flor

whoever is behind the styling in the new flor catalog is doing a fantastic job. we have some flor in the house but ours never manages to look this clean and cool. i particularly love the vintage furniture they're using in the shots- it really blends modern and traditional brilliantly. click here for more information on flor.

indib

i'm loving these beautiful 100% new zealand wool rugs from indib. these two designs ("branches" and "deck") use silk and viscose accents and have such lush colors that it's hard to resist ordering one for our living room. emma at indib told me that these rugs have been tested in homes with children and are quite durable. indib doesn't have wholesaling set up yet but if you'd like to inquire about ordering for yourself or for a shop you can shoot emma and email right here.

dash and albert

our friends jon and mindy are putting together a nursery and pointed me in the direction of dash and albert rugs. they've got a huge collection of hooked, hand loomed, wool, braided, tufted and indoor/outdoor rugs- some of which might even be good for our dining room. i was drawn to the "rain or shine" diamond pattern, which is online at lavender fields for some pretty decent prices. just wanted to share in case anyone else was on a rug hunt like i am. [thanks, jon!]

the rug company

i'm still on the hunt for a chevron-style rug for the dining room so i've been hopping from rug site to rug site. even though they're out of my price range, i love so many of the rug company's designer collection styles- especially those from marni and vivienne westwood. although sometimes i think i like the styling of the photos even more. the blue wall and pink chaise in the last marni photo is just to die for.

chevron help

i'm desperately trying to find a great white and black chevron rug for our dining room. i'm in love with the madeline weinrib version above but sadly, madeline's prices are way, way out of my budget. does anyone know of similar styles in a flat weave anywhere? or even something vaguely similar? i'm really starting get into chevron stripes again (see the left hand column) so i'd love to find something like this.

feels like fall

despite the fact that we're having a second air conditioner installed in our apt today, it's starting to feel like fall in retail land. i'm loving these rich woven rugs at anthropologie- the whole store feels like autumn now and i'm really looking forward to being able to put on sweaters, open the windows and cook comfort food again. until then, i can just imagine winter show shoes laying on these rugs ($38 for each 2 x 3 ft. rug).

new: chilewich

i've been dying to post this for over a month now but chilewich wasn't ready to announce their new product until this week. tomorrow, sandy and co. will debut a new line of "woodgrain" tiles, w2w and by the yard fabric. i'm nuts about the collection and would love to find a space to use the grey-ish colorway. it's such a simple, subtle way to bring pattern into your home. each piece is made from chilewich's plynyl material and comes in several shades- see them for yourself at booth #1718. i'll make sure i take plenty of pictures and get a first-hand review. [thanks, karen]

i love this rug from anthropologie- it reminds me of amy butler's fabrics: fresh, colorful and just right balance between traditional and modern floral.

eames + feathers

when we moved into our apt the previous tenant left behind a pretty ragged looking eames eiffel chair. it's got a little stamp of authenticity so i couldn't bear to throw it away but it needs to be reholstered or refinished- does anyone know how much it would cost to reupholster one of these guys? it's currently got black leather with the bikini-style stitching but it's filthy and ripped. i'm wondering if it's pricier than buying a new one. also, had to share this cute rug i got from urban outfitters for christmas. i'm loving teal and yellow these days so this little feather number is right up my alley. it's not the softest rug but it will do for the kitchen...available right here for $68.

happy new year + welcome back!

happy new year everyone- i hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are ready for the new year. here at d*s, kate and i are working on updating the site a bit and adding some new features. so i'll be taking the next few days to get a little change ready and kate will be modifying the design so things are a bit easier to find around here. because of all this we'll be back on monday to launch with an updated look and new features. stay tuned on monday for: a refreshed (and more organized) look, a new d*s shop, a big d*s contest announcement, updates on the d*s apt project, the brand new d*s project (hint: it's all about student designers) and much, much more. this year is going to be about a renewed focus on independent design for me. i'll be traveling much more this year and bringing you video, audio and photo coverage of design across the globe. i'll also be laying out a schedule for new features so you'll know when to tune in for what you want. so, i'll see you on monday with all this and a fresh new guest blogger. happy 2007! xo, d*s

[above and below: an exclusive sneak peek at the new rug, wall art and stationery collections from thomas paul. thanks, thomas!]

i've been looking for small rugs lately and i love these little patterned guys at urban outfitters. for $28 you can stash these little 3x5 numbers in front of the sink, in the bathroom, by the door or at the side of the bed. fun design for a pretty fun price. click here for the yellow and here for the brown.

flor

flor

ac and are i deciding on flor tiles for the kitchen (i can't stand the tiles we have) so i've been spending a lot of time at the flor site. i love these two new patterns for fall: willow and fine vine. both are available in super saturated colors that would look fantastic in a small space. i'd imagine they might be a tad overpowering in a large room (but that's just my two cents...i'd love to see someone's home with a huge room of magenta vines). we'll probably end up with the shirt stripes pattern because i've already imposed upon ac with bright pink curtains (a guy can only take so much girlyness) but you can click here to view their entire collection. they've got some great new patterns for kids...

anthro

quite frankly, when i first saw this rug i was surprised i liked it. it's not something i would normally pick but i was drawn to the deep ink color of the background and the bold paisley pattern. anthropologie has really been dead on in my book lately so i was thrilled to see so many great additions to the rug section. the paisley rug is a small 2x3 foot design going for $68 (perfect for a bathroom or kitchen rug) and the colorful melon rug is a larger piece ranging from $300-$800. they also added some cute vases i posted at HG yesterday- always nice to see designs under $50 at anthropologie.

peace industry

3

i stopped by rare device yesterday to see jill bliss' new shop window (the opening reception is this weekend!) and spent some time sitting on a new peace industry rug inside the shop. i was really taken with the quality of the rug- the pattern was so soft and subtle and the coloring was spot on. so when i got home i thought i'd check out what's new with peace industry and it looks like they've updated the site since i last mentioned them. this season peace industry (which is the work of designer melina raissnia) has introduced some really gorgeous fall-colored rugs in rich oranges and yellows. prices tend to be around $1500 so they're not a budget buy, but they're definitely worth investing in if you're looking for an earth-friendly rug that will really make a statement. they're really more like art for the floor than a standard rug. i highly recommend checking out the full collection right here. enjoy!
