Dyed and Gone To Heaven!!

Hello Everyone,

For a while now I have been following Chris's blog Dye Candy. She is such a talented quilter and also dyes and sells her own fabrics on Etsy. Luscious! I have several of her fabrics and love them all.

Anyway, she was doing a giveaway on her blog, normally I don't enter giveaways because as you know I have lots of my own fabric that I sell. But hand dyes are a different story. I don't sell those! So enter the giveaway I did and I won!!

Here is what I chose...

Totally my colors and sort of reminiscent of my most recent project.

Just love the hot pink and the orange.

And OH... the green is just phenomenal!

Thank you, so much Chris!! If you don't know Chris, you must go over and visit her and then take some time to poke around in her shop. You won't be disappointed and I will not be held responsible for any possible fabric addiction as a result.

And speaking of giveaways...

Would you like to win this little bundle of Kona Cotton Solids? If so, hop on over to see Kristin and Jordan at KoJo Designs. I am one of their newest sponsors and they are doing a giveaway for me!!

You will love their site too, so take some time to browse, but make sure you leave a comment there to be in the running for the fabric!

Handwork

Hello Everyone,

In the summer time we tend to be on the road more than in the winter. This means, I need to bring something to keep my hands busy. So I decided to get back to my GFG Hexies!!But I can only do handwork when we are on the highway, not on windy roads my stomach just can't take it.

It feels good to be doing these again and I just love the results.

Here are 27 of them that were done previously which you can read about in this post.

I keep all my supplies in this little box that I got in the fishing department at Wal-Mart. It is convenient that the hexies fit just right.

Initially I think that I calculated that I needed 96 flowers for the bed that I would like this to cover. With only 27 made and one in progress, I have a little way to go yet.

They will all be bordered with Kona Cotton White Hexagons. You just have to love 1930s reproduction fabric with the white, it is just reminiscent of a different era which I adore.

Before you go, don't forget to enter the giveaway for the Wild Garden Fat Quarter Bundle. Just click here.

PA Dutch Sights

Hello Everyone,

As you know from my post here, I was at the Kutztown Folk Festival last weekend. In addition to the quilts that I shared, I wanted to share some of my other favorite things from the festival.

Hex signs are such a tradition in PA Dutch country. I have always loved them since I was little. They remind me so much of quilt blocks.

They come in all different sizes and you can hang them just about any where.

There were several wood turning craftsmen there and one had this wonderful little display of colorful wooden tops. My daughter and I couldn't resist spinning several of them.

I don't know what it is, but I always love seeing the baby animals. They have bunnies, lots of them... you know how much they multiply!

Baby ducklings.

Piglets. Happy as two pigs in a poke.

Don't you just love his haircut?

But I must say that one of my favorites and most inspirational is this beautiful fellow. Just look at the color in his feathers.

Gorgeous color and pattern.

This is just my most favorite photo. Can you see a quilt here?

Sorry for this photo, but it just made me giggle. A very pregnant female. She just has to be uncomfortable and ready to birth at any moment.

Last but not least, the hubs spending lots of time at the "Brain Teaser" table. This craftsman had tons of wooden puzzle that were virtually impossible to solve. We stood there for about 40 minutes or so trying everyone.

Of course, if you made a purchase you received the solution. So we purchased three. We didn't look at the solutions as we wanted to mentally torture ourselves for just a little while longer. ;)

Before you leave, just wanted to let you know that ALL Westminster Fabrics and Batiks are marked down to $7.75 per yard through tomorrow in the shop! Don't delay, start shopping now by clicking here.

Also, don't forget to enter the giveaway here for Kona Cotton Solids and Aurifil Thread!

Blogger's Quilt Festival Spring 2011 Edition

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the Spring Edition of my friend Amy's Blogger's Quilt Festival!! I am doubly excited about this edition for several reasons...

1. I am once again a sponsor of the event and my online shop is giving away 2 -$20 Gift Certificates on Amy's site!!
2. Because I get to share my creations with you...

I know that recently I did post about this quilt, but I have to say that I really do love this one and hope you do too.

This is my Diamonds Down Under Quilt that I designed, made, and quilted for Quilt Magazine. It is in the current issue!! You can find it in my shop with just a few more kits available. You can also read more about it here.

Here is the entire quilt. One of the reasons I designed this one with these colors is because the fabrics just spoke to me. Australian Aboriginals and Kona Cotton Solids were used. I love bright saturated color and these did the trick. I also enjoy working with different shapes such as triangles and diamonds.

This is the photo that appears in the magazine. The rumpled teen room look.

Because I really liked how the quilt turned out, I made it into an iPhone case!! Click here to make your own one of a kind case for your gadgets.

Also, I thought I would share one more quilt with you...

This is the scrappy black and white Hunter's Star quilt that I made for my daughter for Christmas. You can read more about it here and here and here.

Thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed the show!!

Make My Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hello Everyone,

Have you ever tweaked a recipe over and over again until it becomes yours? About 20 years ago I had begun to do this with a chocolate chip cookie recipe. After about 6 or so times of making it, I got it just the way that I like it and might I say that many of my friends do too.

So blogging is all about sharing, and I thought I would share the recipe with all my blogging friends.

Here they are getting ready to go into the oven. Tip: I use an ice cream scoop to shape and scoop them onto the baking tray. They are all relatively uniform at that point.

Cooling after being in the oven.

Almost ready...

Yum! Just how I like them, chunky, chewy, and gooey! Here is the recipe, now you need to try them and let me know what you think.

Jackie’s Chocolate Chip Cookies (YUM!)

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

3/4 butter, softened

2 eggs

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

3 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

18 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (yes, the more the merrier)

Place sugar, brown sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla in bowl. Use electric mixer. If you have a Kitchen Aid turn to Speed 2 and mix for 30 seconds. Stop and scrape bowl. Turn to Speed 4 and beat for 30 seconds.

Place flour, salt, and baking soda in the mixture, gradually on Stir speed for about 2 minutes. Increase to Speed 2 and beat for 30 seconds. Add chocolate chips on stir speed and mix until blended.

Drop by scoopfuls on baking sheet. Bake at 350˚ for 10 to 12 minutes. I like to do 10 minutes first. Then check and bake until just slightly brown or slightly undercooked. Remove from oven and cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes before removing to a cookie rack to cool.

Enjoy!!

I almost forgot. Would you like to win these? I am giving these beautiful Kona Cotton Solids away. There 6 half yard cuts!!!

But you will need to visit my friend Rita, today. The giveaway is on her blog and it ends on Saturday, May 7... Australian Time. Just click here to enter the drawing!

***Also, all Westminster Fabrics and Batiks are on Sale! They are marked down to $7.75 per yard through midnight 5/8/11 EST. Click here to start shopping***

Choosing Asparagus or Denim??

Hello Everyone,

I am planning a new project. With all the projects that I have in the works, why not pile one more into the mix, right? In reality, I have been wanting to make this particular project for some time now. So I thought that I would start gathering my fabrics.

Here is what I have together so far. I love all the different colors and the sweet prints which are true to the 1930s reproductions. Many of you know how much I love these sweet little prints, even though I am a big brights fan!

This is the project from a Fons and Porters magazine. I really like the design, but better yet it is all strip pieced!! Although, I am most likely going to alter the border. The design of it hasn't been decided just yet though.

Here is my dilemma, you can see in the pattern that the 1930s prints are set in white and then with a solid colored triangle. In the magazine, you can see they used blue. I am not much of a blue person, but I still like it. My thinking was that I might swap it out for green.

So on the left is Kona Cotton Asparagus, on the right is Kona Cotton Denim.

Here are my fabrics laid out on the Asparagus.

Here they are on the Denim.

I would love your thoughts and am curious how many of you prefer green over blue and vice versa. So please leave a comment to let me know your thoughts.

Oh, and don't forget to enter my giveaway here.

Until Next Time...

Naptime!

Hello Everyone,

Yes, I think I can use a nap! But there is definitely nothing more sweet than a sleeping baby, right? Well, maybe a sleeping baby under a quilt!

This particular sleeping baby is my one year old nephew and trust me he is just too cute. He is modeling a small wall quilt that I made years ago for my brother.

At the time, my brother was into cooking with lots of spicy things. So, I wanted to make him a modern sort of quilt with this wonderful chili pepper fabric. Some of you may remember this from "back in the day". I think it was in the early '90's. I would have to look at the label on the quilt to see when I made it exactly.

Here you can see the whole quilt, with my sweet little nephew all snuggled up. I am so happy that it is now being put to good use. I think that the solids were also Kona. I tried to do a gradated effect with the colors too!

Off for my nap now... not really! Just cookie making!

Until Next Time...
