Teacher, You're Owlsome!

Greetings! Kids are going back to school now. From kindergarten to college, millions are starting a new year. My son is a sophomore in college this fall so there's no need to make a teacher card but old habits die hard! I am feeling nostalgic and I miss my son who has been gone a week now. So I decided to use one of my old favorite apple dies and create a card for a deserving teacher.

I started this card by cutting out 7 apples and pieced a stem and leaf to each one. I made a white A2 card base and dry embossed about 75% of it, leaving the cardstock plain toward the top where I was going to put the sentiment and brads. I arranged the apples over the embossed area and trimmed off the edges where they overlapped the card edge and where the embossing ended at the top. I added a couple Glasses Brads to help fill the space.

Then I cut a Thanks strip and applied it at border where the embossing ended. I cut another one in red and glued just the thanks word to the top of the first thanks die cut. I added Book Brads, Apple Brads, and Sketched Owl Brads. Finally I stamped the You're Owlsome on the front and I stamped "for being my teacher" on vellum. I cut the vellum into a strip and decorated it with green Cut Jewels on each end. I applied it to the card by dabbing glue behind the bling so the glue would be hidden.

A Zesty Birthday!

I'm a fan of citrus used on a card so I was thrilled when Eyelet Outlet released their Lemonade and Fruit Slices brads last year. It has a lemonade pitcher and wedges of oranges, lemons, and limes. Recently I came across a stamp set that featured an orange so I had to purchase it knowing it would be perfect for several EO brads.

To make this A2 card, I started by inking and blending the orange background on watercolor paper. Once dry, I cut it out with a die. I stamped and colored the balloons and orange. I also stamped the sentiment on the bottom and cut out the Happy Birthday words in pearlized white cardstock. I added two bright Balloon Brads to the balloon cluster and added the glasses, hat brads and pearl bling to the orange. I used orange and green chalk on the orange as well. The I put all the pieces on the card and added the Orange wedges from the Lemonade and Fruit Brad set. Finally I added the orange Jewel Strip Bling. The result is a card that is good for the young or old, female or male and it makes me smile. It's perfect as an add to my stash for future use.

A Simple Time

This week's card takes us back in time. It takes us to a time that was much simpler when there were no cell phones, no computers and if you wanted to get something done you needed to use good old fashioned elbow grease.

I created this card using multiple steampunk/old fashioned type washi tape cut in squares for the background. If you look closely, one of the squares is the pre embossed faux leather Eyelet Outlet offers at their shows.

Attached to the base are three tags, each bejeweled and embellished with multiple old fashioned type brads and bling. The card is finished off with multiple large, stippled jewels and several different chip board sentiments.

This is a fun card that will be sure to brighten anyone’s day and bring them back to a simpler time.

Have a wonderful week and always be STRATE-UP CRAFTY!

Roaring Good Time - Masculine Birthday

Hi everyone! It's Janet and today I have a fun driving card featuring a background made with really cool Washi Tape. I also used Driving Brads, red, and black Glitter Enamel Dots. I created fun sunglasses with a Sunglass Brad. Inside the frame, I colored black with a marker and then I filled the lens space in with Glossy Accents. I think the glasses look like they have actual lenses in them. It's a neat effect and it could be fun with any color to create colored sunglass lenses.

To make the background, I applied the washi tape on white cardstock and then cut it into three pieces. I applied them on top of red A2 card. I made the accent with dies. It is a great place to stage the Driving Brads and enamel accents. This is a great birthday card for almost any man. It's a good one to keep in your stash and ready to give away.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Part 2

The Studious Owl Note Pad holder is the perfect gift for your favorite teachers.

Her entire body is made from layering the Brown Glitter Washi Tape which gives her a perfect amount of owl sparkle. Her pupils are two black Bumpy Bling jewels and the jewel on her tassel is a Silver Edged Stippled Brad.

To make sure she can read every word in her Explore book from the Bicycle Brads, she is wearing her ever-so-fashionable reading glasses from the Eyeglasses Brads.

Lift up her head and you will find a special pocket that fits note pads or sticky notes. Oh, and if you need a ruler, this owl has you covered!  The inside is trimmed with the Tape Measure Washi Tape.  HOW CUTE IS THAT?!?!

Our last but definitely not least piece is for that very special bus driver.

Unfortunately, they sometimes bus drivers get overlooked so we need to try to always recognize what they do and how we appreciate them.  Imagine their face as your little hands them this card shaped like their school bus!

The two children on the bus are so excited to get to school because the bus driver makes it a fun ride.  The two Bumpy Bling headlights are leading them safely to school.

I loved making this Back to School/Teacher Gift collection as it reminded me of when my babies were still in school and all the fun we had!

I hope these inspired you to create something special for the teacher and bus driver in your life.  There’s nothing better than bringing a smile to someone’s face and with a little help from Eyelet Outlet, you can do just that. 😊

Have a wonderful week and always be STRATE UP CRAFTY!

Girls (Tape) Just Wanna Have Fun

Eyelet Outlet Girls Tape is beautiful and fun... it also pairs really well with LOTS of other tapes and brads, so you can create a custom card for your favorite girl! In this case an axis of Film Strip Tape (placed vertically) and Music Washi creates a space to place three of the girls around, with Book Brads, Iced Coffee, the smartphone from our Selfie Set, a Feline Brad and Eye Glass Brads placed at the intersection. A few white Star Brads are scattered around and then some tiny silver Star Sequins. A mat of Glitter Black Tape adds an appropriately sparkly finishing touch.

Eyelet Outlet has embellishments for every girl, boy, woman and man on your cardmaking list, hop over to the Online Store and check it out!

Trick or Treat

There are few things more adorable, in my (Lauren's) opinion, than tiny children dressed up for Halloween; unless it's tiny MONSTAS wearing Eyelet Outlet Brads as part of their disguise!

The Yeti, Dragon and Unicorn from Taylored Expressions' Mythical Grumplings stamp set are seemingly already at the top end of cuteness, but then I decided to give them (from left to right) a Witch Hat and Wand from the Wizard Set; a Men's Hat and Mustache; and Groucho Eye Glasses. A Pumpkin Brad and a Frog complete the scene, which turned into the world's fastest shaker card thanks to a set of nested oval dies and some EO Star and Pumpkin Sequins

School Days, School Days

It's that time of year, when the kiddos --and the teachers!-- in our lives are headed back to school. So I (Lauren) rounded up some of my favorite Eyelet Outlet goodies, including our fab new School Bus Brads, and made a couple of cards to cheer them on!

My first card was a happy accident. I had these fun Bella Boulevard chalk-board style papers, and I went looking in my washi stash for a school-themed tape to pair with them. It turns out I had quiiiiiite a few choices, lol. It was hard to decide, so I used ALL OF THEM! Heart TapeBook TapeRoad TapeMath TapeSkinny StripesTape Measure TapeSmiley FacesSkinny HeartsCrayon Tape and Skinny Plaid to be precise. Then I scattered matching brads around the card, including Emotion BradsStar BradsBus Brads, and Book Brads.

My second card has a bit less going on, lol. I've got an Apple Brad, an Eye Glass Brad, a Bus Brad driving along on Road Tape of course, and the bunting which comes in the same set of Skinny Tape as the rainbow stripes on the last card.

And since that concludes my post for today, class is dismissed! ♥

Just For *EWE*!

WARNING: the diabolical pun level of this post is VERY HIGH; pun-haters look away now!

I (Lauren) have a pair of extra-punny cards today, featuring our adorable Sheep Brads and a few other cool Eyelet Outlet goodies!

Last week I posted some Llama Brad cards that were inspired by a pair of novelty socks. Continuing in that same vein, my first Sheep Brad card was inspired by this cute pouch my sister gave me. (Because yes, there does seem to be a Pun Gene, and our family definitely has it!!!) :)

My first thought (of course!) was, "Hey! We have Sheep Brads AND Eye Glass Brads!!!" so obviously I had to use both. I created the sentiment with a mixture of stamps (spectac and lar) and alphabet stickers. My original idea for the card did not involve Star Brads, and would have had the specs right next to "you're". But because the Eye Glass Brads are open at the center, they have their prongs off at the edges, and actually need two small holes, and I didn't punch the holes precisely enough. Of course I could have started over, but at times like these, I will usually try to come up with a fix. In this case, it was to move the glasses up, and place a white star over the resultant holes; then add a couple more stars to make the placement seem more intentional. In the end, I think they look really good, and if I was going to make a second card like this, I'd plan on stars from the beginning!

The thing about puns is, it's hard to stop at just one, lol. So while I was making the "Spectac-EWE-lar" card, I kept thinking of other words with "EWE" in them. One of which was, "EWE-phoria". At first I wasn't sure how that would translate into a card, but when I was retrieving the Star Brads for the first card, I saw my Knitting Brads and thought about how much I love yarn, some of which --coincidentally-- comes from sheep. I drew the long tangly trail verrrrrrry lightly in pencil and stitched over it twice with my sewing machine. Then I added my alphabet stickers and finally set the Sheep Brad, plus two balls of blue yarn (the packs also contain yellow, purple and green) and the needles from the Knitting Brads.

That's all for today. If you need me, I'll be right over there, near the air conditioning vent, knitting! ♥

really really really
loves yarn!

Magical Birthday

Hi Friends! kel here today to share a magical birthday card!

I had this one round shaped pair of glasses from the Eyeglass Brads set sitting on my desk and had a DUH moment, thinking of making it into a magical birthday card for my Potter-loving son!! His birthday isn't for a while, but I know he has other friends who are into the books too, so I figure it's always good to have a stash on hand!!

I paired it with some star washi from the Eyelet Outlet Store. I used the beautiful Black and Gold Foil Washi and some wide star washi tape to create my background. I love how simple it was to put together the background and how the gold and black just pops off the page!

Super fun magical birthday card!! I loved being able to use up some beautiful washi too!! Thanks for stopping by today and see you again soon!!

lovies, =o) kel

Explosive News!

Hi!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards!

I have to admit, when I first joined the EO Design Team, working with washi tape was outside my comfort zone.  But now I find myself having a lot of fun incorporating it in my projects.

It's all due to the fact that Eyelet Outlet has SO many washi tapes available...there's something for everyone!  That and all the great inspiration from my Design Team Sisters...did you know we have the Washi Queen on our team?  Yes, we do!

I used the Colored Math Washi Tape today and it provided the perfect background (and gave me my color cues, too).

I paired this with the Great Chemistry stamp set.  It was purchased as a required stamp set for a Copic coloring class.  I never used it and figured I never would.  Thank goodness for this washi tape as it caused me to dust it off.  Here are the results:

I thought a split-front card would be a great way to showcase both the image and the sentiment inside.  It was a good choice.  This sort of card is easy to make and you can adjust the upper and lower panels to any size you need to accommodate your focal image and sentiment.  I have a template for this layout on the Freebies page if you'd like it.

I used several other EO products on my card:

I colored this mad scientist with Copic markers and then added the glasses.  His eyes were calling out for a pair of black pearls which I dotted with white gel pen to give them a highlight.  I pieced his bow tie with Green Glitter Washi and I "filled" the vial with Red Glitter Washi, but I colored it with a Copic marker for a custom color.  Of course his formula has to be bubbling, so I colored the Swirl Jewel Bling in various sizes.  Here's a closer look at all that:

I used another image from the stamp set for the area below him and the bling worked perfectly for that as well.  But I wasn't done with the bling quite yet.  I added it to the greeting, which was calling out for embellishment.

This is such a fun card!  I really enjoyed making it.

The Cutest Trick-or-Treaters on the Block!

Here's a shocking true confession: Until recently, I (Lauren) have not made Halloween cards every year. I think it was just because I didn't ever seem to have the right ingredients; by which I mean a selection of Eyelet Outlet Halloween Brads. Because now that I do, I ♥LOVE♥ making Halloween cards, and this one might be my favorite so far:

When I was lucky enough to win my choice of Pretty Pink Posh stamp sets (via the Summer Blog Hop at Coffee Loving CardmakersI chose Holiday Pals because I knew they'd look adorable dressed up for Christmas with Eyelet Outlet Antler Brads and Elf Hats. But when I was looking through my Halloween stash, I realized they'd be equally adorable dressed up to Trick-or-Treat! From left to right I've given them: Witch HatsSmall EyesMustache BradsWitch LegsMen's Hats and Eye Glass Brads

My top tip for adding brads to small fussy-cut creatures is to add the brads BEFORE you cut the critters out; that way you can use the hidden bits of cardstock as extra support! For example, I cut around these guys' HATS, rather than just their heads. I also suggest turning the brads a bit, if necessary, to hide them better behind the critters. However, if necessary, you can trim the brad legs with sturdy craft scissors. If bits of the brads can be seen through-- as in the case of the Eye Glass Brad on the Bulldog and the Mustache Brad on the Bunny-- use a pen that coordinates with your background to color the part that can be seen, so that you do not have to trim INSIDE the image to make it fit! In the case of the awesome Witch Leg Brads, they were just slightly too long for Miss Kitty, so I trimmed them with my sturdy craft scissors, and attached them to the front of the cat with gluedots.

All that was left to do is build a scene for the sweet Trick-or-Treaters to inhabit. I used patterned paper for the sky and the moon, Wide Brick Washi for the wall, Glitter Black Tape for the pavement, then filled in with PumpkinsKittens and Bat Brads to add a little more seasonal color!

would happily give out pet-safe goodies,
if cute bunnies, cats and dogs came trick-or-treating to her house!
