Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews Reviews In Progress

>> Sunday, May 29, 2011

First I am clearing my calender and reading Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, Book 5) as soon as it is delivered to my Kindle on May 31st. I have never been disappointed in a Kate Daniels book and I just can't wait to read it!

I have been sick so I picked up Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs to get my mind off of how awful I was feeling. It worked and I hope to work on a review for this book sometime this week.

I never got around to writing a review for Bayou Moon (The Edge, Book 2) so the plan is with three days off to get this one finished as well. I can tell you it was a great book and worth the buy just as Silver Borne was.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say anything by Ilona Andrews is worth the dollars spent. You just can't go wrong with a Kate Daniels book.

Oh and don't forget to visit my little sisters blog Oh My Goddess, Are You Stalking Me. She has been allowing me to use some of her great reviews to keep this blog going when I am super busy with other things. Thanks!

Quick Update

>> Thursday, February 17, 2011

I am so happy to have a schedule change that I just can't say it enough. Thanks to Larhonda a coworker who switched shifts with me I can now live my life on one shift. I will have to give up my Saturdays but at least I will feel human again.

I have decided once again to make some changes here. I am not sure exactly what they will be but I am going to work at getting posts scheduled even if it is just a mini review for a short story. My goal would be at least 2 posts a week. I have a few things going on and I really want to keep this blog up and running. I would like to get enough scheduled posts and run them on the same day each week.

Now that I work on Saturdays I can pick up quite a few shifts during the week and other projects and temp jobs. I could use the money because I really want to save more so we can move to a country lot just outside of the city. We have been saving for quite some time but we would like to sell our duplex first. I do have to say the more shifts I take the less reading I get to do. That means less blogging so I really need to learn to organize my time so I can maximize my productivity. Believe it or not I used to do that well I don't know how I lost that skill but I know I can get there again.

So expect some sort of review weekly for now until I get this all worked out.

If anyone would like to do a guest post here I would love that. It just has to be a supernatural related post email me your ideas sundcarrie@yahoo.com

On My Reading and Review List

>> Thursday, February 3, 2011

I am really behind on this blog so I thought I would give you a quick update. I still have one more book review and a few short stories in my Ilona Andrews series.
On the Edge (The Edge, Book 1)
Must Love Hellhounds (Story from Kate Daniels Series)
Dark and Stormy Knights (Another short story)

I am also reading Ravena & The Resurrected by Tami Jackson. I am having a little trouble reading this because I downloaded it into an adobe file. I thought with all the reading I do on a computer that would make it as easy as reading a paper copy of the book. Somehow I like the hard copy better. Just so you know it is not the book itself it is reading on the computer screen for too long. I need to take breaks like I do when I am reading blogs. Tami Jackson will also have a guest post on this blog I am really excited about it!

Next on my list is a book I forgot I had Learning to Stand by Claudia Hall Christian. I knew I had it at one time and because I couldn't find it I actually thought I dreamed that I had it. When I found it I remember saying if I put it in my bedroom it won't get mixed in with all the other books. This was one of those times where you put something somewhere safe so you don't loose it yet it is the last place you would actually look for that particular item. I never get tired of reading Claudia's work she is a master when it comes to creating amazing characters.

Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson) by Patricia Briggs is next on my list. I can't wait to see what happens next in this series. I just have too many books I want to read and I will never loose any of this weight if I sit around and read all day.

Can't Wait to Read More!

>> Sunday, April 18, 2010

Well things have not quite turned out as planned. I have to work three days for the next two weeks and I have loads of other things to do at home. I have a garden to get ready and a bunch of spring yard-work to do not to mention spring cleaning. I am trying really hard to loose weight there is an update here on my other blog. I do tend to have a lot of trouble managing my time.

Also I have been carving a little time out to read the articles on Your Dark Passenger this month. I would love to hear your reactions on her posts on Spiritual Gifts that are similar or overlap with Psychic Gifts. I am sure that Jen would love to hear from you too.

Soon I will have more time to read and I actually think things will run more smoothly for me when I get to spend a few hours reading a book, a real solid book instead of an audio book. I love audio-books but it is not really the same when I have the free time I do love to actually sit in my over-sized chair and get lost in another world.

Book Reviews Will Be A Top Priority This Weekend

>> Thursday, February 11, 2010

So sorry everyone that I have not placed a huge priority on book reviews like I should have this week. I have been working on promoting both my blogs and have had a lot to say on my personal blog Sexy For Life. Please visit and let me know what you think. I have been focusing on my weight loss plan and living a much more relaxed life. I am trying not to worry about everything and make good decisions daily and that is a lot harder than it sounds. Once you have started making impulsive decisions it is hard to remember to stop and think about everything you do. I am starting with what I eat and what I spend.

I am going to keep a fund each month for books since that is something I really enjoy but I am going to be choosy and try to get through what I have before buying anything new except to finish a series I already started. I am usually not super impulsive with money so that is not going to be a hard one for me my two main impulsive buys are for books and at the grocery store.

I have spent a lot of time tracking my diet over the last two weeks and I am doing well but I always have trouble when I am not at home and there is food. So this is something I am struggling with right now.

I will work over the weekend to get the review for The Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison posted. I will hopefully have White Witch Black Curse also by Kim Harrison up shortly after that. Thank you for your patience as I work through my life issues.

Feeling Better

>> Sunday, January 31, 2010

Well I started yesterday off feeling better but my heater was broken and within a few hours I was feeling like my house was a sauna. We have had issues with it for a while but usually it will get stuck off and that is easier to handle for me. I am still not sure it is fixed but at least it is not 85 degrees in here anymore. I couldn't work out in the heat and I am not sure it is cooling off this morning I turned the heat down but it seems to keep getting warmer. I will make a call to my step-dad/landlord if it keeps getting hotter but before it hits the 80's again. I need to get some house work done too but the really awesome thing is that I have 4 books done and ready to review.

Thanks to my friend Kristin, that I met last semester in college I borrowed and read three more of the books in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. I now have books 5-7 read and I have Celia's Puppies read too. I am also hoping that the new book by Kim Harrison due out on February 23 will be released on audio right away. I have been on the treadmill a lot and it is much easier to listen than to read on the treadmill. The Kim Harrison books have a lot of thought in them and the story line is still very interesting and I really like how the characters grow. I will have some reviews up soon.

Upcoming Reviews

>> Wednesday, January 6, 2010

I have three reviews to do. Over the last few days I didn't feel so well so I got some reading done. Finished Every Which Way But Dead and A Fistful of Charms books three and four in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. Click on the titles to see the previous reviews Dead Witch Walking and The Good The Bad and The Undead. These books just keep getting better and as soon as I feel good for more than a few hours I will be posting the reviews plus I still need to get one up for Dead and Gone. I am all out of Hollows books but there are at least three more plus one that can be pre-ordered.

I have to save some money so I will just have to read some of my already purchased books before I continue on in this series. I only have two series that I am dying to read the next one and will stop everything for right now. That would be the Mercy Thompson series and the Kate Daniels series.

Celia's Puppies Comming Soon!

>> Sunday, December 13, 2009

I should be getting a copy of Celia's Puppies soon. It is the second installment of the Denver Cereal by Claudia Hall Christian. I have to say she is one of my FAVORITE authors. You can take a look here at The Denver Cereal website and The Fey is great as well. I am so excited to read the new book.

I am just about done with school and then I will go back to work part time and work on my writing on my days off. I am going to make a plan to get something published before I decide on going back to school. I have talked to a lot of people and decided that spending 12000 dollars or more a year to get another degree might not be worth it. It is not what makes you a good writer and it will not cause a publishing company to consider your work over someone who has no credentials but writes well. So I am going to learn more on my own about writing well.

I also have a review in progress on the last House of Night book
Tempted.

Reading the 4th Cassandra Palmer Book

>> Sunday, November 8, 2009

I am reading Curse the Dawn by Karen Chance. I only have one day of classes this week so I should be able to finish the book. I also listened to one of the stories in My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding. It was a fun story but I think I will have to break it up into a few short story reviews at a time. This is my first book of this nature and I am not sure how to review it.

I love the Cassandra Palmer novels and I hope this one is as good as the last. I didn't see anymore on Amazon either. I went through my books on Friday and organized them so I could read what I have (30 books) in some sort of orderly fashion. I will start by finishing the books in that I have in a series. I will not start a new series until those are done unless I choose a new series from audible. I have found that I have a hard copy of some of the books that I had wanted to get on audible. That would just be a waste of money so I have decided against that. I already have Witchling on audio and in book same with one of the books in the Hallows series. So I am thinking my next two credits will be Tempted the latest House of Night book and the second book in the Alpha and Omega Series by Patricia Briggs but I can decide on that later.

I will have a full month off of school after December 11th with almost nothing to worry about. I am sure I can snuff out at least four or five more books in that time. I am also taking the summer off for sure. I will work part time and have nothing else major to do but read and clean the house.

Should Have Some Time to Read Some Dark Novels

>> Wednesday, November 4, 2009

I have loads of home work but I have quite a bit of time off. From now through next week I have only one day of school. If I organize my time wisely I should be able to get a book read or listened to. I might be able to read one and listen to one if I pick short ones.

I am compiling a list of books to download from audible. I was going to do one nonfiction book and one fiction book to keep variety but I have changed my mind. I read enough nonfiction in school these days. I have a subscription at audible and I get two credits for 23 dollars a month. I still prefer to read but I have been able to listen to good books and accomplish much of my housework as well as run errands and walk the dog.

I didn't finish Moby Dick but I did get about two thirds of the way through, since I have all weekend to finish it I will most likely take Thursday off to work on other homework. This was not one of those books I should have procrastinated on reading. It is a difficult and sometimes very dull read. I have to say thought sometimes I just love reading or listening to it other times I can't focus on it at all. If this is a pattern in Melville's writing I will not be reading much more of his work.

I plan to get the latest House of Night book as soon as I get my next audible credits which should be in the middle of this month. If this one is as bad as the last one it will be my last in this series. I will have one more credit and I am debating on one of the Southern Vampire mysteries, I have read seven of them and I own book eight so I might read that. The other two are the third book in the Hallows series by Kim Harrison and the second book in the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs.

I really want to read more dark novels but with all the reading I have to do for school I am not motivated to read in my spare time. I only have six more class days over the next four weeks so I should be able to get at least a few good books in. I won't promise you anything other than I will try to have at least one dark novel review posted this month.

Now December is another story! I have no classes after December 9th and everything is due by the 11 then I don't have class for a month. I will only have two classes next semester and I will be going back to work but not until March. I should have a lot of reading time, now that I have my heated lazy-boy chair, I can stock up on hot chocolate and read for hours. I am really excited about the whole month to do just that. That is probably the sign that I am truly a nerd but who cares I love to loose myself in a book.

Good Day Turns Bad

>> Wednesday, October 28, 2009

I was having a good day today, then I got my Poe paper back. I got a C+ before the extra credit that takes it to a B. I worked so hard on that paper, I was in tears when I asked about scheduling an appointment with the professor to help me with my writing. I am about to cry now. I am starting to feel like a fish out of water. My college experience is not helping me with my switch in major. The teachers expect something different.

I am reconsidering going full time next semester. I may have to spend a lot of extra time learning about different writing styles. My professor did say that writing in the health and humanities college is not the same. He said he would be happy to help me so at least that is good. I have already had to do a lot of extra reading to help me understand my text books.

I did have a positive meeting with one of my other professors, she said I was doing well and she was also very willing to help if I get stuck. I am really feeling like I am in over my head. When I registered for this semester I was told that if I shouldn't have any trouble changing from The College of Health and Human Services with a BA in Social Work to The College of Arts and Science for a degree in English. I graduated with a 3.8 grade point average.

I am not going to give up but I may have to slow the process down a bit more than I would like. I don't get bad grades this is not acceptable to me. This will lower my GPA. I have to get A's on my last two assignments.

I am also going to have to work on my portfolio for my Creative Writing class and give it to him for review so I can figure out how I am doing.

So if I am not around for a while I am working on school work. I am so disappointed I am going to have to focus, focus, focus.

I do intend to get 2 more Poe posts up by the 31st.

Addicted to Podcasts; Too Much Multitasking is Driving me Insane

>> Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Well I love the Grammar Girl podcast and the Dave Ramsey Show podcast as well as Mark Gungor and Debbie Chavez on the Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage podcast. I have found a few others that I like as well. I have found some on mythology but they require some concentration on my part so I have not really listened to them. Most of the ones I listen to I have some prior knowledge of or know the style of the speakers so I can fill in the gaps. I just don't really miss much if I have to pay more attention to the road or the dishwasher.

So anyone know of a good book review podcast or a dark fiction or poetry podcast? I have yet to run across anything like that yet. I have not looked that hard because I don't want to use my time that I should be working on school work listening to podcasts.

I have to write a paper on three Poe killers today. I want it perfect so I have read the stories and several commentaries and essays on each story. I know a lot of what I want it to say but I am having trouble with organizing. I suppose if I just start typing I can copy and paste until it means something to the professor. It will be a challenge thought because I hear he tends to like it to read like an essay without the use of "I".

At least this paper will be fun; this weekend I have to read Moby Dick. Will someone please tell me it gets better after the first chapter??!! I have tried reading and listening to this book but it just so hard to get past the first ten pages. In the Scarlett Letter I thought I was doomed until I finished the Custom House even Walden becomes an easier read after the Economy the first and very long chapter.

I have a great story to tell about yesterday and why I have to do all my homework today! I was in my first class of the day. I have three classes they are on Mondays and Wednesdays only. I didn't feel great in the morning but I proceeded to get on the treadmill and go on like nothing was wrong. It was not like I was really sick I just felt kind of disconnected, I thought it was because I got up early. So I am sitting in class and I realize I can't see the professors face. At this point I know it is a migraine but the auras are usually not that bad for me. I couldn't see the lines on the paper I was writing on and eventually I stopped trying to concentrate it was making me feel like I would pass out. By the end of class I could see again but I felt dizzy and out of it. I couldn't drive so I went to get something to eat and while I am standing in line my face starts to feel numb. I went to the salad place only because it had the shortest line. Once I sat down my left hand and forearm start to go numb. This is bad because I am left handed and it is always scary when body parts loose feeling for no apparent reason.

So sit and eat very slowly until the symptoms go away. I have no medicine with me so all I can do is wait. I usually have time from the onset of symptoms to the headache. I was lucky and this time the symptoms stopped long enough for me to get to my car (you don't get to park near buildings on campus) but as I was driving home the headache was getting worse. I drove slow in case I needed to pull over. When I got home I took 2 Tylenol 3 I had from my last surgery because I couldn't find my other medicine. I went to bed and got up around 4 still with a headache but not nearly as bad. I was wiped out still from the whole thing. I missed my last two classes and I was not really happy about it. I had to try not to stress out about it because it would not help the remaining headache.

I just have to hope I didn't miss too much, I NEVER miss class. Just like I never miss work even if it takes me getting towed in. I just don't like to feel irresponsible. Most teachers allow 1-3 missed classes and I suppose that is what these days are for. I still don't like to miss.

Well now I have loads of work to do so I must leave now.
I love comments!!! Later this week I will pose some questions about the direction this blog is taking! I am not able to read a Dark Novel each week so I want to ask my readers what they might be interested in hearing about. Maybe some dark short stories or poems. That I could take a lot less time reading and could post short excerpts.

So Busy With School

>> Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Monday was my first day of school. I got there very early to make sure I could find my first class and found out the University doesn't have enough parking spaces for all the commuter students. So I felt I couldn't leave like I planned during the two hour break I have. I now know I have to go early and stay all day, so I purchased a meal plan and I will be wearing tennis shoes most of the time so I can walk on nice days. I will be buying more audio books as well unless I can find a quite place to read.

I can put the audio books on my iPod and listen to them just about anywhere but there is a lot of chatter in most of the areas for sitting on campus. With the audio books I can walk to the far dining hall and get exercise while listening to a book to review for my blog.

Right now I am working on listening to The Good the Bad and the Undead by Kim Harrison. I am also going to take a book to read in case I can find a quiet place to read. I have at least three hours of non-class time each day. Eating only takes a half hour tops. Then I have no issues reading most text but I have to be at home quiet and comfortable to read the text for my last class. It is hard to read, boring as boring can be and written by people who like to use big words and talk in circles.

I will have a lot of school work but all my classes have a lot of reading and writing so I may post my thoughts about my classes here as well. I think I am really going to enjoy my Literature class (American Romanticism) and my Creative Writing class. I also have Current Writing Theory and I believe I will learn a lot in the class but I don't think it will be much fun.

So you will have to bear with me as the book reviews will be slow, I will try to fill in some of the days with, creative writing and discussions on the material I read in my Literature class.

By the way all my teachers seem awesome, I can't be sure but they seem to want to help you learn. Some of my least favorite classes I have done well in because of good teachers. As long as I have good teachers I can pass any class.

Will Someone Please Shoot Me!

>> Thursday, August 6, 2009

Well I am going to start with the bad day I had today. For those of you who read my blog regularly I had a sewer line in my duplex backed up on July 22 and today my tenant calls me in the afternoon to tell me it is backed up again. So I call Rotary Man back to let them know and they won't warranty a job done 15 days ago. They said they can't because it is rental property and I don't know what they put down there. How is that different from what I could have put down my home drain?????? I am one of those people that cry when they get angry and I believe it has been a good thing at times and kept me from being able to say what I wanted to. It is a really bad thing when you are trying to get your money back or get someone to come back and complete a half-assed job.

Today I was working on catching up on message boards and going to take the dog to the vet and work on getting my blog posts on the Patrician Briggs books I finished. Well I had to cancel everything and was late for small group. I was not happy to pay another 200 dollars (210 for the crappy job) and I still have to pay more for a scope to be run because there may be something broken. At least I am reasonably sure I can trust the new company because they have a much higher lower rate of complaints on the Better Business Bureau's website. I also know the owners because my step-dad works on all their vehicles and I did all the paperwork for that until a few weeks ago.

Other than that I did have a wonderful week. Loads of fund time with my husband and have been working out everyday except today. I also joined Weight Watchers and am doing well with that except I eat when I am stressed so I had one piece of pizza tonight at group. I had been saving my extra 35 points for a party this weekend but if I must I will eat before.

I got my first Recruit for my business and I have had quite a few RSVP'S for my Open House.

Tomorrow I have a Weight Watchers meeting and hopefully a date with my husband. I also need to pay my over 3000 dollar bill for school by the 14th so I have to talk to my husband about that. We will either have to take it out of our saving for a house fund which won't last long but at least we don't have to pay interest on that or take the federal loan at 6% interest. I think that he will decide that I will make more money when I am done so we can worry about a house then but I would rather ask than assume I know what he is thinking.

I have reinstated my quiet time with God and that has helped immensely with my stress level and getting things done. My house is in much better order and I was doing very well until today. I was caught up and ready to get more done. For those of you that pray, please pray for me to not get to discouraged as I hit these road blocks in my life.
Thanks

My update!

>> Thursday, July 30, 2009

I hate to even say this but it looks like things are about to be calm for me the next three weeks. I have several reviews in the works. I wrote a ton of notes on Cry Wolf and Iron Kissed while I waited for my consistently late Doctor for the xray thing I had to have last Friday. The doctor was only an hour late, which is good for her. All is fine there, they had to make sure my tubes were blocked and I couldn't get pregnant.

The notes are pen and paper notes so I now have to go through them and make them into a good review. My wonderful husband also downloaded the audio version of Bone Crossed so I have completed the existing books in the Mercy Thompson series. I really love that series and hope there is more to come. Mercy is one of the best heroines that I have seen in such a series.

I have a few more audio books now to work on getting through because I can listen to them while I work out and while I clean. I can also take them places like the doctor's office where I will have long boring wait. They tend to be expensive thought so I for now I will finish what I have and see where finances are after I start school.

If you have time don't forget to visit my new blog that shares romance tips and products. There is a link to my business website there and if you like the products you can order them direct. I would love your business. Thanks.

Just when you think you have time to relax....

>> Wednesday, July 22, 2009

You take on a new job. Your rental property has a sewer line back up and you have to go back to the doctor. Well I guess it is a good thing I quit my real job and took on a work when you want to job.

I don't really want to complain things could be a lot worse. I just wanted to get this blog and my other blog up to par. I have only done one book review and nothing else really but a few updates.

I thought I had tomorrow to do more but now I have to clean up a yucky mess in the basement of our duplex. It was also super expensive! It doesn't help that I have not seen any money not a dollar since May 15th. I won't get paid from the government until August 1 but then I will get a regular check.

Okay that is enough I am going to go find my bible study book and try to focus on something positive. I could have it much worse and I know it. I will just have to budget my time more wisely.

Back to Blogging

>> Tuesday, July 14, 2009

First I want to say thanks to the people who visit my blog all the time. I will soon have time to write more reviews and the other stuff that makes my blog interesting. I am going to try to work a little on my creative writing too. I will post some here and others at the associated content site.
I am determined to get this stuff done, but it seems every time I get back into the groove something else happens. I am thinking I will start thinking of my writing as a job and sit down for a few hours every day and work on something writing related.

I am so glad to be done with the inspection on my duplex. All is fixed and the inspection passed so I have a new tenant. We will get our rent money every month from the government for a year. It will take a few months to make up for all the repair costs but it is worth it. That also means we don't have a lot to do to accept Section 8 in the lower unit. It would be nice to have the money every month. The lower unit is occupied but they don't always pay on time, I really hope they can get some assistance as well, they are good people.

I have a Pure Romance party tonight and I am working on getting the house cleaner, which is not so hard when you have been keeping up on it. I actually can't wait I usually get out of the house once a week to meet with friends. We call it small group, and we talk about our weeks and what we need prayer for. Some of the ladies are going to be here tonight. I don't get to hang out much although that may change until I finish school. As long as I can manage it I am just going to take classes on two days a week. I love my husband but it is really nice to have other women to talk to.

I will have 2 credits on Audible next week and I will be buying Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs so I can catch up with the Mercy Thompson series. I started another book but I can't get my mind off that one. I have also been listening to The Scarlet Letter and I am sorry but at least the first few chapters are boring. I suppose it doesn't help that I listen late at night.

I have been a little bad finding time to catch up on a few supernatural series. I won Blood Ties Season One in a blog contest and quickly got addicted. I also am getting Supernatural from Netflix to watch while on the boring treadmill. I really like this series and my husband seems to enjoy it as well. We just finished season one I think I will probably do a post on these two programs. I also caught up on Medium just before I quit my job and I have a lot to say about that show so I am sure to do a post on that.

Took a Few Days Off to Read

>> Saturday, July 4, 2009

I read two books in the last three days and started another one. I have been reading Patricia Briggs. Last week I finished Cry Wolf (audio book) and have now read the Blood Bound and Iron Kissed. Click here for my review of Moon Called.

Moon Called is the First book in the Mercy Thompson series the next two books are Blood Bound and Iron Kissed. I flew through these books and wanted to get Bone Crossed but it is only available in hard cover and it is expensive. There is a glitch in my audible account that says I don't have an account and they won't be in until Monday. I am tempted to open another account because I enjoyed the books so much I can't wait to read another one. So instead I picked up At Graves End Jeaniene Frost.

I also loved cry wolf, I have the book and the audio version. I didn't realize until I started reading it so many of the characters sounded familiar because it is the pack of Wolves that Mercy's mother sent her to be raised. I will have reviews for each book soon but overall I would recommend this series. Mercy is actually a coyote she was born not made and she has no significant power, like the werewolves or vampires. I like her and I love the two wolves she is torn between.

I have a party to go to today so I don't see the reviews starting until tomorrow. I really do just feel like curling up on the couch for a week and reading from the time I get up until the time I go to bed. I can get away with that a few days but my house needs cleaned and I have other things that need done, such as a few reviews before I forget the details of the books.

I have to add that I will be trying to use more key words in my titles and posts so please bear with me if some of them sound a little silly. I want to drive more traffic to my site. I would also love to link to any bloggers who have a link to me. Let me know if you have a link and I will link to you. I am going to spend some of next week trying to organize my links., they are kind of a mess right now.

Hopefully the spell check gets most of that. I think I had better get to reading and put down the video games if I ever hope to get through all of these books.
