sampling of St. Joseph's industrial area.
Next week, we move into the downtown and bring you more commercial
ghost signage.

Guys

The only word we can make out appears to be "GUYS" running down the right hand corner.

Although to the left of that, we can read "Queen Sparkling Drink."
We wonder if this used to be a bar, saloon or other cantina.
Most recently, it's been home to a glass company.

Still More from St. Joe

We'll be honest; there were so many ghost signs in St. Joseph, and we had so little time, we couldn't capture all of them, and in fact gave some short shrift.
Like this one:

We could have gotten closer, but just didn't have the time.
(And we were still on the ground longer than expected!)

On the Road

Dear Reader, we apologize for the lack of posts as of late, however, there has been a lack of new ghost signs in our view.

To remedy that, we took to the road, stopping in St. Joseph, Missouri.

We were not disappointed.

In fact, we were floored by the quantity and quality of ghost signs in St. Joe.

Bookmark this page again and brace yourself.
We believe you will be impressed over the next several days.
