Creating Paper Texture August 2017 #artbygloricom Tip

August 2017 #artbygloricom Montly Tip

Hola and Hi to all my wonderful friends. It is Gloriann Irizarry from #artbygloricom once more with a neat and easy tip. It is another wonderful summer day here in Upstate NY.
Since summer is almost done I wanted to share with you a super neat trick I pick up over the years of me sculpting with the super versatile Creative Paperclay.

I like to recycle olf materials so for this one I will use a old brown envelope I recently got from a order in the mail. Cut all arounf the edges of the envelope. Pull the envelope in 2 parts.

Now you can cover the one part with clear thin tape and then completely crinkle it up.

Now use the tape covered portion facing the nicely moist Creative Paperclay and press it all aound it.

Make sure you press firmly and are using the clear tape cover portion. The clear tape will give the envelope the protection it needs to hold the crinkles and will tranfer the texture to the clay very nicely.

Dont be afraind to press hard or moving the little crinkled ball of paper around to make diferent imprints on the flat wet layer of Creative Paperclay material.

Once you are happy with the results you can set is aside to dry. This is how I make the crinkled texture look on some of my mix media sculpted pieces. Looks great when you paint them because the paint loves to pool in the crevices and will give the piece a more three-dimensional look instead of a flat layer.

It also work good at night when you make any lamp from recycle glass. The harder you press the clay against the glass containes the more light you will get to shine thru the final piece.

I hope you find this Tip useful and if so fee free to like and share.
For more fre Creative Paperclay Material ideas and tutorial feel free to follow us. Stay tune.

Endless Possibilities.......by Jenn DuBell

Hi everyone! Today I want to share with you some of the endless possibilites for creating with Creative Paperclay® and the other products you can purchase from them! I will also show you how I created a beautiful embellishment for an upcoming project!
Creative Paperclay® modeling material is very versatile and does not require baking to dry. This makes it much easier to create! I use this to create embellishments by hand and with molds.

Next, Delight® is an air dry modeling compound that is similar to paperclay, however, it is much lighter in weight. Like paperclay it does not require baking to dry. It is also very easy to work with and picks up details beautifully. This is my go to compound when molding fancy flourishes and molds with much detail. I just love it! It takes to paint very well once completely dry. It is also bright white rather than a clay color like paperclay.
So if you have a large project that you are wanting to be lighter in the end this is the one for you!

Creative Paperclay® also carries tools and other extras to assist in your creating. This set, for example,  is a great addition to any crafter's collection...........
With 12 different tools the possibilities are simply endless!
There are many other products and tools available for purchase at the online store here. For the three examples above you can click on the image to go directly for purchasing that product.

Now, I would like to show you a larger project I have started. In my upcoming post I will show you the entire project when it is completed.

This is the start of a mandala-like project I am currently working on. For this I have used a fondant extruder tool and my 12 piece tool set (pictured above).

I hope you are inspired to go get your Creative Paperclay® and tools and try out the endless possibilities! I will be back in two weeks to show you this project in it's entirety, so please come back for more inspiration!

Working with Creative Paperclay and Delight Products

I have been on the design team for the past 3 years, and simply have learned so much working with everyone that has been on this incredible team!  I scrapbook and stamp, so I use both Creative Paperclay and Delight in various ways for my scrapbook pages, my cards, and paper crafts galore!  I am working on organizing my space, Creative Paperclay is a part of the spaces I am organizing!  Magnets made with stamps and molds, make my space look inviting and happy!!!
Yet part of working with this incredible stuff, is being able to learn from others on my team and the things they have done as well!  Going in to the next few months, here are a few tips whether you are working on a gift, your own creative space, or your space outside:

  • Take a look at the past projects -we have Easter coming up, Mothers Day, outdoor projects - find something you want to do and get the supplies started for it!  Planning things out a bit, really helps to make sure the
    finished project is PERFECT!
  • If you want your project to be a bit heavier, use Creative Paperclay!  It hangs better on with a magnet on the back, than does the Delight!
  • Plan your projects out on paper - before you start to tackle them in real life!  This way, those larger projects you want to be "perfect" will be PERFECT!
  • If something is simply not working the way you want it to be - start over!  The best part of working with the Creative Paperclay and Delight products - is being able to reuse it if you don't wait too long!!!
I am working on my designs for a fun fairy garden (thanks to the design team), and a fun angel girl that will sit by my desk (thanks to a past blog post)!  I am designing on paper first - finding the items I need to recycle...(boy do I use a lot of creamer), and by the time May hits - I will have a fun fairy garden for my patio, my angel girl done, and more magnets made for my creative space!

Shari's Creative PaperclayTip of the Month - January 2017

Hi!

Welcome to my Creative Paperclay® tip of the month for January. Can you believe it's 2017 already?!?

When finishing my paperclay pieces, I absolutely love my Sandits® tools. They are great for getting into those places that sandpaper just cant touch. They come in a several shapes and grit. They are one of my "go to" tools for paperclay.

Recently I was sanding a piece and came to an area that I could not reach with any of my tools. Nothing would get to the area I needed to have finished. Then I thought of a great idea. I got out my fingernail files. It worked!

Fingernail files come in several different grits, you can cut them to any shape you need, they bend easily to get into those hard to reach spots, and they are very inexpensive.

I hope this little tip might help the next time you are working with Creative Paperclay®.

Happy Creating!
Shari

Tips For Working With Creative Paperclay

I love working with Creative Paperclay product for many reasons, but mostly because I love making one of a kind projects for my friends and family, and for myself too!  Yet there are times when something doesn't turn out quite as I wanted it to look!!!

  • When you need something to be completely flat - try to put it in the oven instead of letting air dry!
  • Make pieces ahead of time, so you can simply grab things and create!
  • Take your time in planning things out - and as your are making, use plenty of water to smooth things out as you go!
  • Recycle products as you can to give a firm base for what you are creating!  I love to use recycled things you normally would throw away for other things!
Not everything is going to turn out perfect - spend time and enjoy simply creating!  The project above didn't turn out "perfect" - but it did turn out the exact way I wanted it to turn out!

Shari's tip of the month for September - The Stash Box

Good Morning!

My tip for this month is something that you may not think of when you are creating. Its simple but can save you tons of time.

Every time I open up my paperclay and make that first piece for my project I stop and I think. Should I make another for my paperclay stash? Of course!

Need a common shape that you could use on another project? Check your paperclay stash. Are you doing multiples of a project and are short that one piece and no more clay on hand? Check your stash box. Hate waiting for pieces to dry? You could have a piece all ready to go in your stash.

Once you create one piece it's always easier to make another right away. Don't forget about those "mistakes" you make also. Don't toss them! It might be perfect for another project. Put it in your Paperclay stash box.

Here is some of my Creative Paperclay® stash. I keep it in a clear container so its easy to see what I have.

Hope this tip will help you when making magic with Creative Paperclay®.

Happy Creating,
Shari

Getting Ready For Halloween - Creative Paperclay Style

Last year at Halloween time, my husband and I created this scene together!!!  I really liked the time we spent together creating it!!!  This year - we are adding to it - using what was left over from the stuff Creative Paperclay and Gina's Designs sent me last year, and a bit of ummmm "extra's" shall we say!!!  I will be using a combination of the chip board pieces I got last year, and the Creative Paperclay and Delight products I just got - in order to create more things to go with last years scene!!!

**Tip's**
  • Look at things you would normally throw away, and use them as bases for other things!  Things like a fruit cup turned in to a cauldron - paper towel holder into a tree - chip board into a haunted house...you get the idea!!!
  • Make a plan ahead of time - don't wait until the last minute to get things done!  If you plan more of the details, you know what all you will need to do to get the project done without problems!
  • Get the whole family involved - don't do this whole thing yourself!  Simply have fun creating and spending time as a family no matter what you end up creating!
No matter what project you start to work on - enjoy your time creating what you do, and spending time with your family!  I can't wait to see what we end up creating - out of everyday things we would normally throw away!!!  I also can't wait to spend the time creating more things for our scene - together!!!
Until next time,

Lynda's Beginner Tips

Hello everyone - I am so excited to bring you another beginner video by Lynda!  Since I scrapbook, I use both Delight and Creative Paperclay for my embellishments using a simple flower mold and either of the products!  I love how I can make them up ahead of time, and that I can customize them to whatever project I am working on!

As you can see - it is easy enough to use either product with molds!   Find fun molds you can use, and have fun creating your own Creative Paperclay or Delight product embellishments!

Lynda's Tips for January

I have been more of a beginner, working with Creative Paperclay - more scared of what I can do with it than anything!  My husband on the other hand, a natural from the time he picked it up and started to play with it!  Watching him create the things he did for our Halloween scene, has helped me look at my next few projects a bit differently!  It is that in which I have learned I wanted to share with you today!
  • If you are going to do a larger project, make sure to spend the time in sketching out the project and what you want it to look like!
  • Do NOT bite off more than you can chew - start small and work your way up from there!
  • When it comes to the ideas you want to create, make sure you get a list of what you need to make - and by when it needs to be done!  Have a sketch book to jot down ideas and sketch things out as the inspiration hits!
I am working on some cost effective tips - and a video for my next project idea!  I have my calendar, some paper to sketch things out, and I am ready to plan the next few months of projects!  I can't wait to share with you what we end up creating!

Creative Paperclay Organization Tip

Hello everyone, I am healing nicely with the hand, which means more creating and blogging - so this post is actually ON TIME this time!  I wanted to thank Terri, our design team leader for being so understanding with all of this - she truly is a remarkable leader!  I love working on this team, and love the things I have learned from the people here with bigger projects they have done!  I can't wait to share with you the fun things we are all creating for our design team blog hop on Halloween, as well as my idea for the month!  If you end up creating something with either product for Halloween - we are also having a link party where you can link up your project to our blog from the 15th - 31st!  Make sure you check back for the ideas!!!
One thing I can't stand, is having my creative stuff all over the place, I like to have it organized for the most part. I recently found these containers at the dollar store and bought 4 of them, I can't believe how much stuff they actually hold!  Size wise - they are 10.5" squared - so actually quite large if you ask me!!!  In this container alone  I have all of the supplies I use with these 2 products -

  • Product (both)
  • Rolling pin
  • Toilet paper roll (empty)
  • Larger tall round rolls (empty)
  • Pill bottle
  • 2 containers with molded images to use
  • Bag with Composimold stuff
  • Red box with molds, tin foil, slip, tools exclusive to these products
  • Scissors
  • Projects to work on
  • Scratch paper for painting
  • Notepaper for projects and notes

When I work on projects, there are certain things I use a lot - or I don't use them with other crafts.  I also don't like everything thrown in a box no matter what it is craft wise, I really like to have everything organized a bit more either in smaller containers, or organized in a way that is easy to understand and get to!  This just works best for me!
You can see in the photos above how I have various containers - they are for different things.  The clear and black containers have a lot of premolded items - so that when I need to use one, they are already molded and dried and ready to be customized to that project!  I keep my molds and other supplies in the red striped box (pictured at the side here), which is a recycled box from Christmas last year!!!  I hate to throw things away, as you can tell!  I also like being able to grab a container - and work on what I need to, not having to keep the whole box out!  When I am done, I can put my stuff back where it goes - perfectly organized!
**Tip - When you go out to eat, look at the containers they give you - are they washable, and can they be reused?  I get all of mine at either Carl's Jr, Jack in the Box or Applebee's!  If they have lids on them, they are great for projects you are working on to keep everything in one place!  I also keep things I am working on in them, with the papers and embellishments in the entire container, pulling it out when I have time to create!  This also helps with dust, and making it so you don't loose any pieces!
I hope you enjoy my tips for the month!  I am really enjoying working on the blog hop and idea for the month, and since I paper craft as it is - you know there will be fun layouts and projects throughout this month on my blog (link below), so join me there for more paper crafting ideas!

Coloring Creative Paperclay®

Hi, it's Ann here today from Annmakes and the CP Design Team with a quick and fun tip for you.  Did you know that you can use colouring pencils to colour the dry Creative Paperclay®?  Well, yes you can.  Isn't that just wonderful?  I think it is.

So, I have been playing with my pencils and some embellishments I made a while back.  I like to make embellishments and pieces to use in my mixed media in quantity so I am ready to go when I want to make a larger piece of Mixed Media, especially a canvas.  I went and coloured a dolphin, starfish and a fish.  I found that by using wooden coloured pencils on the dry clay (CP) pieces smoothed out any of the rough texture of the clay.  It reminded me of soap stone when I was done colouring.  I also noticed a pearl like finish once I was done colouring, and I found that to be very cool!

Furthermore, after rolling out a piece of Creative Paperclay® and letting it air dry, I used some Archival ink and a stamp on the clay .  It stamped just like on paper.  I then used my coloured pencils to colour in the image and it worked beautifully.

That's my tip for today, I hope that I have inspired you to look at your own art supplies in a new way and encourage you to give it a try.  Thank you for stopping by.

Lynda's Monthly Tips

Hello there!  I have loved bringing you beginner projects for you to start out with, especially scrapbook embellishments for you to use with your paper craft projects!  After checking out my own personal calendar for the next few months - I have decided I best get things done early!  In order to get things done, here are a few tips to help you:

  • Mold things that you like to use on your projects ahead of time!  That way, it saves you time from having to let the piece dry!
  • Have a container to put all of your supplies in!  That way, you can pull out one thing, and have everything in it you will need!
  • Also have a container you can take with you if you are going to be waiting for an appointment!  The Delight product won't make your hands TOO yucky, but keep a small container of baby wipes/hand wipes with you!
  • Learn to look at your calendar for the upcoming months, (once a month challenge on my blog, link below).  That way, you can get things done earlier - and work the bugs out if you have any!
  • Check out some of the fun ideas on Pinterest or this blog!  Tweak them for what YOU want to make!
I never realized all the fun things I could do with Creative Paperclay and Delight products!  I am so glad to be on this amazing team of people!  So, join me each month at Memories in Tyme, where you will get that challenge once a month to look at your calendar I talked about!  The best thing about that - you don't have to scrapbook to join THAT challenge!  See you in a few weeks with a few fun ideas, and at my other blog!!

Sticky Tip

Hello, I m Ann from The Design Team here at the Creative Paperclay® Blog  Design Team, I also have a blog at : http://annmakes.blogspot.com.  Today I have this fun tip to share.

Did you know that Creative Paperclay® sticks very well to chipboard and card board?  Well, I have tried it several times and it has worked well for me.  I have turned flat chipboard into dimensional embellishment by adding and sculpting Creative Paperclay®.

I found that by adding generous amounts of clay that go over the edge of a flat piece and spritzing with a bit of water  ensures success.  Once the project piece is dry then it can be enhanced in anyway. My preferred method is to use acrylic paints.  Such projects tend to be very light weight also making it easy to adhere them to a lot of surfaces: paper, card, and canvas especially.

So go through your own collection of forgotten chipboard pieces, or die cut some cardboard and transform them into clay embellishments.  Have fun!

Thank you for stopping by today.  Don't forget to pop over to my blog and see what other things I have to share.  I am here.

Best Creative Paperclay Tools Tips by Gloriann Irizarry

It is finally Summer. The weather is getting nice and hot. Now I have been ask about Creative Paperclay and what's the best tools to use so I will be answering this question to full extend today. Feel free to visit our Creative Paperclay Q&A Facebook page if full of many wonderful Creative Paperclay artist always helping others with any question you might have about Creative Paperclay .

Rollers are the best way to roll a clay sheet.
It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive a simple old aluminum foil paper roller will work.
Has long the cardboard is thick it should do the trick.

Aluminum foil is wonderful to create nice armatures and it is easy to bend and shape to most desired shapes. You can keep in the sculpt or removed the paper after the clay dry.

Freezer paper is great to keep the clay from sticking on your working surface.
Lay a sheet on your working table and can be use to keep the clay from sticking when you roll the sheets of clay out.

Stainless steel wires and foam forms are one of my favorites to use to create armatures for paper clay projects. They will save you time and money.

you can also use regular object like water bottles and foam to create intricate shapes.
The best way to keep them from falling apart is Hot glue. Now the trick is not to use high temperature but use Low temperature instead and let it fully dry so it nice and thigh.

Hobby knife and carving tools work great .

Any spray bottle can be recycle for you to use has a water clay mister

Paper tape is wonderful to create nice armature or use has fillers for your sculpt.

Flat brushes are my favorite to smooth the sculpt with water.

Now don't be afraid to try other tools like executers, texture plates or mold design or marketed for either polymer clay of cake fondant they work wonderful on Creative Paperclay . You will be surprise all the wonderful thing available out there for you. If you cant find a tool you like don't give up is always fun to make your own too.  Now the possibilities are endless all you need to do is let your imagination Fly.

I hope this help and feel free to visit our blog for more wonderful tips by many other great designers team members so stay tune .

Sincerely

Lynda's Tips

One thing I hate - is working hard on a project, and it just doesn't turn out EXACTLY as I envisioned it...and the project I am working on right now - is just that - not turning out how I want it to!  So, today's post is all about making mistakes, and how to correct some of the little things that happen!

  1. When you are working on flat pieces - flatten the Creative Paperclay product out first, and then cut a piece that is a bit bigger than the piece you are working with. Flatten out the piece so it is the same size all the way around.  This helps make your piece be perfect - all the way around!
  2. Use water to help with some of the smaller cracks as the piece is being dried - and to smooth out any of the imperfections of your project.
  3. If you want your piece to be perfectly flat - let it dry for a bit (12 hours) in the air, and then put a heavy object on top of it to keep the pieces flat to finish up drying.
  4. Make sure you sketch out your project - think about things a bit before hand, in order to create that "perfect piece"!
Spend time with things - if you know it is a more intense project, start earlier!  Don't be like me and wait until the last moment to get things done!  I can't wait to share with you my finished project, from the tips above!

Creative Paperclay Material Sanding Tips By Gloriann Irizarry

Tips and tricks by Gloriann Irizarry for Creative Paperclay®

Welcome back to your Creative Paperclay® Blogs spot. Today I have a great tip to finish and clean your Paperclay creations.

If your like me and like to have a clean sanded project you see your self all cover in white and spreading all the dust everywhere.

Well I manage to cut down on dust by reducing the amount of sanding by using a nice
soft square flat brush before the piece completely dry.

With the combination of these brushes and water will significantly reduce the amount of sanding.
Your probably wonder how, Well is not that difficult to do. Simply dab your brush in water once your done with your piece and before you place it to dry smooth any edges with the wet brush.
Make sure every so often you clean the brush in a washcloth to remove any Creative Paperclay® build up from the brush.  Once your satisfy with the look you can go ahead and set the piece aside to completely dry. I found this technique very helpful by cutting my sanding process in half.

If you smooth and rough edges before it dry with the brush it will less clay you need to sand off to make it look smoother. Keeping the brush with clean water will leave a nice smooth surface for you to work on when it dry. Go ahead try it. The softer the brush the better results you will get.

Another tip is also to get better results on your next  Sandits™  sanding project make sure you gently wash your Sandits™ tip with a toothbrush and warm running water. This will removed any fine Creative Paperclay® excess and give you the nice porous surface the tools need for your next project.

I hope these tips help you on your next Crafting project and remember.

Sincerely Gloriann Irizarry
