Daemon prince (Warhammer)

Hey again,

It took me bit longer to prepare anything worthy posting (longer then I expected that is) but I'm just so glad I can see it standing in the glass case finally.
The star of this post is oldie Daemon prince of Slaanesh.
Or Khorne - model fits both options in my opinion.

As almost always there's a story behind the model:
this one is a piece I've seen in the very first WD I got back days, when Middlehammer was just on the top. New Chaos rulebook was being released bringing Daemons army.
Back days full metal army was totally out of my reach but just when the daemon gazed upon me from White Dwarf page I've been tained by Evil and knew one day I'll get it painted.
And that very day came just came.

Nowdays most stuff being released is hi-tech placcy.
Fuck it. That's just not my cup of tea.
But few months back I've spotted auction where someone was selling painted oldschool piece, which actually arrived to my place few days later...

Model was broken to pieces and spent quite a long time marinating in breaks fluid so whole paint came off nicely. Must say I was so hyped I finally got the model I didn't notice there was claw arm missing...
Too bad, because that piece is just sooo Slaanesh'y.
But that wasn't the only thing I've noticed while drilling and assembling the model again:
I've noticed the metal it's made of was just much harder to drill compared to metal models assembled ever before.
Did some research and it turned out the piece I got was most probably a recast...

I've seen recasted resin models on market but metals?
Ok, it's old model and available only second-hand but if it really is knock off the fuck who casted if could be at least decent enough to cast the missing arm as well...

Nevermind.
The model is painted and I am glad so see it done. There are still some Chaos models waiting in the bucket of shame, which one day might leave it and form Mordheim warband.

Scale shot:
this bad boy would a a BLAST in Warmaster game! Truely daemonic entity!

And just if anyone's interested: here's what complete model (arm!) should look like:

Blood, undead and deep space

Hey again,

Deadcember is nearly over so I am glad I can share a painted deader.
This time it's oldie dire wolf / doom wolf from Warhammer Fantasy (or whatever else it's name is nowdays) range. This one was painted as part of my Mordheim undead warband - which might me finished after wights are painted. Found and painted that is.
The blood I'm sharing is actually for excavation ritual. Hope that works...

Anyway, the model it rather simple:
lump of fur + some teeth and bones but still I had some fun painting it. It's always fun trying to make a piece interesting using mostly washes and pigments.
Still it's more than enough for vampire count's lap dog:

What else?
The last time I've mentioned about painting contest Sherman howitzer was painted for. Since there's still plenty of time 'till the deadline I decided to paint small tank hunters squad from Bolt Action soviet army. I don't use them but that came free with KV-2 tank as tank riders.

Wasn't sure about these models, in fact didn't like them at all at the beginning but after getting them finished and sealed I've changed my mind. They are cool.
I really like the details like the bottle, red stars, caucasian faces etc. Models come with lots of equipment so it's rather easy to change poses to make the models unique.

I also tested using airbrush for painting intantry. Until now I've been using it just for large models. In my case airbrush didn't make work drastically faster, but it was really useful for sculpts which are mostly plain uniforms. Hope you like them.

And there's some more!
Like 2 weeks ago friend of mine brought X-wing game and we had some test playing. I've seen the game like 3 years ago, but back than it didn't impress me much.

This time we had ton of fun with it.
In fact there was so much of it I also got myself a base set (50% promo!!!) and last night infected some members of local Masonc lodge... eee... eee...
Gaming club! Yes, that's right: gaming club...

So I showed the game to some buddies from "the gaming club" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) and I'me rather sure the starter box won't be the last word in this matter.
Besides I want to try repainting some ships so it you are into X-wing: stay tuned...

A piece of advice from the beginning pilot: don't drink and fly ^^

Seeya!

Undead strikes back!

Hey again,

This time it's something to break camo colors of my US Bolt Action army, which have definitely dominated bloggy this year.

A while back someone reminded me about Warheim (Polish "spin-off" of original Mordheim game, still being developed!).
Some time ago I digged several undead model from ye pile ov shame and tried to assemble a warband. The project was first delayed and the forgotten (because of damn Bolt Action...)

But since I need a break from painting everything mostly green and green, decision was made to finish the Vampire Count's warband and who knows - maybe throw it into action shortly.

Can't remember I've ever played Mord / War - heim, so don't think band built only using models I like is effective in game, but who gives a damn.
According to rulebook gang leader is a vampire, often supported by necromancer.

I've always liked idea of ugly, corrupted and rotting vampires (definitely not those cutie, wimpy bitches from popular movie), so the obvious choice was Necrarch family.
Sadly the only Necrarch I had was the guy wearing housecoat...
Oh well... It's still Necrarch...

Although vampires are powerful creatures Necrarchs are not much of fighters when it comes to brutal melee (fluff-wise that is). So Count von Housecoat dragged some of his helpers from the nearest graveyard.
First one is heavy-armoured skeleton.
The piece is definitely oldhammer and pleasure to paint. Colors were chosen to fit remaining undead servants. Not much mroe to be added about this guy:

The other one is much more interesting in my opinion:
oldie ghoul (Gary Morley's sculpt).
Back days I used to totally underestimate these sculpts, I simply considered them ugly as fuck (sorry Gary...). Maybe because those were quite useless unit in Warhammer Fantasy Battle game - low leadership and that silly feed-rule. Something.
But it was back days.
A while back I gave them second look and realised not only they are not as much ugly as "specific" but also they are simply cool. With those weird faces those models could also be used as deep ones!

Since gouls are alive I chose mix of tan + mid grey as base layer which was highlighted with some lighter grey and pale olive. This followed by some umber and olive glazes and voila! - model is ready to search fresh graves for something tasty.
Model turned out bit pale but it's fine - my zombies are rather dark.

And the family altogether - at this rotten stage that is.
Those models should be enough for test game but there's also a plan to expand the group by adding dreg and large (40mm base) werewolf zombie - both from Reaper range.
Hope you like it.

And last but not least:
this month I've also painted very first human-sided model from Lord of the Rings game: Aragorn, badass king of Gondor.
Perry twins did really good job on this range of minis, they are proportional, dynamic and simply cool - especially if you like LotR movies.

Anyway this one is birthday gift for my kid: the pest is now 6 years young so there's a chance Aragorn will remain unbroken for like 2 weeks.
I hope.

Cheers!

Back to the 90's - again

Hello again,

After painting Chronopia beast I somehow cannot kick myself back into hobby routine. Apparently I am tired or overstretched my painting abilities at the beginning of the year...
No matter what was the cause miniatures won't paint themselves and hobby altar demands contant sacrifices.

For a while I wanted to paint Mercurian Maculator from oldie Warzone range (bah, of course OLDIE range!) - it's that ugly thing in the back of first pic.
During back days, when original Warzone was actually alive (and quite prosperous I think) I've never had any opportunity to see the model on the battlefield. It had brilliant artwork - by Paul Bonner himself, nice profile, useful skills and decent gun. But at the same time it was so fuc*ing big it's chance for survilal were just minimal. Nothing but a stupid bullet magnet.

So after Mr Maculator got pinned, assembled, based and undercoated the decision was made to switch to something smaller and, let's be frank about it - looking nice ^^

I've always liked Mordheim - sadly we've never played it. No reason why actually.
No matter how cool the game really was it also had (and still has) huge hobby potential:
tons of miniatures to choose to create really unique gangs, lots of cool ideas about painting and modelling to fit the depraved and wretched City of the Damned.

My "natural" choice for battleforce is Undead but also always loved 90's beastmen models (probably since read Tale of 4 Gamers is WD). Collecting 100% metal Warhammer Fantasy Battle army was just way beyond my reach, but not skirmish raiding party. Slaanesh party...

After some excavation works in the Pile ov Shame some models emerged to start with. I have no idea about battle usefulness of minis chosen, simply picked oned I liked:
there will be like 3 gors, 3 ungors, some boss, minotaur and fiend of Slaanesh (probably proxying chaos hound). First idea was to use orginal beastmen lord / champion from the mid 90's, but I've found oldie chaos warrior model which can be even better candidate:
- it's dedicated worshipper of Slaanesh;
- it has beastman (probably) head;
- it's suited with heavy armour: painting it really dark would be just really cool especially if model is placed in the middle of bright models;
- worst part of the sculpt is that stupid looking blade, sadly it's connected with armour and head so I cannot replace it with anything looking decent.

So here's the current stage of the group. They will get classic "Road to Mordheim" base - simple and effective:

And below you can see the first model from the band (color test).
Since it's Slaanesh group the warriors must look rather "fresh" and alive - and this little fucker is rather ok. At first I wanted to achieve albino effect but then I thought maybe it's better idea to keep such complexion the the boss - no matter what model it will be in the end.

And last but definitely not least since it's about divine matters:
last week I've finally got the sleeve inked. Whole project started few years back but because tattoo studio I chose is 60 km away from where I live, I've always had something better to do than playing with ink and needles. But it was high time to please Great Cthulhu, armageddon might come any day after all (let's hope for it).

It's still fresh and it will take at least few days to heal but I will take some shots when it's done. I kinda know posting tattoo pic is rather silly but hey, it's still better that posting pics of food on Instagram! Or wherever!
Besides that tattoo artist did piece of great job, no doubts about it.

So, Cthulhu, you may now raise from the eternal slumber, I am ready! Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!
