Gala - You & Me (Tareq Rework)

A few months ago, Gala had asked me to upload a remix of her song You & Me to youtube after kindly sending it to me. I have chosen to include a montage of 4 different music videos from the same era in which it came from (Faraway, I Am The World The World Is Me, You & Me itself and Tough Love) to accommodate the extended intro and outros, with the original video itself staying the same. The song was originally recorded for her 2009 record Tough Love and always stood out to me as something of a disco ballad tinged with punk undertones, and a quiet but stirring remix had lay unreleased ever since. Until now. Gala's strident romance collides with an eloquent disco ballad groove (as reworked by Tareq). Her unforgettably striking and androgynous posturing brings the poignancy, desire and euphoric anguish to life. A song highlighted by an urge to express itself; a hybrid of sexual rejoice and political rebellion.

In other Gala news, the song Lose Yourself In Me is gearing up for a French release (the singer enjoyed two number ones in this territory in the 90s, so this is a huge step).

Gala - Lose Yourself In Me (new video)

Enigmatic European native Gala returns with yet another bold slice of her superbly idiosyncratic and adroit dance rhythms. Lose Yourself In Me is seeping in euphoric romance, and its suitably striking new video retains the singer's androgynous posturing and unequivocal stage presence. There is no indication as to when the single shall be available to buy, but fingers crossed this gives her the comeback in the charts she deserves. If she embarks on another European tour I shall simply have no choice but to book flight tickets.

Gala - Lose Yourself In Me (New Single 2011)

Gala's decision to embrace her dance legacy was clearly a close shave.
Owner of possibly the best sculpted cheekbones short of a 90 degrees angle, enigmatic musical hero of mine Gala has impressively sent shock-waves through my shivering body upon my first half a dozen listens of her very new spine-tingling single called, you might have guessed, Lose Yourself In Me, a dance-identified electronic, throbbing dance ballad.

Positively drenched in all her trademark Gala quirks, its melancholic splendor finds the Italian dance warrior on beguiling form (fans would expect nothing less).  I simply cannot think when I am enjoying new music as much as this - what a fine treat for my ears to hear it, an unexpected return to unequivocal dance music from the creator of the 90s classics Freed From Desire, Let A Boy Cry, Come Into My Life, Everyone Has Inside and Suddenly (which were all Italian top 5 smashes).  The song has already been embraced by a random German radion station and is #5 on this chart.  Gala continues to reek havoc around the world whilst touring and rigorously sharpening her game.  If we get a video, expect her signature androgynous posturing. Fed on a diet of visceral rhythms and philosophical lyrics, Lose Yourself In Me falls nothing short of mesmerizing.

New Gala EP In The Works

Gala backstage at Zenith Toulouse 2011
I am rather busy these days, but the return of Gala with a new EP has brought me back. The enigmatic Italian music creator is working on the project in New York, but has been busy on the road in Europe performing her classic 90s hits as well as her more recent Tough Love album material, including the bristling dance-rock hybrid Different Kind of Love and the passionate title track. From the same album, the pre-civil partnership dance-pop ballad You & Me remains one of my favourite songs of all time and I just cannot wait to hear what the singer has came up with next!

Gala - She Really Wants To Try It (2009)

By far the most deee-liteful highlight from Gala's life-in-the-making 2009 Tough Love album was her slithery lesbionic anthem She Really Wants To Try It, snarling all sorts of filth about her vagina. It was the original She Wolf, with a wormy, make that horny, bassline plunging into places I dare not think about. With percussion exclamations that would excite The Creatures, Gala gurns with confrontation or perhaps just zealous scorn for the lipstick liesbians who start to tease the girls when their gays ditch them to pull in the clubs. The Italian dance legend's love machine is literally her meal ticket, then, and by the sounds of it, if she doesn't get this girl to share a cab with her she'll probably devour herself rather than let anything go to waste.

Gala's Got A New Record Deal!

Italian visionary pop legend Gala has scored herself a contract with Plantet Works. Me neither. Plans are underway for some 'mediterranean' shows in the summer. A new REMIX of her 2009 smash Tough Love has been included on a forthcoming Amnesty International compilation album entitled PEACE, and her anthem Freed From Desire has been covered by Spanish scoundrels Mendetz (memo to Mendetz: in the words of RuPaul, 'don't fuck it up!'

Gala

A fantastic review of Gala's new album Tough Love over at Fantastic! Music.

I just hope Gala continues to make music - 12 years was an extravagant gap between albums by anyone's standards.

Want More & More

Despite getting her wires crossed trying to cover Freed From Desire, and ending up with More, More, More instead, after getting mixed up with the song's 'want more and more' chorus, how much does Dannii look like Gala here? Tom boy-ish, beautiful and Eurotrash looking!

A Message From Gala

Hi Handsome, let's organize a show ! why not ?
I don't know the place... But you seem an expert.
Yes for the interview any time for my real and attentive fans.

you are right about the electro sound, it will make it easy, and I like things the hard way though... I am getting remixes too. Anyone interested and really good you know, put them in contact.

I perform with a women band here in NY and in Punta del Este at the end of the month.

I hope the new album a collection of the best songs of my work in the past few years will be out in 2009, things are chnaging in the music world and I want to do the right thing, but I am a very independent mind and people ( straight men in particular at labels) don't know how to deal with it...:-)
