Ode to the Maple Laffs

Can't fathom how they are worth anyone's valued time.

We've talked about this.

Maple Laffs could push Mr. Rogers over the brink.

Yes, save the children, one by one.

Because a Cup sure ain't in the future any time soon.

So sad. So true.

What's wrong with this picture?

Here's a shot of the Leafs-Hurricanes game last night... we can see in the below image the kind of hockey the Leafs play that could only end in losing.

Does it really take four Leafs to contend with two 'Canes in the corner, and isn't anyone going to pick up the 'Cane all alone in front of the net?  Anyone? Bueller?

Sheesh, I knew better than this as a kid playing house league.

"Mecca of hockey?" What a joke - guess that's why we call them the Maple Laughs. But the joke is really on the so-called fans who pay the princeliest price for a ticket in the league just to be treated to this garbage masquerading as professional hockey.

By the way, yes, the Laughs were leading 1-0 at this point in the game. However, they went on to lose 4-1. Hard to be surprised with positioning - for lack of a better term - such as the above.

Chicago Blackhawks, Stanley Cup champions

The 2009-2010 Chicago Blackhawks are Stanley Cup champions, ending a drought reaching back to 1961. Congratulations, they were a top team all season and this is an appropriate resolution to the campaign. In a comment on a previous post, I predicted they'd win in six games, and here we are. Of course, it could have gone either way, but there's something right about it.

For me, the byline is that the Toronto Maple Leafs are now the lone Original Six team that has not won a Stanley Cup since expansion.

The Mecca of...something or other

Let's talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs. I'm not a fan, and I hate the notion that some attempt to call Toronto "the mecca of hockey."

Let's recap the last 43 years. No finals appearances. None. Natta. Mecca of hockey? What a joke.
