Rooster
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
Some times I like to give myself an assignment of sorts before I start a painting...just for the challenge. For this painting of a rooster I set myself the goal to invent, push color, and play with different aspects. Not too sure that I made a successful painting but it was interesting. I may have to go back in it and lighten it up a bit. Let me know what you think.
I had a terrible time photographing these colors plus the glare was hard to eliminate. This was as close as I could come after about seven tries in different lighting conditions.

Ruffled Rooster
I loved this alarm clock with the ruffled feathers. Awhile back it seemed about all I painted was roosters. I somehow got away from it ...until I saw the great photo! It was graciously supplied by Li for the WDE at the Wet Canvas. This is oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel. Much of the visible red background is the acrylic tone which is applied first

Reworked Rooster
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
This was originally posted on July,18 '07. At the time there was little reaction to it. I've since had time to look it over and consider changes. I kept most of the reworking at the eyes and beak...a small but very important area. The oils were applied thickly in selected areas.
Hope you enjoy!!

Rooster
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
I have done quite a few roosters in the recent past...thought it was time for another. I enjoy all the color and attitude of pride which roosters exhibit. The oils were applied thickly in selected areas.
Hope you enjoy!!

Golden Rooster
Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel. This painting has been previously posted, but I went back and added some subtle changes in the comb and plumage shadows. I really like this one because of attitude, color, and paint texture.

Rooster-Dramatic Light
Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel. I'm happy with the dramatic light on this defiant rooster. I applied the principles I relearned in the previous post.
