Altering wood pieces Tutorial (My Creative Sketches)

The kits at My Creative Sketches are always full of an assortment of incredible embellishments.  The November Main Kit has some fabulous wood pieces from Dear Lizzy.  Today I am sharing how I altered a few of those pieces!
*reminder* just click on the photo to enlarge!
The first one I chose is the word "love."  I started by applying ink directly to the wood. Although I will be adding glitter, I don't want white showing through.

Next, I applied a generous coat of Ranger Glossy Accents.
While the Glossy Accents was still wet, I covered the piece in copper glitter. Set aside to dry.  I love the shimmery glitter affect but we all know how glitter seems to go on and on now matter how much we clean.  My solution....once the glitter had dried I applied another coat of glossy accents.  Not only does it keep the glitter in place, it adds a fun glassy look!

For my second piece, I grabbed the heart.  I started by applying a quick coat of gesso.
Once dry, I brushed Vintage Photo Distress ink to the edges using a dauber. When wet, the ink will bleed, contributing to the aged, distressed look I am hoping to achieve.
Next, I applied regular embossing ink directly to the wood, and then a generous coat of UTEE Embossing powder.  (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel)
Heat embossing powder.   I repeated the embossing ink and UTEE process 3 times. ( By adding three layers, it created a thick coat in which I could create a good impression with a stamp.)  After heating the last layer of embossing powder immediately press your stamp into the UTEE while it  is still warm.  I did not to add ink to my stamp as it was the flourish impression I was after.
Here is the impression!  I used a Prima stamp from a previous My Creative Scrapbook kit.
To distress my image, I covered it entirely with black paint, making sure to get into all the crevices.
Before the paint dries, wipe the paint back off.  The paint will remain in the impression creating a distressed look, and enhancing the details.
Here you can see both the sentiment and heart being used on my layout

Lastly, I chose an arrow.  I started by adding gray and Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges and filling in sporadically. By using Distress Ink, the inks will bleed when wet, adding to the distressed look.
Next, I lightly dry brushed gesso here and there.
I applied embossing ink directly to the wood on the edges and in random area.  While still wet, I added Ranger Distress Embossing Powder.  Heat.
Adding to the rustic look, I added a generous coat of Ranger Crackle Accents.  Once completely dry, I rubbed ink into the cracked crevices.  The Accents also enhanced the colors of the inks and embossing powder!
I love how this one turned out!  It is the perfect touch for my masculine page!

If you are joining me from Leah’s blog, you are right on track. To start at the beginning go to the PaperHaus blog

I've got Spring Fever and decided this was the perfect opportunity to create a fun springy card using my dies from Cheery Lynn Designs.

I started by cutting the Little Pink Bicycle twice and piecing the parts together. The flowers in the basket are from Build a Flower Embellishment #2. The Grass Border is layered twice, with the bike tucked between the layers. I inked the background onto a Classic Oval Silver Stacker, layering it atop the Scalloped Oval Stacker Nesting die. Of course we need a couple Mini Dimensional Butterflies! The Swedish Spring Oval Frame has the perfect dainty touch to bring it all together. For some fun texture, I embossed the yellow banner with the Flutter Bys Embossing Plate, and the card base with the Dotted Swiss Embossing Plate. The card base was then cut from the Classic Coved Rectangle Silver Stacker, layered with the Scalloped Coved Rectangle Stacker Nesting Die.

Now, how about a fun little prize for stopping by! Actually, I've got two!

Follow my blog, and leave me a comment telling me what you love most about spring for your chance to win! The winner will be announced on March 8th. The hop will be running from March 1st through the 7th to allow you plenty of time to check out all the inspiraion on each of the members blogs.....lots of prizes along the way too!

Next stop on the hop is   Heather Leopard

Best Wishes

Hello! Today I have a card featuring some of the new winter dies from Cheery Lynn Designs.

The card base is cut using the Scalloped Rectangle Reflections Boutique set. I added texture to the white portion of the background using the Petite Hearts Embossing Plate. I added some trim from the Expandable Tiny Borders plate, and Lady Kate Edger for lace.

The flower cluster was created using Build a Flower #3 to create the yellow flower. Cutie Fringe 4 makes the most adorable spiky flowers, shown here in burgundy. The Daisy Strip has three different sizes on one die, making cutting so much quicker! Two different sizes are tucked into the bouquet. Foliage is from Build a Flower #3, Rose Leaf Strip, Stacker Flower #1 Leaf, and Olive Branches. To the bottom right corner is the new Best Wishes Phrase, and a Mini Butterfly fluttering about.

Hugs

Hello! Today I have a card featuring the new Build a Flower dies from Cheery Lynn Designs.
I started by cutting the base from Scalloped Rectangle Reflections Boutique. Adding a little texture, I used my favorite Diamonds & Starburst Embossing Plate. The Polynesian Sails Oval doily is the perfect delicate base for my image. Above the image hovers a dragonfly from the new Tiny Things with Wings….such cute little critters in this set!
The larger flower was created using the new Build a Flower #3 set. The flower center, as well as the smaller burgundy flowers were cut from Build a Flower Embellishment #3. Daisies being my favorite flower, you are sure to see more from the Daisy Strip in the future! Foliage from Pair of Ferns, Wreath Strip, Rose Leaf Strip, and Small Leaves #2. Tucked in the flowers is the new Hugs sentiment atop Sentiment Frame #1.

Non Traditional Holiday Card

Hello! I have my last holiday card to share!
Stepping away from my comfort zone, I chose to use non traditional holiday colors. The background was cut using the largest Classic Coved Rectangle Silver Stacker. Lace Corner Deco C adorns the corners. I turned the Dutch Scallop Square Frame at an angle for more interest.

To create the flower, I cut Rose Leaf Strip twice. I staggered the leaves as I attached them. Once assembled, I added just a touch of Distress Stickles to add to the vintage flair. Build a Flower Embellishment #2 was used to create the flower center. Foilage was cut using Wreath Strip and Holly Leaves.   Tucked in behind the flower is Snowflake 2.

Here you can see the details in the background. I covered the Diamonds & Starburst Embossing Plate with Ranger Distress Ink (Spun Sugar) to add a hint of color to the embossed areas. This is the smaller of the Merry Christmas sentiment set.
