spent the weekend at the WOMAD festival, and it was awwwesome.. will go into that later..

SAt
Went to the clinic at Mt. Elizabeth with Pam for scanning of her baby. first time in my life to witness ultrasound scan, so was really excited. but took really long before Serena (our fren who is a nurse and offered to let pam scan for FREE, somemore its a new 4D machine..) could get a clear picture of the baby coz the baby kept turning n turning n turning. She knows that we are looking at her, so she purposely play hide n seek with us. We couldnt be sure that its a girl, but since Pam's gut feeling is a girl, and mums' feel is always the most accurate, we just take it as a girl. in the midst of scanning, Serena was showing us wheres the baby's nose, eyes, mouth etc, THEN... WE SAW THE BABY YAWN!!!! Aiyo i tell u, she is so so so adorable la! Never would i imagine seeing an unborn child yawning. She also did alot of other stuffs, like clenching her fists, sucking her fingers.. aiyo really very cute la...

Headed down to Fort Canning for WOMAD. The crowd was good, the mood was right, and the performances were superb. Theres 3 stages where different artists were performing, but we stayed mainly at the main stage, and the whole field was littered with people. the last act for the night was just totally mind-blowing. the artists, Apache Indian and the Reggae Revolution, literally brought everyone, and i really mean EVERYONE, to their feet, moving to their music. that was the first time i heard them, and im hooked instantly.

Sun
went down to the zoo for my first duty as a docent. Was supposed to have a few seniors on duty as well, but turned out all the seniors couldnt make it for duty, and all that was left were 2 first-timers (me n another fren). its was fun tho, no seniors around.. no stress at all.... ahahaa..

Rushed down for WOMAD, just in time to catch Wicked Aura perform. No surprise, they are as good as ever, but i think the crowd could have been more spontaneous by joining in to the beats. i felt that the group was quite affected by the crowd's response, or should i say, non-response. Maybe its because they are like the first act of the night, but at least they got me moving for sure. I didnt know how good Sheila Majid was until she performed, and even tho i dun understand the malay songs, her voice is so power and damn solid. after her performance, we went to shop ard the Global Village and got ourselves some accessories. Fei got a necklace while i bought a bracelet for myself n a necklace for pam. Went back down to the main stage to catch the last act of the entire festival. Wat can i say, all last acts are always the bestest. This group from Cuba, ASERE, is totally awesome. Plus their collaboration with the legendary jazz drummer Billy Cobham, the whole performance went a notch higher from the "ultra excellent" level. I recorded a section of their act, will try to put it here for u guys to hear. The trumpet was simply great, and the drumming, need i say more. Makes me wanna go back to band!!! Wonderful, fantastic, exhilarating, out of the world.... Watever nice words you can find, i will use them to sum up the entire WOMAD experience. WOMAD 2006, wait for me....

I wanna complain! The electric sockets in my office suck. i have only 2 sockets at my desk, and they are planted below a plank of dumb support and its so blardy near the floor! A multi-plug is so useless becoz there is totally no space to insert any plug on the top or bottom socket. Which means that i cannot plug in my speakers!!!!! And i tot i could have some music at work today. Stupid piece of shit. make me carry my speakers and the multi-plug all the way from home, now the speakers are sitting on top of my CPU, unplugged.

And this morning, i didnt fall asleep during work! im such a good girl.

Names can really be deceiving, Carl's Jr's burgers are no way near the word 'JR', in fact, they are GIGANTIC. No kidding, they are as big as my face, well actually, i am kidding.. hehehee... But they are really smart about the free-flow of drinks. Their burgers are so big that once u finished them, you are already so full that the stomach has no more space for liquid. So even if its free-flow, 1 cup of drink is more than enuf..... But as a typical singaporean, i die die also must refill my drink, and in the end, i didnt finish the drink.

Went for ktv after dinner. It was a torture coz the room was freeeeeeeeeezing, cant even sing a proper song. Ended up singing mostly rock songs to hide the shivering voice......

My bad habit of sleeping during work is back again. Guess i really cannot stay out late on weekdays.

have i mentioned that i have a very havoc boss? He is an english living in australia working over all asia, 40 something, with 2 kids. For a guy of his age and status (Vice President for Aisa), the things that he do are quite extraordinary.
First, remember Avril held a concert in sg early this year? well, he flew his daughter in from aussie just for the concert and even went with her.
Second, He is a hard-core rugby fan (and so am i) and he supports England (while i support All Blacks). He watches ALL rugby matches, sometimes even watch it live, as in, at the stadium. He is that hard-core. Well, my screensaver in the office is that of the All Blacks Hakka, and one day, he happened to walk pass my com and saw it. He then told me, in a jokingly manner "Amber, I dont like your screensaver because im an British Lions fan. Go and change it." Sorry boss, the screensaver is staying.

Third, he found out that i have a tattoo. The following was the little conversation:

Boss: Is that a real tattoo?
me: erm yes (tryin to hide it with my jacket)
Boss: how long has it been there?
me: a month plus
Boss (turning to a ang moh manager): My! I should be more observant next time!
Boss: My wife is getting her 7th tattoo done. And i wanna get one as well........

He really scared the shit out of me man, tot he was gonna yell at me or something....

Fourth, and this is the classic man. Just a couple of days ago, i was discussing some work with my supervisor, and he walked in "for a chat". More like he was doing the talking. But anyway, he said that he was going to a heavy metal concert later. I turned to him with surprise and blurted out, "SLIPKNOT?", and he was like, "YA SLIPKNOT!! I LOVE HEAVY METAL! AND I THINK IWILL BE THE OLDEST PERSON AT THE CONCERT LATER." All i could to do was to look at him with bewilderment. more to shock actually.

And there you have it.. chi-na bosses of the same age and status are just so so so different.

thanks to the lull period at work, i have surfing the net for scuba diving stuffs and also, some fish identities. I know i know, it sounds boring to non-divers, but too bad.. this is my blog. Anyways, from most of the scuba diving stories that i have read, alot got to do with either life and death accidents or how scuba diving change someone's life. And it made me think why did i take up this sport. Im like totally putting myself into alot alot of hidden dangers everytime i go down there, yet its so enjoying to be flying underwater and have fishes swimming ard. guess its what they call thrill, but it definitely does not come cheap!!! A trip alone costs about 300 bucks, and if i were to get my own gear, my oh my.... it will cost me thousand ++ man....

And how have scuba diving changed my life? erm.... besides the fact that im licensed to dive, i seriously dont think it changed much of my still-so-boring life. Im not toking about small changes, its significant changes thats more important. But at this moment, not yet. Maybe when i meet with some accident den i will come to realise ah... CHOI ah, hope that day dont come at all...

Everytime after a dive, most divers will log or write down that dive experience. I really really tried my best to log my dives as well, but it just seem so impossible. Y? Coz my memory is so short that once im out of the water, i forgot 70% of what i saw down there. Its so frustrating that i refuse to log. Whats the use of having a dive log with "i think i saw a small fish with white spots ...." or "i dunno if i did saw a pufferfish...." To read something like that can already make my blood boil, not to say about writing it down.... Irritating man. Which is why im looking up fish identities. But at this point of time, I still need lots and lots of time to remember even just 10 fishes.... They all look almost the same to me!! Maybe i should start with the fishes that i eat, since its sooo much closer to me.

sometimes i really think that singapore is too small. No matter where you go, you will bump into peeps whom you know. Take myself for example, the number of peeps in my company is less than 20, yet, i met a colleague at the zoo about a month ago, how strange is that? The zoo is so huge, and he has to appear at the place where i got my duty.... Then, i have been bumping into this cousin of mine at pasir ris interchange while going to work.. Then just this morning, i saw another cousin of mine (the first one from my mum's side, the 2nd, my dad's) also at pasir ris interchange! Y is everyone gathered at pasir ris? I know im there, but theres no need to come greet me...

I wasted my weekends and ph away by practically sleeping thru it. It feels so good not to step out of the house, or better still, the bed. Happy birthday to singapore, happy day to me.

*Grandpa has found peace. Sweet dreams. Love always...*

when i got back home ytd, i went straight into coma, and awoke only this morning. From 530pm to 730am, and i was still late for work. Terrible man....

Got a note from Mr Postman ytd, saying that my driver's license is ready for collection! It came so sudden and fast that i was doubting it, but i guess govt bodies can sometimes (very seldom tho) process stuffs quite swiftly.

Today, had free lunch at Changi Village, boneless chicken rice. Not bad i must say. Was supposed to go back to office after lunch, but we went all the way to upp serangoon to get teochew kwehs. And like thats not enuf, we went down to hougang to get otahs before heading back to office. From a simple lunch, it became a food feast, with everyone comin back with bags of food, glorious foood.. We had to enter from the back door to make sure that our boos wont catch us red-handed.

Told myself not to cry at the wake yesterday and today, for i know that i will cry my eyeballs out tmr when going to the burial place. Its never easy to cope with the passing of someone close, but life still goes on. Im sure that, while my grandpa is enjoying his after-life somewhere up there, he wont want to see his children and grandchildren and great-grand children to grieve for too long. So yes, i will not talk about it, for now.

This round's dive trip wasnt as fantastic as i tot it would be. didnt see much stuffs underwater, but i did came home with alot more cuts and bruises. Not to forget a very red face. pics are up over here, so feel free to look around.

will be on compassionate leave tmr, so, peace out.

only after i lost someone den i noe the meaning of "you will regret it your whole life".

if only i went to the hospital to see him on thursday
if only i did not go overseas on friday night
if only i did not use "im busy" as an excuse on myself to not visit him
if only i could turn back time

if only i did any of these, i would have seen him for the last time.
