Sultan Knish, never known for brains or mercy, is now telling Jews to skip praying for Ariel Sharon. His reason? "Other Jews need it more." From his site, we are directed to the OU's thillim page where dozens of other Jews are listed, and told to pray for them instead.
Not that I'm smart enough to go toe-to-toe with a great mind like Sultan, but how much time and effort does it take to add the name "Ariel ben Devorah" to the list? Why not pray for all who are sick? Sultan is right that poor people in Israel deserve our money and prayers. He is right that Ariel Sharon is but one of many who need our help. But he is dead wrong to make that point by telling us to withhold our prayers for Ariel Sharon.
Cooler heads: 1 and 2 <-- Yup, that's Yaakov Menken. When he's right, he is right.
And furthermore: If Sharon had taken ill 4 years ago, Sultan would be screaming PRAY FOR SHARON. Not that his hardheartedness today make him a hypocrite (Sharon changed; so can Sultan) but it's an interesting irony.
