Found: Former Floral Living Room Pillows

Up until a couple months ago,  pre baby Theron, we had a living room that looked like this:


It was a bright & cheery space in our home that got us featured on The Nate Berkus Show, St. Louis Magazine, and St. Louis At Home Magazine, too! Pretty sweet.  Perhaps the most emailed question {second to the farmhouse table plans request} is: "Where'd you get the floral pillows?" and "Would you be willing to sell your floral pillows to me?"


If you're a long time reader of NVD you know that the "fabric" was just a lucky dish towel find at TJ Maxx!  I was lucky enough to have a sweet mom who was willing to sew two pillows for me!


The "fabric" was a stepping stone to discovering my inner decorator --- corny, but true.  The pillows are no longer in our living room but I can't seem to part with them.  They remind me of how I fell in love with decorating.  Too much sap for one post? I think I just went there.

But, the real point of this post is to let you all know that I found the same exact pillows of the towels turned pillows on this website!  I was so dang excited!





The only problem is that the store is located in Australia and I'm not sure they'll ship to the USA.  However, you could always call them and inquire more about the pillow and maybe they would have some manufacturer info they'd be willing to share.  When I came across it I couldn't believe it and wanted to share it with everyone who ever inquired about my pillows.  I hope if you wanted them you are still reading this!

One Month: My Baby Must-Haves

When I was pregnant I scoured the internet for mommy blogger must-haves and questioned my best friend, Cori, about her baby faves. I saved lists/items/gadgets to pinterest and made wish lists on Amazon. I wanted to be as prepared as humanly possible and wanted to know what I could possibly need/not live without. It was fun and just a bit overwhelming! It's a good thing love me some shopping,

Fast forward a few months and I am flabbergasted at how fast time flies! I am so happy to say we made it through Theron's first month and now I have a group of my one month favorites. Crazy to think I'm a mommy. Still. so.weird. My picks below have truly been a life saver in many ways and I recommend them to you future mommies out there who may be overwhelmed with the never ending choices you're faced with while registering and/or shopping {being overwhelmed is more like it!} at Babies R Us.

Let's get to the goodies, shall we?

1. This is my favorite thing of all of the items, the Baby Connect App. Thank you modern technology! What you see above is a screen shot of an absolutely awesome app for your phone. It has been invaluable to David and me. I use it to track T's weight & stats, save doctor's appointments/questions, track his feedings & diaper changes {very important--since he's getting breast milk it's incredibly important to keep count of his wet ones!}. It times everything out, has charts and customizable screens...I could go on forever. Seriously, please invest in this app if it's the one thing you buy. : )

2. The boppy. Does this really need an intro? It goes with me from the bedroom to the couch every.single. day. It keeps the little dude propped in place during those marathon-around-the-clock feedings.

3. Our stroller, the 2011 UppaBaby Vista {Mica}. I've loved this stroller for years, literally. While some may scoff at the price, it honestly did not matter to me and did not deter me from wanting it. I say that because I saved my mypoints for Amazon giftcards for years before I got pregnant knowing that this stroller is what I would someday spend them on. Plus, David's parents generously gifted us the remainder of what my gift cards {accumulated over 5 years of never cashing them in} didn't cover. David and I have already taken Theron on numerous walks and we love the UppaBaby. Right now T's in the bassinet feature and looks all comfy on his little jaunts. I can't say enough good things about this stroller. It was and is love.

4. SwaddleMe blankets. We registered for these not knowing if we'd use them or not. In fact, for the first couple weeks we didn't use them. Then one night, I convinced David that Theron needed a bedtime routine and that maybe swaddling should be a part of it. I don't know if Theron's a fan of them or not but I do know he sleeps a solid chunk of time being in these bad boys. He occasionally busts one or both of his arms out but mostly stays all wrapped up like a little burrito.

5. The Sleep Giraffe. This is another piece that's become part of our bedtime routine. Again, I don't know if T likes it or not but we turn it on every.single. night. My favorite sound is the white noise and if it's part of the equation for him sleeping two 3-4 hour stretches then I will gladly keep Mr. Giraffe doing his thing!

6. The Cloud B Twilight Turtle. Again, this is another item that's become a part of our bedtime routine. We make sure to turn it on before we put Theron in his crib and it lights up the whole room. Theron's been a pretty great sleeper since birth so if the turtle is helping the turtle can stick around!

7. The Newborn Lounger. I didn't even know this thing existed until David insisted we get it. He had heard from one of his coworkers that it was a staple item. I must strongly agree with that person. For the first two weeks Theron would nap here and hang out here all of the time. As he started getting more alert and fussy, he wasn't as big a fan of it. I still use it for him during my showers and sometimes during his naps. Theron can be sound asleep on me after a feeding and when I go to place him on the lounger he wakes up and wants back in my arms. We still really love it because it is so light, comfortable, and most of all useful.

8. The AngelCare Monitor. This came highly recommended from two friends that have babies of their own. I am obsessed with this monitor and am so glad we registered for it. It has a temperature display {so I know his room is always kept between 67-72 degrees} and a breathing monitor to let me know little T is still ok in his crib. It gives me peace of mind and I would almost pay anything for that. While I was pregnant I had planned on Theron sleeping in the Rock N Play next to our bed for sometime but one night I was up reading the Amazon reviews and could not shake the negative ones. So that same night {very early on} we moved Theron to his crib {Dave slept on the floor} and he's been a champ in there ever since. This happened a whole heck of a lot sooner than I had planned and I'm comforted by the fact that our house is so small and his room is right across the hall. I'm super paranoid about him but thankfully I think this will be the best option for all of us now and down the line.

9. Diapers {with the wet stripe indicator}. David and I plan on using reusable diapers when Theron gets a little bigger but we found ourselves loving any diaper brand with the wet indicator stripe. I have been a freak about charting all of T's dirty and wet diapers since I am breastfeeding and that's really the only way to know if he's staying hydrated and fed. The wet stripe really helped David and I tell what was happening in that little ol' diaper. : )

10. Hand Sanitizer Dispenser. I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought, "that's cute!" I never thought I'd use it as much as we do! We use it every single time we do a diaper change and really many other times too. It looks so much prettier than some old plastic bottle and I'm glad Pinterest showed me the idea.

11. Aden + Anais Blankets. I had read numerous bloggers gushing over these but didn't think about registering for them. I fell in love with the skull and star pattern via 77 Kids and ordered them primarily for that reason. While we don't use them to swaddle, we do use them to cover the carseat, as a blanket, and as a pillow to prop T's head up to nurse. They are breathable and light and I love their versatility.

12. Shea Moisture Organic Ointment. I just discovered this goodness the other day at Walgreen's. I picked it up to have more diaper ointment on hand and was pleasantly surprised by the fresh scent. I am so in love with it that I am going to order the body cream and wash for myself. It is divine. -->Update: Theron just got a little bum rash and unfortunately this stuff smelled amazing but didn't do the healing as good as our Butt Paste. I still love this ointment for a moisturizer and smell good, but it's not cutting it as a healer.

13. Nursing Tanks. Oh, breastfeeding. I could seriously talk your ear off with my feelings about breastfeeding. It has been a complete emotional rollercoaster. I am pleased to say I have made it over a month breastfeeding and am continuing to take each day as it comes. It's hard--that is no joke. These nursing tanks are amazing and I wear them every single day. I love that it allows only the breast to be exposed but keep the rest of you covered. I highly recommend them for home and at the hospital.

14. Newborn Size Clothes. This probably seems obvious to many of you but it wasn't to David and me. So many people advised us to pass on newborn clothes and we did. However, Theron is a month old, nearly 10 pounds, and still too little for most of his 0-3 clothes. I wish we would have purchased more newborn sized items but I guess you live and learn.

15. Munchkin Disposable Pads. My best friend, Cori, had sent these to me as a recommendation to use on the changing pad cover. These have been wonderful for us. For a couple weeks, Theron would pee and poop every single time we changed him. The boy was super fond of his open air accidents. David and I found ourselves washing the two changing pad covers all of the time. With these disposable pads we can just place them directly on top of the covers and keep them safe from those accidents. The pads aren't super cheap but totally worth it.

16. Medela Lanolin. To help soothe my body during those first weeks of breastfeeding this cream was superb. I also used the Lansinoh version but the Medela version is so much softer and gentler. And since the main reason you're using it is for the sensitivity, this Medela version is a no-brainer.

My New Addiction

Well it seems as if I've found myself a new hobby. Since I can't very well shop for my own body at this stage of the game, I've resorted to buying stuff for our little guy on the way. As most of you know I take a weekly trip to two of my favorite thrift stores in the town I teach in. I used to search for home decor items and now I make a bee-line straight to the baby clothes. The past 4 weeks or so I think I've scored pretty big!

I've purchased numerous items from Baby Gap, Old Navy, Target, The Children's Place, and other brands I'm not so familiar with. Most of the stuff I buy is around $1 a piece and some I've even scored for about 50 cents a piece. Suh-weet!

I don't feel so bad that the total amount I've spent on baby T's hauls is less than what I would spend on just one or two pieces for myself.

While baby boy clothes certainly don't get as much attention as the little girl pieces, I thoroughly enjoy hunting for the really cute baby boy stuff! It's almost like a little game to me.

Now, if Baby boy comes out a she...well then "she's" going to be one heck of a tom-boy dressed in boy clothes and a pink bow. ; )

Still Addicted To Chevron

So it seems as if I can't keep from buying chevron printed items. Just when I thought I was so over it, Target comes out with some things that I felt like I had to have. You know the drill, right?

The other day my mom texted me an image of all these chevron storage bins and I immediately thought how great the large lidded one would look in the nursery.

She picked up the only one she saw and this weekend I picked up two more. They look great in the little dude's custom closet. : )

Next up I found these dishtowels. I always need something nice for when people are over to dry their hands in the bathroom and these fit the bill beautifully.

One of my students had a great pair of folders in class and of course, I had to go and get those too. Why I need folders is beyond me...we'll just say since I'm a teacher it makes sense. : )

Of course I didn't stop there...I saw this gold and cream chevron pillow online and found it at my local Target. It's pretty in person, a bit more champagne than gold, and for right now it's home is in our master bedroom on our new bench. I thought about using it on the glider in the nursery...who knows where its permanent home will be.

I didn't need any of these fun little finds but what's the fun in needing everything you buy? : )

Sweet Deal + Registry Help

Hey guys! Happy Thursday. Today I've got my big glucose test and I am hoping to pass. I've heard some pretty awful stories about the stuff they make you drink, but that's ok. I'm happy to get to do it. : )

Yesterday David and his dad painted the nursery, installed some custom closet shelving, and put the crib together. It's getting very real and just a little bit scary. Baby boy is coming in a few short months whether we're ready or not.

The other day while shopping at Home Goods, David and I found this adorable white giraffe lamp for only $30! It's the perfect addition to our whimsical nursery and we couldn't be more pleased to have purchased it.

We scored quite the deal since the Jonathan Adler version retails for nearly $400.

Oh, and this weekend David and I are planning to register. We're a little overwhelmed and could use any tips, tricks, or advice on baby items that you've loved or hated. We're all ears.

Another Master Bedroom Update

I know you guys are probably sick of my never-ending master bedroom additions. Each week it seems like I'm adding this and/or that. There are still a couple of things I need to do and share with all of you so I hope you'll stay tuned.

Ever since I decided to makeover the master bedroom {for the third or fourth time...it's a sickness I tell ya} I've wanted a Greek key throw for the end of the bed.

I saw one here and most recently at Furbish, but I wasn't sold on the over $100 price tag.

Even more recently I found another option that I loved but still couldn't bite the bullet and fork over $135 for the blanket.

Both throws are beautiful and so perfect for our space, but with two doggies that sleep with us I just could not justify the cost.

Enter this past weekend, I was shopping on Saturday during my family's annual all-day shopping extravaganza and found a perfect throw that mimics the feeling of the pricier version above.

I saw it at TJ Maxx and immediately scooped it up. I thank my mom for carrying it around for me since I've been put on doctor's orders to take it easy and discontinue carrying pretty much anything.

The throw is more of a quilt and only set me back $40! Hooray for a good deal. I almost feel like Sabrina Soto from The High-Low Project. {P.S. I've really been feeling her show lately!}

I'm really happy with the way it looks in our bedroom and I can't wait to make the other minor updates and blog about them very soon.

Tuesday Randoms

This weekend was wonderful! David and I got to see some friends that we don't see enough and that was just what we needed. Friday day + night exhausted me but the 12 hours of sleep I received made it better.

Saturday we we caught up with one of my dearest friends, Anna, at lunch at Steak N' Shake and then we did a little shopping at Target. We ventured to the little boy clothing section and picked up some digs for our baby boy. What a trip--it's still very surreal.

I also picked up this cute Kate Spade-esque bag for my school stuff.

Dave makes fun of me because I get a new school bag every year but I just can't seem to find the one. They're either too slouchy, too big, or something else that doesn't work for me. This was only $15 or so and I figured it couldn't hurt to try yet another option. I'm listing my former green school bag in the "for sale" {UPDATE--> It's been sold!} section of the blog if you're interested.

Saturday afternoon we stopped by our sister and brother-in-law's home and while Em and I chatted, Dave helped Tim and Dan replace some siding. We then rounded out the evening with a family dinner.

On Sunday I woke up at 5:30 a.m. and stayed awake...yikes. Where'd the old Joi go? I had energy nearly the entire day and Dave and I spent it completing errands and doing odds and ends.

I'm excited because today is my last day of school and then I'm off until next Monday. I'm very ready to put up our Christmas tree and get this holiday season a-movin'!

Pillow Pleasers

While in Kohl's the other day looking for a possible down comforter and pillow inserts, I ran across a couple decorative pillows that I was really digging. The first find is from the Jennifer Lopez collection.

Dave mentioned that he thinks it's funny when celebrities have fashion lines in places they would never shop. I think it's sometimes odd, too. But whatever makes them their cash money is fine and dandy with me.

I thought the prices of her collection were quite spendy, but knowing Kohl's, they will be continually heavily discounted to make you think you're getting a deal. Sneaky sneaky.

JLo has Greek key Euro shams that I'm also a fan of as well. The other pillow that I liked was this lumbar pillow from the Sonoma line. It was embroidered and really pretty. I was drawn to the geometric Southwestern vibe and neutral colors.

I've loved this bow pillow from Etsy seller Iviemade for what seems like forever. That mustard yellow color is so yummy to me.

I have no place for it in my home, but maybe some of you do!

Another fun pillow option comes straight from PB Teen. This little lumbar pillow sports a fun color scheme and would look divine in my living room but I am resisting.

I'm a bigger fan of the cooler toned option in the back, but both are quite lovely. : )

It's Friday!

Wahoo! It's the weekend....almost. I know I said I'd be better at blogging soon, but I promise it's coming. I'm finally feeling like I'm in a routine so more posts are in the line-up. I am really enjoying my classes this year, and so far, my students have been great kiddos. As many teachers know, this early stage is the "honeymoon phase" so things could always change. I'm staying positive though because I believe they'll continue to be great and impress me. : )

This Friday I'm leaving you guys with images that make my heart smile. I seriously have some of the best people in my life. One of my best friends, Cori, sent me this adorable card and sugar skull image for my birthday.

She saw it on my pinterest months ago and bought it for me. When I opened it I almost cried. What a thoughtful gift. Who doesn't love a surprise gift in the mail from a dear friend? Definitely one of the highlights of my week.

This past weekend my mom and I treated Maw Maw to her very first hour long massage and pedicure for her birthday. She absolutely loved it and that made me so happy. Maw Maw deserves the best and I'm glad she got to feel completely pampered.

While Maw Maw was getting the special treatment my mom and I took a trip to Target. I spotted these faux bois over-sized pillows and almost made a pair of them mine.

I was thinking I could use them on our new bed. Ultimately I left them there because they just weren't fluffy enough for me. Maybe they'd be better suited to a sofa set-up. I think they're a great accent choice!

And finally, I snapped this picture of Scoutie Bear waiting for her Daddy to get home. She sits on the couch the entire evening until he walks in the door. To say she is obsessed with David is an understatement.

I am so glad we rescued this sweet pup. We fall more and more in love with her everyday!

Las Vegas Loot

I wish I could say that my loot was lots and lots of dough, but alas, I won a mere $13 and then spent it trying to win more. Oh well! I came back even -steven so all's well that ends well.

What's even better is that I scored lots of fun clothing items and had money left over in my vaca budget. You can bet I was excited, even if it was just a couple of bucks to the positive.

My first score was this pair of banana scented hair products from The Body Shop. I randomly stopped in here to pick up some body scrub {which I forgot to photograph} and fell in love with the banana scent. We used to have a Body Shop in our local mall but it was replaced. I guess not having it made me miss it!

I find it kind of funny that I came home with four pairs of shoes. I had all along planned on buying the Tory Burch flats, but the others were random finds. The black wedges were on sale for $14.99 from Target, the super fun glitter flats were from Payless, and the Vans were from the Vans' store. I had been meaning on purchasing the Vans online for sometime but never did. When I saw a specialized Vans store, I knew I had to have my new kicks!

While we were at the Fashion Show mall I spent a large amount of time in the ginormous Forever 21. I tried on what seemed like a bazillion items but only came home with this southwestern inspired t-shirt and this pastel sheer top.

On the day we went to Hoover Dam we also stopped by a TJ Maxx and a Fashion Bug. What I find so stinking cute is that Maw Maw and I bought the same shirts. She's one cute chick. I tried to get her to wear hers on the same day as me but she wasn't game. Oh well! ; )

I wore this little number just the other day going out to eat with two of my most favorite ladies in all the world. I paired it with a leopard belt and I really liked it. I'm branching out, folks!

I also picked up this cute striped dress! It's one of those items that you think won't fit, but then surprisingly, it does! Woohoo! I think it's so cute!

I actually wore it the other day to work registration at school. It's extra comfortable and I'm glad I spotted it.

While at the Fashion Show mall we stopped in Dillard's and I fell in love with this zippered dress. It's a little more than I'm used to spending, but I loved it. I'm making it my first day of school dress. I wish I could say that I was impressed with the customer service I received in Dillard's but it was way less than sub-par. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I mean, hello...it's Dillard's, not Rodeo Drive.

And finally, I scored this bold dress from one of our hotel's boutiques.

It caught my eye on one of the first days but I never tried it on. I really knew I wanted it when I spotted a lady wearing it a few days later. I went back and tried it on {twice to really make sure and loved it}. Thanks to my twitter friends for lending me your opinion when I twitpic'd this!

I know it's kinda crazy but I just really dig it. I think I'm going to wear it on mine and my guy's 6 year anniversary dinner that is just right around the corner. ♥

I am super pleased with my finds and am still glad that these additions didn't put my suitcase over the weight limit. Phew!

Friday Randoms

Well, in just a couple of hours my mom, maw maw, and I are to embark on our way out to Las Vegas! The posting might be a little minimal around here until I return...I am trying to get the Mr. to post so we will see if he obliges.

Before I leave I wanted to share with you two great finds I picked up for this trip. And, the lazy me again only has cell phone pics. Don't be mad. You aren't, right? Those cell phone cams are just too darn convenient! : )

First, I picked up this huge makeup bag from TJ Maxx for $8.00! I am using it to carry on some makeup and my brushes just in case! I love the ikat/chevron goodness. Yum.

I also have been meaning to share this find for quite sometime now! I wanted a cross-body bag for Vegas and I did a lot of searching in stores and online for the perfect choice. I came across this vintage Louis Vuitton Saint Cloud bag and I made her mine.

She's the perfect size and will allow me to have my hands free while I'm strolling the strip and doing the tourist thing.

Finally {and this really has nothing to do with Vegas}, I scooped up this random scarf from Old Navy. The pic doesn't show how it has the prettiest gold shimmer to it, but trust me, it does.

I bought this from the sale rack and plan to use it to sew a cover for the bolster pillow that will go on our bed {remember the one I told you we just bought?}. I never expected to find such a pretty fabric at Old Navy of all places! That just goes to show you to always think outside the box. My mom doesn't know it yet, but she's going to be helping me with this little project. I found an easy tutorial that I think we can tackle together here. Thanks in advance, mom!

Happy To Sad And Back To Happy Again

Phew...exhausted yet? I went through a range of emotions yesterday. It wasn't the end of the world, but I got really bummed when Dave and I made the trek out to Calico Corners and I found the Vienna Flower fabric. It was too beige, too muted, and too boring. Sad face for sure.

I thought maybe my computer screen had led me astray and almost gave up on finding the fabric, as I thought it only came in two colorways.

When we returned home I couldn't get over how the differences were so strong and went back to researching the fabric. The magazine's colorway was so vibrant and had indigos and purples and the Calico Corner version did not.

I came upon this site and copied and pasted the fabric info and it took me to the actual site where the designer ordered the fabric used in the room.

Turns out, my eyes weren't fooling me and neither was my screen. I about jumped up and down for finding it! You can bet that I was convinced I needed it. When you can't get something out of your mind you just know, yaknow? ; )

Plus, I became absolutely entranced in this video of the behind the scenes makeover story. I am in LOVE with it all. I feel like that master bedroom + bathroom is pretty near perfection. Designer Cameron MacNeil hit this one out of the park!!

And, I would just like to say that House and Home knows how to inspire and keep readers interested! Their magazine is beyond fabulous and their website is even more helpful. I am smitten.

Fun Finds: TJ Maxx/Marshall's Style

The other day I got to shop for a few hours all by myself. That hardly ever happens and it was quite a nice little shift from the usual! I got to try on all the clothes I wanted and actually looked with a purpose at the clothing section of TJ Maxx and Marshall's.

Most times it is too overwhelming for me and I skip it all together so that the person {most likely David ; )} who I am with doesn't get even more bored--haha.

I did pick up a couple of cute items for summer and managed to save some pennies while I was at it!

I got this little sheer tank and fun sun dress for less than thirty bucks! I really like the cut of the sundress because it is super flattering. There were more colors and I almost added those to my basket but I exhibited some self control. It does happen from time to time.

I was super happy to pick up these square toed leopard print flats by Jessica Simpson.

My leopard obsession is still going strong and these are sure to make all of my outfits just a little more fun! And, since Scoutie Bear loves chewing on my current pair of leopard flats it was definitely time for a replacement. It's funny because she doesn't bother any of my other shoes so Dave and I joke that she must be a fan of leopard prints, too! Plus, the square toe makes me feel like I'm wearing pointe shoes....I never did get that far in ballet. Sorry, mom!

The thank you cards had me at hello with their vintage vibe floral print and for $1.99 I couldn't pass them up!

Thrifty Thursday

Some people indulge in Thirsty Thursday and well I...I indulge in Thrifty Thursday!

Haha...I love how I can make any of my posts center around thrifting. Hope you guys don't mind too much. I've scored a lot of great deals lately and I want to share them all with you!

I scored the glasses set and brass cup at an Antique Mall in Southern Illinois when we were in town for my family reunion. I politely asked my family to make a pit stop and they all obliged {love them!}.

The Asian lady was a Brown Elephant $2.00 find from Chicago and I picked it up because it reminded me of my late grandmother who was Japanese. She was the sweetest and funniest lady you ever did know. I miss her sweet tea, silliness, and love.

I scored the greek key {I may be obsessed with this pattern} picture frame from Goodwill on a random trip. I very recently bought the wicker glasses, small gold and black etched bowl from Thailand {it's stunning!}, and elephant planter from a local brick and mortar flea market! I was so happy to find this place and hope they keep the good stuff coming.

I can't wait to share how I use all of these finds {or if I make plans to sell!} in the coming future.

Fun Finds: Goodwill Gems + DIY Bracelet

The other day one of my dear friends, Anna, and I met for brunch and some shopping! We took over the flea market and thrift shops in town and Anna scooped up some great pieces for her home. {Ahem...she should post about them! ; ) }

While at the Goodwill I picked up two great little staples! First up, I grabbed these never-been-worn Target semi-flats:

They are the perfect little flat with just a hint of a baby wedge to keep things interesting. I really like the gun metal color and the fact that they were just $3.oo. Which I guess wasn't even really a factor since I was rocking a gift certificate. Hooray.

While at the register I spotted this Kenneth Cole link bracelet and made it mine as well.

I am really digging bracelets right now. It's kind of weird because I've never been a bracelet type of girl. I surprise myself daily.

And to add to my growing bracelet collection, I finally made this DIY hexagon bracelet I saw Michelle talk about on her blog not too long ago. All the supplies you'll need {plus maybe a little bit --scratch that-- a lot of dexterity in your fingers}:

I'm usually a pretty good DIYer but this little braid and thread design had me almost throw in the towel. It's a good thing I'm not a quitter.

That's right. I'm wearing three bracelets + a white watch up there. Too much you say? Never. I might as well dub this summer as the "summer of the bang and bracelet". I've brought both things back into my life like it's 1998. It does have a nice ring to it, dontcha think?
