Creations Galore Gal, Megan Daul: Scrapping the Winter Months

Hello paper crafters! Here in Wisconsin, snow has covered the ground giving us lots of opportunities to go sledding, ice fish, and make good looking snowmen. We're embracing all this snow by sharing two winter layouts from Creations Galore customer, Megan Daul.

Megan is from Green Bay, Wisconsin and has contributed to our Customer Spotlight posts before. You can find more of her creations by visiting her blog, Creative Happiness.

Now let's take a look at these projects! Both are two page layouts and feature Bo Bunny papers, Glimmer Mists, and lots of snowflakes!

We love Megan's use of spray inks with these layouts. As you can see, the mist still shows up on dark cardstock, creating a shimmery, colorful background. It makes us feel like we're in the midst of the blizzard, with the spray ink wisping through the layout.

How creative is the use of silver cord as an embellishment? Megan used Glossy Accents to easily add the ribbon in fun loops around the layout.

Here's Megan's second layout. She stuck with the same color scheme, papers, and mists; however, incorporated a few other elements with this layout. For example, she cut out snowflakes from the patterned paper and used them as single embellishments. In addition, she used a fun ribbon instead of cording.

We love how Megan cut around the snowflakes in the corner of a patterned piece of paper and layered it onto solid cardstock. She also added clear rhinestones to the center of each snowflake.

A big thank you to Megan for sharing her gorgeous snow-themed pages with us today! We hope you've been inspired to document your winter activities!

Card Making And Spray Inks

Do you remember yesterday's tutorial on creating your own patterned papers with spray inks? If not, make sure to check out the post here. In that same post, we added the patterns to a scrapbook page. But what if you favor card making? Today we show you just how to incorporate spray mists into your cards.

You'll notice we added the patterned paper we created yesterday to the card. The pattern is sprayed with Dreamsicle Glimmer Mist and a Pink Paislee Misting Mat onto a separate piece of white cardstock, cut to size, and then adhered to the front of the card. We took the misting magic a step further by adding some ink to the background as well. Here's how you can recreate the look:

You'll need a collection of spray inks, a heat tool, and a craft mat.

Cut and score your card. We created an A-2 Card (4.25" x 5.5") for today's project. Place it on your craft mat with the front facing up. Place a paper towel or two inside the card to keep the ink from spraying onto the inside of card.

We started by spraying Vintage Pink Glimmer Mist onto the card front. In yesterday's post we discussed how to get an even spray. For this look, we sprayed close to the paper and kept the bottle in one spot rather than a left to right motion. This will create chunky uneven speckles of mist. We prefer to dab paper towel over the spots to pick up any excess mist sitting on the surface (see photo above). Note: If you dry the mist with a heat tool before dabbing with a paper towel, the larger drops of ink may run and splatter. This is a fun effect but was not the technique we wanted for today's card.

In addition to the light pink mist, we also added Paradise Pink Glimmer Glaze specks. Unfortunately, we don't have a photo for this step. The Glimmer Glaze comes with a built in paint brush. By flicking the brush with your finger, you'll achieve the same look. We even added a few more drops to the patterned paper once the card was assembled.

Market Street Stamps had their August release this morning, and Creations Galore is beyond thrilled to carry the new set of fantastic stamps. We've even used one of the sets, Great Big Greetings, for today's card. Just think of all the possible projects you could create with this one set!

We stamped one of the borders onto the card front before adding some purple cardstock and the patterned paper we created. The hardest step in creating this card? Deciding which sentiment to use.

We hope you'll try spray inks on your next card or project. And don't forget to stop into Creations Galore to check out our full collection of spray inks and paints, along with Market Street Stamps August Releases.

How To Add Spray Mist Patterns To Your Scrapbook Pages

Good Afternoon! There was an error yesterday that stopped our weekly Layout Tuesday feature from posting to our blog. Therefore, we've added a tutorial to the layout and sketch that was scheduled. If you've collected a few bottles of spray mist or been curious on how to incorporate it into your projects, we've got some info and step-by-step instructions just for you!

Here's the layout we created this week:

Between the three photos on this sketch are three grungy patterns in bold colors. Read on to see how we created this look.

You'll need to gather some supplies. The spray mists we used in this layout were from Tattered Angels. We used Blitzen, Dreamsicle, and Snowy Pine Glimmer Mist. There are many brands of spray mists to choose from... use whatever you have on hand. In addition to Glimmer Mist, we carry and love working with Adirondack Color Wash, a matte mist.

You'll also need paper and a mat to protect your surface. We cut our paper pieces to the size we needed for our layout and used Inkssentials Non-Stick Craft Sheet

To create patterns with the mist, you will need to gather some stencils. Glimmer Mist will easily wipe or wash off with water. The stencil we've used on this layout is from Pink Paislee.

Place the stencil over the surface you wish to spray. If using Glimmer Mist or a spray with glitter or glimmer particles in the ink, remember to shake your bottle in a right and left motion. Shaking the bottle up and down will cause the particles to clog in the mister. Holding the bottle at an almost upright position rather than horizontally will also prevent the mister from clogging.

Starting off the paper, mist from left to right, not getting too close to the paper. This will create a nice, even cover of mist. If you look at the images below, you will see the difference between holding the bottle farther away from your paper vs. close to the paper. Getting too close and creating a heavy mist will saturate your paper and cause the mist to travel under the stencil.

Wait a few seconds for the mist to soak into your paper before lifting up the stencil. You can also use a paper towel to dap any large drops of mist. From this point you can wipe off your stencil and mat, but why not use all that excess mist?

Let's turn that stencil into a stamp! There are two ways to transfer the mist from your stencil. The first: Flip the stencil over and lay it onto another piece of paper. Use a tweezers to press down the various parts to ensure a proper stamp. The second: Place the stencil onto the craft sheet with the misted side facing up. Place your paper onto the area of the stencil you wish to use. Use your fingers or a brayer to transfer the full image (see photo below).

Here is the difference in pattern:
Isn't that neat?! Another way to use excess mist on your mat is with the Drag Technique. In this technique you simply drag your paper through the mist on your craft sheet. You can also place it directly onto the mist-filled mat and lift up. Keep dragging, dropping, and moving the paper through the mist until you have a look that you like. See the two techniques below:

For the layout we shared with you today, we combined a few of the techniques. First, we stamped the pattern using a stencil. Then we dragged the edges of each piece in the Snowy Pine Glimmer Mist that was left on the mat. To add even more grunge, we placed each paper directly onto a few drops of leftover mist too.

Here's the final result:

Allow the paper to air dry or dry with a heat tool. Our favorite for drying mists is the Inkssentials Heat It Craft Tool. The Inkssentials Craft Sheet is heat resistant and works well with this tool. While drying the mist, your paper may begin to curl. Simply heat the backside and notice your paper flatten!

You can now add your pieces to your scrapbook page as you've officially created your own, unique patterned paper!

We added a few mistables to our layout as well. The dragonfly is a self-adhesive Glimmer Chip from Tattered Angels, and the 'july' was created with Idea-ology Grungeboard Alphas. We sprayed the letters and dragonfly with Charcoal Chalkboard Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

Use your spray mists on die cuts, chipboard, grungeboard, paper flowers, ribbons, and more!

And we didn't forget to add a breakdown of our layout. We'd love to see your take on today's sketch as well as you've incorporated spray mist patterns into your next layout!

We hope you've found today's post inspiring. Happy crafting!

Layout Tuesday -- Cricut Cuts and Glimmer Mist

Hello bloggers! It's a wonderful day here at Creations Galore. We're bringing you an entertaining page created by Nicole for this week's Layout Tuesday. How much fun do her friends look?!

Nicole started out with a piece of cardstock, originally the light blue color you see in the middle of the page. After spraying a few colors of Glimmer Mist onto a non-stick craft sheet, she dipped and dragged the edges of her cardstock in the Glimmer Mist. This creates the rough, distressed edges that you see in the layout, rather than the paint splatter effect created by spraying the Mist directly onto the paper.

The circles and letters were created from white cardstock using the Cricut Expression. Nicole sprayed blue Glimmer Mist onto the circles and left the letters white to create a neutral resting place for the eyes and tie in the white of the two photos. You can create this same effect with a circle cutter and alphabet stickers. The journaling was added with a White Sakura Gelly Roll Pen and Black ZIG Writer.

Thanks for stopping by today. We hope you've been inspired to add a little shape and color to your next layout!

It's Party Time!

Nicole, here, the Creative Genius of Creations Galore, and I'm happy to announce my hands are dyed green-blue! I really need to start using a tweezers while working with Glimmer Mist. It's been a fun morning creating DIY ideas for weddings, baby showers, and birthday parties -- escort cards, wish trees, table numbers, paper garland and more! Here's a quick sampling of the display found at Creations Galore.

What party craft would you like to see made into a step by step tutorial on our blog?
