NEW Webster's Pages "Nest" Collection!

Good morning and welcome to...October?! For real?

Yes, crazy. But let's start off the month right with a project with a brand NEW collection from Webster's Pages called "Nest". This collection is awesome...and being a family-oriented mama, all the little family-themed items in this range are right up my alley. So many cute motifs to cut out, cards, titles, new stickers, etc- much to love here. And COLOR...tons of color!

Here is my very first project using this gorgeous new line:

"With You I am at Home"
The inspiration for this canvas came from the 4x6 "Family" card cut out. I loved the different shades of eggs all sitting in a row :). And I just went from there.

I applied some "Egg Blue" chalkboard paint from Prima with a spatula to the background of my canvas. Then misted with "Sunshine" & "Worn Leather" Color Bloom sprays before I went to work adding my various "Nest" cutouts and stickers.

I loved creating dimension by layering these little fussy cut frames and heart, popping them up with foam adhesive. I also used one of the vellum envelopes from the Nest "Memory Pockets & Labels Kit" to pull the whole cluster together.

Below my layered hearts I added a Blue Fern Studios "Party Flags" chipboard banner piece. I found that if you use an old paint brush (one that has stiffened bristles) and apply gesso vertically, you get a wood grain effect which I though worked great for this project!

NEW Ingvild Bolme Shabby Chic Metals from Prima!

Have you seen the new Ingvild Bolme Shabby Chic Metals from Prima yet? Prima made the full, big reveal earlier this week- and you are just going to be in love! Such intricate pieces with moveable parts...amazing. Truly, not a detail was spared in these pieces!

"Grow"
This is a nature-inspired canvas that I created, featuring a couple of these new pieces.

This shabby metal latch has three different parts to it, complete with a functioning sliding bolt. If you love fine details, you will be truly pleased with these!

This vintage water pump reminds me of one that I have in my own garden. I wanted to give it an aged appeal, and there's just so much texture on the surface that coloring and altering truly has no limits!

Check out the blog for more- including Ingvild's new stamp-n-add set and resins!!

Have a great weekend!

Prima: Forever Green Garden Journal

It seems fitting that today's post features a garden journal, as it is my gardening and foraging that has kept me so busy and away from my blog :)

If you haven't yet checked out the amazing Prima collection "Forever Green", you must do so! It is stunning- and absolutely perfect for this bountiful time of year...and just what I needed to record my gardening escapades this year.

"Garden Journal 2014"
Prima has a ton of new gorgeous trims, which I've incorporated here and throughout. I love the natural, raw texture of these neutral trims for my nature-based project.

Here I've used the Forever Green cling mount stamp set, crochet icons, and bling from the 3-D stickers set.

So many fussy cut details from this beautiful collection!...

NEW Prima: Epiphany Collection!

Good morning!

Prima has been sharing looks at their new Summer CHA 2014 collections over the last several days, and today it's all about the gorgeous "Epiphany" collection! I have a mixed media canvas up on the blog today and I'm happy to be able to share it with you all :)

"Secrets"
I've loved Prima products for a long, long time. And this one was like Pixie Glen meets Printery with a fresh new spin! Love it so much...my fave of the new releases. Scripty doodles, neutrals, vintage sweetness... pure perfection. I thought it went so well with this photo of my daughter on our front steps.

Color Blooms sprays and Chalk Edgers helped mix up my background. Lots of hand-cut layers accented by gorgeous new flowers and new layered embellishments. So many things to love!

Textures added in with new trims and metal dies. And just a little bit of stamp work with some coordinating stamps :).

See the full collection and many, many more projects {HERE}. And stay tuned- there's so much more to come this week yet!

Take care :)

"Imperfection is Beauty" Canvas: Webster's Pages Growing Up Girl!

"Imperfection is beauty, Madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."
- Marilyn Monroe

What a great quote for a mixed media project, right??

The Webster's Pages "Growing Up Girl" collection is not only full of candy-sweet colors, dreamy pastels, and fantastic imagery, but offers up an entire page of fabulous quotes, just like this one! It is what inspired my canvas, to create something beautiful yet messy, pretty but muted in my preferred style. Simple, yet detailed, textured, and layered.

"Imperfection is Beauty" Canvas
I began as I often do by applying some book pages. I then tore strips of paper from the Growing Up Girl collection and applied them as well, before sealing them with gesso. A bit of misting, masking, embossing, more layers, and paint were added.

Some closeups...
The foundation for my quote began with a transparent envelope. I cut the flap from the envelope and adhered the backside of it to my canvas. In it I tucked some paper, one of the new wood ATCs, and some paper punched bits. On top of it I used a raw Blue Fern Studios chipboard film strip piece before adding my embellishments. To the left of the canvas in this photo, you can see I've used one of the new paper straws (also seen on the bottom and right side of my canvas). I simply cut the length I wanted and then used a scissors to cut open lengthwise and then curled it around the edge of my canvas.

Projects like this are great for using up scraps! Here you can see the piece of paper I'd used to punch out my confetti. I tucked it under one of the book pages for some fun texture.

The March MMM Kit: A Reverse Canvas

Hi everyone :)

I'm here with you today to share a project using the March Magnifique Mixed Media kit from C'est Magnifique. This kit is like a breath of fresh spring air- and just in time.

I thought I would help you out with an idea as to how to put the cute little glass bottles included in this month's kit to use. I decided on a reverse canvas as the wooden stretcher bars were the perfect little shelf for my bottles to sit on :).

"Make Someone Happy Today" Canvas
I used the blue Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic ink to decorate the blue bottle. Simply squeeze a couple of droplets inside, replace the cork, and give it a shake. The inside of the bottle will be coated in ink, giving it a nice and even coloring. I dabbed the outside of the bottle with gesso before securing some sticks with jute twine. The green bottle was first painted with gesso before spraying the outside with the Lindy's Stamp Gang "Edelweiss Moss Green" mist included in the kit.

A hot glue gun was all I needed to secure these bottle in place.

The Blue Fern Studios chipboard was decorated with a variety of colored microbeads.

Twinkling H2Os, including the "Blue Grass" and "Pear Blossom" in the kit helped decorate the edges of my canvas. Simply apply randomly using your fingertip.

I've used vintage book pages to cover the frame. They've been painted with gesso and stamped (with the stamps included in the kit) with distress ink.

The Cosmo Cricket mini word stickers made for quick and easy titling!

February Magnifique Mixed Media Kit~!

Good morning!

I'm so excited that I can finally share with you my first project using the {SOLD OUT} February Magnifique Mixed Media Kit from C'est Magnifique! It's such a joy putting these together each month, and just as much so creating with them.

Today I have a special canvas to share with you; a reminder to myself to cultivate the fruits of the spirit. For me, visual reminders are a must and creating something about which I feel passionate makes for a great project. I really loved putting this together :)

"Fruits of the Spirit" Canvas
This kit had so many fun things to choose from, and the color palette is simply awesome :)

I used book pages to create the distressed, torn layers like you see on the bottom of the canvas here. I highlighted them with the Magenta Shimmerz and Pink Azalea Twinkling H20's.

The fussy cut flowers were trimmed from one of the Prima Paintables cards.

My title was cut from one of the Prima Chalkboard cards, with details cut from the We R Memory Keepers cards and the backdrop from one of the Manor House Creations papers included in the main kit. Underneath you can see just a hint of the Pink Azalea Twinkling H2O's. I've added jute twine and gold thread from my stash.

Fussy cut butterfly courtesy the Prima Paintables.

I've used the KaiserCraft clear stamp along with some distress ink and stamped it randomly throughout my canvas.

Finally, the Splash of Color Modeling Cream and ColorBox stencil worked together to add some beautiful detail. The Ranger "Scattered Straw" Distress Paint was easy to dab on for additional color.

Here's another look at the complete February Magnifique Mixed Media Kit:

January Magnifique Mixed Media Kit

Good morning! I have for you today a project that I created using the January Magnifique Mixed Media Kit from C'est Magnifique. I decided to use the 5"x7" canvas that comes with this kit and create a simple, pretty piece for my wall. I hope you like it :)

"Winter's Thaw"
I was inspired by the cool, wintery blues in this kit and feel that the pretty pinks are the perfect offset to them. It made me think of winter turning into spring, which is what I was going for here in this canvas.

The Primary Elements are very easy to control. You start by putting some of the Acrylic Glaze into a dish and add a very small amount of the Primary Elements powder. Continue adding until the desired depth of color is reached. I simply used my finger to apply, blending into the canvas along the edges and over the subtly masked area. Get creative and experiment! What's great about canvas is if you make a mistake, simply throw some gesso over it and start over! ;)

I loved using the "African Jade" Silks for a brighter splash of color. I prefer to use more saturated colors sparingly, to draw the eye but not take over. Apply them beneath clusters and other elements on your project.

"Big Moment" Mini Album Cover: December MMM Kit!

Good morning! I'm here with you today to share a project that I created using the December Magnifique Mixed Media Kit from C'est Magnifique. This kit is packed with a pleasant variety of medias and supporting embellishments making it a strong, stand-alone kit as well as one that beautifully coordinates with this month's main kit.

Here is a first look at what I've done this month:

"Big Moment" Mini Album Cover
This kit allows for deep, rich colors and textures which I tried to emphasize on my project today.

My background was first primed with gesso before using the Shimmerz mist. I like to work in threes, so I spritzed the top, right, and lower right of the album cover. On top of that I used modeling paste and a mask to add texture over these same spritzed areas. The Lindy's Stamp Gang embossing powder was sprinkled randomly on the masked areas before setting with a heat gun.

Using my finger, I applied both the Viva Decor crackle paint and Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam to the edges and corners of the album. I hit those areas with the heat gun as well. Some stamping with the Prima chalk edger and stamp was added randomly throughout.

For the chipboard, I used the TCW Balzer Bits mask from the kit along with some clear embossing ink and stamped over top the mask with the ink before sprinkling on the LSG embossing powder and setting with the heat gun. That way I got the scattered design with just a hint of script from the mask.
