Altered Can Tealight Holder (Or Anything Holder)

I love candles - I always have, life "prior to husband" that is!  He is completely the opposite I am, and hates having anything with flame near me (I'm not sure if he thinks I will burn my house down or hurt myself.....)!!!  I decided I wanted to use the tealights we bought for something else - and light a candle when I simply want to relax, and alter a tuna can I did!!!  Now, if you look back a couple of posts down, you will see another AMAZING tealight holder project!!!  Totally different idea's, but absolutely can be created together, in fact - I am going to be using this for inspiration for sure!
This is the kind of project that is easy enough to use with any cans that are small like this, such as tuna or cat food cans!!!  It is also easy enough to customize it to the person receiving it - this one was for me!!!!  For this project, make sure you look in your stash for supplies you can use, before you go out and purchase them:

Supplies needed:

  • Can of your choice
  • Creative Paperclay product
  • Paint of your choice
  • Sand paper
  • Embellishments for the outside of the can
  • Hot glue gun
  • Water
Directions:
Step one:  Take the can you are using, and make sure to wash it thoroughly.  If it takes a couple of times to wash it so there is no smell, do so!

Step two:  Flatten out the Creative Paperclay product very thin - you want to wrap the to the inside of the can.

Step three:  Before you let it dry - take the water and your index finger, and smooth out the Creative Paperclay product as best you can!

Step four:  After fully dried, sand the product once at least, maybe twice if you see it needs it!  Paint it after you are done and you have wiped off the item!  Paint at least 2 coats, letting it dry enough between coats!

Step five:  After the holder has completely dried, start to create the outside edges!  I started with leftover beads and things I had from other projects - and started to add the wire - a few beads....and then a flower between each of the sets of beads.  I went around the item twice, hot gluing the wire and the flowers as you go!

I have a few more of these in my head - ready for more tealights and things I simply need to keep!!!!  I always like doing one thing, because it makes the next thing I do go much smoother because I have learned the little things NOT to do!  Easy project, grab some fun tealight candles for your favorite friend - and an easy gift is made!  I hope you enjoy this one as much as I have enjoyed making it!

Tips For Working With Creative Paperclay

I love working with Creative Paperclay product for many reasons, but mostly because I love making one of a kind projects for my friends and family, and for myself too!  Yet there are times when something doesn't turn out quite as I wanted it to look!!!

  • When you need something to be completely flat - try to put it in the oven instead of letting air dry!
  • Make pieces ahead of time, so you can simply grab things and create!
  • Take your time in planning things out - and as your are making, use plenty of water to smooth things out as you go!
  • Recycle products as you can to give a firm base for what you are creating!  I love to use recycled things you normally would throw away for other things!
Not everything is going to turn out perfect - spend time and enjoy simply creating!  The project above didn't turn out "perfect" - but it did turn out the exact way I wanted it to turn out!
Thanks for stopping by,
Lynda Jeffs

Lynda's Creative Canvas Project

I think this is by far one of my most favorite projects to date!!!  Simple - yet beautiful - and I can't wait to do even more!!!   I couldn't decide the photos to use at first - kept going back to these, partially because I love them so much, yes the photos and the people in them!

Supplies used:
16 x 20 Canvas
Delight product
Cookie cutters - flower and heart
Stampin' Up molded flowers (3)
4 different sheets of cardstock/paper
Paint - various colors to match
Sizzix die cut - vine
Twinkling H2O's - Sunflower & Rose Gold
Studio G's silver & gold glitter glue
Mod Podge glue
Hot glue gun

Directions:
Step one - Flatten out the Delight product and cut 3 flowers and 3 hearts from the flattened out product.  Set aside and let dry completely.

Step two:  With the paint you have selected - paint streaks all across the entire canvas - set aside to dry completely.

Step three:  Using 2 sheets of paper with 1 photo, start by using the Mod Podge glue to adhere the photo matt's together.  Finish by adhering the Mod Podge glue to the top of the papers as well.  Set the canvas aside to dry.

Step four:  Add the photo to the top of the matted papers after the glue has dried - and start to paint each of the 3 hearts and flowers with the Twinkling H2O's paint.  Set aside to dry.

Step five:  Die cut the Sizzix vines - one for each of the flowers, glue to the bottom of each - add a flower to the top.

Step six:  After the paint has dried - add the shapes to the canvas - using gold glitter glue for the flowers, and silver glitter glue for the hearts to add a bit of bling!

The entire project didn't take too long to make - and by using the Delight product - took less time to actually finish drying!  I can't wait to see what the rest of the projects I have in my mind - looks like!  Fun and easy project for sure!!
Until next time,
Lynda Jeffs

Getting Ready For Halloween - Creative Paperclay Style

Last year at Halloween time, my husband and I created this scene together!!!  I really liked the time we spent together creating it!!!  This year - we are adding to it - using what was left over from the stuff Creative Paperclay and Gina's Designs sent me last year, and a bit of ummmm "extra's" shall we say!!!  I will be using a combination of the chip board pieces I got last year, and the Creative Paperclay and Delight products I just got - in order to create more things to go with last years scene!!!

**Tip's**
  • Look at things you would normally throw away, and use them as bases for other things!  Things like a fruit cup turned in to a cauldron - paper towel holder into a tree - chip board into a haunted house...you get the idea!!!
  • Make a plan ahead of time - don't wait until the last minute to get things done!  If you plan more of the details, you know what all you will need to do to get the project done without problems!
  • Get the whole family involved - don't do this whole thing yourself!  Simply have fun creating and spending time as a family no matter what you end up creating!
No matter what project you start to work on - enjoy your time creating what you do, and spending time with your family!  I can't wait to see what we end up creating - out of everyday things we would normally throw away!!!  I also can't wait to spend the time creating more things for our scene - together!!!
Until next time,
Lynda Jeffs

Hi everyone, I am Lynda Jeffs - back for my 2nd term on the design team! I am married to a wonderful man named Del - who truly has been one of the best things that has happened to me! We have 8 kids together (4 boys and 4 girls), and just had our 8th grand-child (3 boys and 5 girls), with one more on the way! We currently live in Sparks, Nevada...I've lived in 3 states since June 2012 - I hope this is one of my last and final stops! Creative wise, I have made cards for almost 23 years now...my first project was my almost 23 year old daughters' birth announcements made out of a Disney stamp and cardstock! I have been making scrapbooks now for over 15 years now and love to create one of a kind items! One of my favorite thing right now is using Creative Paperclay® with my scrapbook templates to make one of a kind embellishments for my cards or pages! I also love to alter things, to make them in to something else which you can check out my ideas for all of these on my blog at www.memoriesintyme.blogspot.com/ . On a side note, I love to read, watch HGTV...spend time with my family, bake when I can...and collect fun ideas to create later on! This is me in a nutshell!

My name is Gloriann Irizarry. I was born and raised in the beautiful Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. Ever since I can recall, I always had my hands on crayons, scissors and paper. My parents knew from the start how much I love to create! I remember taking my dad’s catalogues and cutting everything out to play with the pictures and to create collages. I had so much fun doing this. My dad, well, he really was not sure how to place his order from my collage! When I turned 10 years old, I moved to the eastern coast of Puerto Rico to live with my dear Irizarry grandparents. There too I attended Ana Roque High School. My experiences at this school helped to make one thing crystal clear to me: I LOVE ART! I took a freshman art class with a wonderful art teacher. I never left the classroom (or so it seemed!). I became addicted to art and came back every semester for more classes. I could not stop! I loved how our teacher motivated us to create and craft, how he guided us, and how he helped us improve our skills. He also organized expos and fairs so that our art pieces had a place to be shown. Yes! I ended up taking a total of 6 semesters of Art classes with him and graduated the top of the Art class from the Escuela Superior Technologica Humacao in 1996. It was a great learning experience. Once I graduated from high school, I went to the El Turabo University for a year before I moved to upstate New York in 1998 . I now live in the beautiful Mohawk Valley here in central NY with my family. As a mother of three young wonderful daughters, I find myself working, caring for my family, and taxiing kids from here to there for various sporting events. I have to say I’m never bored! I enjoy every little moment I spend with my girls, but will always continue to work time to create art into my daily schedule as that means doing what I love the most. My girls are learning the joys of creating also! I love to sculpt and will never stop creating. I was born this way and for that I thank GOD every day. Art has been a great way to be creative and to express myself. I like to keep my hands busy creating – whether it is unique jewelry, art dolls, ooak sculpture figures, fairy wings for all your project needs, or even wigs and clothing for your sculptures. I love all the variety in art! Why? because ART is so rewarding. Seeing your creation take form is an awesome feeling. All my available items will be for sale at my store.

My mom said I started drawing and crafting at the age of three, experimenting with every art and craft medium I could get my hands on (and some I wasn't supposed to get my hands on!) As a teen I worked as an illustrator for our school newspaper, and also started my freelance career designing advertisements and business logos. Throughout my adult years, my artistic endeavors have taken many paths, both professionally and privately. I allowed my vision to dictate the technique, so rather than stick with one media, my work included oil painting, watercolors, colored pencil, pen and ink, sculpting, wood carving, metal work, computer graphics, and more. I am still obsessed with creating art, and finding or inventing new ways to bring my ideas to life. I have been a crafts instructor and professional miniaturist for almost 20 years - a job which allows me to work with a wide variety of media! I discovered Creative Paperclay® in 1999, and it quickly became my favorite clay for crafting...well, just about everything! I am extremely thrilled that my horse sculpture was chosen to be on the front of every package! My interests range from steampunk and fairy gardening, to robotics and vintage crafts, but my favorite activity is playing and creating with my grandkids. I also enjoy writing, gardening, photography, camping, dog training, and sock dancing.

I am a true Southern Californian. I was raised in Columbia, South Carolina and became a permanent resident of Southern California following job assignment through U.S. Army with 17 served. I have been married for 23 years and have two man babies aged 21 and 23 years old.
I consider myself a Mixed Media Impressionist and an Art Supply Enthusiast. I used to be an avid digital photobook creator and food photography hobbyist. And I even had the privilege to have one of my photobooks included in a starter kit for the consultant’s package for digital scrapbooking company. I started paper crafting shortly after my father in law passed away in March 2009. My mother in law asked me to create a traditional scrapbook for her.
So that project caused me to evolve from a digi girl to a mixed media follower.
I am an avid art supply shopper and I love conducting creative play with new products and techniques. I enjoy creating are Artist Trading Cards (ATC), Altered Playing Cards (APC), Altered Books and most recently I have been experimenting with Altered Bottles and Altered Shoes. I also a regular participant in art swaps.
My love for creating ATCs inspired me to start my own ATC club which I established at my local scrapbook store, Custom Impressions in Los Alamitos, CA. During my meetings, I provide detailed product reviews and technique demonstrations. I was appointed to establish an altered art program for the store and teach some of the classes. I am now evolving from a skilled demonstrator to an educator with my first classes scheduled at the beginning on January 2015.
I frequently use book pages, gessos, stamps, stencils, texture paste, modeling paste, spray inks, acrylic paint, watercolor products, Colourarte products, Viva Décor products and varies clay products in projects.
I take pride in my work and challenge myself to create projects that ignite an art share conversation. My primary mission now is to spread joy through my art and inspire others to conduct their own creative play.

I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. I studied graphic design in Portland, Oregon before moving to Denton, Texas and putting all my focus on creating mixed media art. In addition to being on the Creative Paperclay design team, I am a contributor for the Robin's Nest Design Team, an article writer for Mixed Media Art, and a blogger for DecoArt.

I strongly believe in giving back. I volunteer at Scrap Denton Creative Reuse Center where I teach workshops, art camps, and perform art demos. I am very passionate about mixed media art and enjoy helping and watching others discover their creativity.

Ann is a Mixed Media artist who lives near Ottawa, Ontario Canada, mom of two terrific teens, wife of a very busy businessman, and servant to one fluffy cat. From sewing and most needle crafts, stamping, scrapbooking and a lot of paper crafts, to drawing, painting and working with inks, Ann is multi skilled and never bored . She had some formal training with a short stint in fine Arts in College, many many workshops, and a lot of self learning. She also has experience working as a consultant, teacher, and writer of various crafts. Her style is eclectic and vintage, inspired by nature and her collections of found objects and ephemera. She loves to scour the internet, magazines, and flea markets for ideas which she collects in her various notebooks and takes lots of pictures with her I phone. Her favourite place to be is in her home studio with her beloved family nearby. Her family motto is : Live well, laugh often, and love much. Her blog is: http://annmakes.blogspot.com

Diane MacNaughtan
My name is Diane MacNaughtan, Owner of Dianie Mac Designs. I live with my husband, in the same small town that I grew up in. Our home is nestled on a quiet street, at the foothills of the breathtaking Wasatch Mountains, in Brigham City, Utah. Alan and I have 3 amazing grown children and 6 gorgeous grandchildren. I started creating as early as I can remember. As a child, I'd rather be home drawing, painting or making paper mache' dollies then being outside playing. Both my parents were very supportive and would make sure an endless of creative supplies were available. in my early adult years, I spent most of my time drawing and painting. Then I discovered clay, and it was love at first touch. I experimented with many a clay, but when I found Creative Paperclay® , I knew instantly it was my clay of choice. I enjoy trying new mediums. I am fascinated with mixed media art, and enjoy learning from other artists. When I'm not in my studio, you might find me thrifting, re-purposing something old to something new, cooking up some delicious food, or being one with nature camping and spending time with my family who love deeply. Oh, and running after those grand-babies!

Susan Owenby
Susan Owenby Yep, I do that too and so can you! I have long suspected that there is no one in the universe that defines “Jack of all trades, master of none” as well as I do. I LOVE to create. I know pretty quickly which mediums inspire me.I can always spot a winner when I have a 100 ideas of what I might like to try with it almost as soon as I touch it. I recently had the opportunity to try Creative Paperclay® and knew I had my hands in something special. I'm looking forward to learning the material and sharing my experience with you!

Lulu Lancaster
Hello I am LuLu Lancaster an artist living in rural Northern California. I have been been painting and creating since a small child. It wasn't until a trip to SFMOMA many years ago that I began to create art dolls. An exhibition of Picasso and his sculptures that served as his models for several paintings spurred an idea to create dolls and use them as a model for paintings. Once finished with the painting I found myself overrun with several dolls. Soon the dolls overtook the paintings and launched me into the world of creating art dolls. Since that start into Art Dolls I have created many Dolls with their own stories to tell. I love a good story and you could call my dolls emotional wrecks ;) My art is drawn on both personal history and that of others along with unfulfilled dreams. The irony of the choices in life made along the way and the result of those choices that lead us into situations we find ourselves in as adults. Sometimes not pretty and sometimes a little cheesy mostly all overly exaggerated.
