" The Peaceful Heart" Layout by DT Vicky Alberto

Vicky blogging today... I decided to try something a little different and extend the "collage" Dusty Attic theme that we used on our ATC projects this month - to create a manly layout in honour of Father's day that just passed. I used the last bits of my June Swirlydoos "Brass Shilling" kit and a picture of my husband from our trip to Europe (11 years ago - I just can't remember if this photo was taken in France or Italy).

I used the brand new small filmstrips chipboard set and joined them together to create a railroad effect at the top of my page and tucked a piece of the large skeleton clock under the corrugated cardboard. Next, I cut the chipboard title in half and placed it in two parts on my layout. I used a mini lamp post too and placed it right onto my picture (simply covered it with black DA "soot" paint and clear crackle varnish).

To finish the chipboard, I used inks on the filmstrips and clock and then used gesso and DA "Navajo" white paint on the title. I also dry brushed the paint on the corrugated cardboard. Behind the flowers are some DA paper rose leaves too (love these!).

I used the awesome June DA sketch, created by Mistra, as an inspiration point for this layout. Don't forget to enter the monthly sketch challenge for a chance to win some chipboard goodness! See details on the Dusty Attic NING.

"A Ladies Diary" Layout & "Art" Collage ATC by DT Robin Shakoor

"A Ladies Diary" Layout by Robin Shakoor

Hello everyone!

Today I am sharing a layout that I made using the beautiful Corner Flourish #5 (DA0875)from The Dusty Attic.  I painted my flourish using a light green acrylic paint then adhered each flourish to the outer corners of my photo.

I layered my title and additional embellishments over the chipboard to create beautiful dimension.  This is one flourish set that is guaranteed to make your design standout from the rest.

The ATC theme this month is "Collage."

I used the gorgeous ATC Frame #1 (DA0673) to frame my vintage collage.  I created the collage by  applying matte medium gel to my paper.  I then layered bits of ephemera and applied a top layer of the matte medium gel to hold everything in place and to give it a beautiful matte finish.

I cut the collage into an oval shape and adhered my frame to the outside of the collage.  I inked the frame using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and Smooch Pearlized Accent ink (Snickerdoodle.)  I added two miniature butterflies (DA0893) which were also painted using the Smooch ink.

I hope you give this month's theme a try.  The collage technique allows you to experiment with different patterns and textures to create gorgeous one of a kind projects.

Thanks for visiting with us today.

" Collage" ATC by DT Vicky Alberto

This month's Dusty Attic ATC theme is COLLAGE: An artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a surface, often with unifying lines and color. I used my June Swirlydoos "Brass Shilling" kit scraps glued to a piece of corrugated cardboard and a left over kit flower to compliment several DA chipboard casings (the parts surrounding the actual laser cut pieces), plus a pair of the mini wings. I also used some white DA paint and the DA clear crackle varnish. Wow that's a lot of Dusty Attic on a 2.5 inch by 3.5 inch surface!

TIP: Shabby chic "seashell" effect
How did I get that look on my chipboard? SO Easy! I simply stippled on thick gesso to create peaks. Once dry, I then used some semi-translucent mists (like Tattered Angels and Shimmerz) spraying lightly, letting it naturally resist the gesso peaks created and pool in the "valleys". Kinda looks like a cool seashell effect and it gleams beautifully in sunlight too.

I ended up turning this ATC into a Father's day card for my dad. More of the white paint was randomly sponged onto the paper layers.

Dusty Attic Products Used:
A piece of sweet pea border casing (DA0593)
Some pieces of Moroccan design casing (DA0838)
A piece of ATC frame #4 casing (DA0876)
Mini wings (DA0783)
Alabaster white paint (DA0902)

'Hearts' Collage ATC by DT Gabrielle Pollacco

ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) are such a fun thing to work on when you are in the mood for a little creativity without having to get into a huge scrappy project!  This months theme for the Dusty Attic ATC challenge is 'Collage'.  For me the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the word collage is a combination of designs.  So I decided to take bits of scraps of paper I had left from some of my design team work with Maja Design papers and cut little squares of paper creating a patchwork quilt design.  I then wanted to create tiny 'treasures' from the Dusty Attic 'Mini Chipboard Heart Buttons'.  I began by first painting each of the hearts with a couple coats of the Dusty In Color paints (Navajo White).  Then I gave each of the buttons a slightly different treatment.
For the above button I edged the heart with some Chestnut brown chalk ink and applied some of the Dusty Attic Clear Crackle Varnish.  Then I fussy cut a butterfly from my patterned paper and applied it to the button.

For the next button (above) I used the rounded tip of an embossing tool dipped in a soft lavender nail polish (yep! I said nail polish, it was just the right color! lol) and made little polka dots on the white painted surface.  I then edges the heart button with some brown chalk ink and again applied some of the Dusty Attic Clear Crackle Varnish.  I finished it by tying on a small piece of twine in the button holes.
For the third button I fussy cut a tiny rose design from my patterned paper and glued it onto the button.  Again, I edged the heart with some brown chalk ink and applied the Dusty Attic Crackle Varnish.  Here is a list of the products I used.

Supplies:
Dusty Attic: Mini Heart Buttons, Dusty In Color (Navajo White Paint, Clear Crackle Varnish), Dusty in Bloom (Mini Roses).
Other: Colorbox Chestnut Chalk Ink, Tim Holtz word stickers, Patterned paper: Maja Design (Vintage Spring Basics)
