Monday Mojo - Joining the Images (and Challenge Winner)

Hi gang! Karen here with Monday's serving of Mojo, intended to stimulate your creativity and getting those juices flowing :-)

Today I am combining images. Most digital cameras, graphic tablets and printers etc comes with imaging software. It is a good idea to play around with yours and find out what's what, you'd be amazed what you can do once you start playing. For this image I used the software that came with my camera (Photoshop Pro), MS Paint and MS Word.

The Madion in Venice image had elements that I didn't want to use here, so I "erased it" with the eraser in Photoshop (you can also do this in Paint but be aware that this also removes the transparency of the image so save a copy first). I needed to make Mikey solid with only the background transparent, or Madison would show through, so I filled the body with white in MS Paint, then opened it up in Photoshop and removed the background around Mikey.

The images were then inserted into Word; Madision was set to float behind the text (double-click/Layout) and Mikey in front of text. They could then easily be resized and moved into the required position.

Alternatively you could of course print both images out separately and cut them out to arrange them. I think this is great for any "couple occasion". Make her dress white or Ivory and it's a perfect wedding card - even leave it as it is if the bride is somewhat "unconvential" :-)

Pop over to my blog for a list of products used. I wont keep you in suspenders anymore because I now have to draw the winner from my Sunday challenge. Not many of you enjoy a Christmas challenge in April it would seem but then there is of course more chance for those of you who did enter :-) Using random.org here is the winner:

That is CRAFTYANNY. Congratulations to you. Let me know you address and I'll get your prize off to you as soon as I can.

Have a wonderful week xx

Meet Mikey!!

Ooh I do love introducing new collections. Louise has created a super new collection to go with the Holly & Madision bundles, featuring Mikey, boyfriend of Madison - although I am sure the girls will fight over this hunky dude!

On this card I layered the image on several mats cut out with Nestabilities Label Three dies. I tried to make the smaller patches at the back look like jean pockets. All the chipboard is by Rusty Pickle, the stars were coloured with my Copics, and the rest inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink "broken china". The ink was also used for inking all the edges on everything else. The dotted paper is K&Co Broken China.

TOP TIP:
I created the "Cool" sentiment in MS Word, using the Word Art facility. To enable me to layer it on my image I double-clicked on Mikey and chose his layout as "Behind text". This then meant I could move him to where I wanted him in relation to the text. Once I was happy with position I simply printed it out. Again this illustrates the versatility of the digi-stamps.

The new collection will be available to buy next weekend.

Have a lovely Monday. Remember - if your week drags then just daydream a little of Mikey, you're going to get your mitts on him soon enough :-)

Monday Mojo - Using Your Scraps and Re-Sizing

New for Dottie's World are daily posts from the Design Team. This could be something to get your mojo flowing, showcasing new collections, hint and tips, and so on.

Come on, be honest - how often do you use your scraps? If you are anything like me you have a box full of papers that have been half-used. Am I right or am I right? The large A5 card I made here uses scraps only.

Mini Tutorial:
I wanted Henry from our new Animal Magic Download collection a little fatter for this card so I inserted the image into MS Word, got the height the required size (check out my re-sizing tutorial here) then dragged the side to make him the size I wanted:

......and here is my finished card:

  • Henry Hare from the new Animal Magic collection have been printed on a bit of leftover white Bazzill cardstock
  • the sky is from left-over light blue Bazzill which I tore, inked and embossed.
  • The grass is a piece of paper from Basic Grey Mellow collection. I tore the edges and rolled them at the top where it joins the sky, and then inked with brown ink.
  • The house is made from a piece of Prima paper (see my Acetate card with a hint of pink Sunday Challenge). This paper is double-sided so I used the reverse for the windows and door.
  • The roof is white Bazzill that was leftover after printing Henry Hare. This then was edged with my Fiskars Treading water Border Punch and inked.
  • The Sun is a little piece of yellow Mulberry paper. TIP: Brush water in a circle on the reverse of the mulberry paper and gently pull to achieve a feathered effect. After it dried I inked it with orange ink and drew white lines around the edge.
  • The flower stalks are from the same paper as the grass, I inked it to make it darker. The flower heads are from various pieces of left-over papers.

Other than that all I added was a yellow Basic Grey button and a bit of twine, a red heart button, a piece of ribbon, a little HOTP metal clip (for the smoke coming out of the chimney), two metal tulips I had laying around and a few brads for the centres of the flowers. A very economical card, and it's a biggie. It's A5 size and Henry Hare measures 13.5cm!

Pop by tomorrow for another DT post.
