A Project Runway Challenge- Mad Dash Mayhem

So guess what show came on last night??  Season 15 of Project Runway!!  I am always so inspired by this show- even though I'm a card maker and not very fashion forward lol!  I love the challenges, the fabrics, and the looks the contestants all pull together!  It's just so fun!  Last year I played along with some of the challenges- it was so out of the box for me and I had a lot of fun with it!  I'm going to be playing along this year too and thought I'd invite everyone to play along with me!  What do you think??

For this week's challenge, set your timer for 1 minute and gather a kit together.  You will use what you grab to make your card.  Don't forget to grab your scissors and adhesive- you probably don't have anyone to borrow from in your craft room, right?  (PS- who shows up for Project Runway without their scissors?)  Make a card inspired by one of the top 3 or bottom 3 looks.  Don't forget to show us who you are as a designer!  When you're finished, add your card to the link up below.  You'll have until Thursday, August 20th to play along with this challenge.

I pulled together a few supplies with Ashley's winning look in mind:

Here is what I came up with:

I grabbed my new Pineapples A Plenty Stamp set and die from Reverse Confetti for this one.  I knew I was going to use yellow and I was inspired by the cute pineapple t-shirt Ashley was wearing during the episode.  I also grabbed some tan and white cardstock, a circle punch, a sticker sheet from Bella Blvd and sticker stitches from SRM that were already on my desk, my favorite mist, gold thread, and a pack of sequins.  All of my favorites! :)

I kept the design simple going for a collagy look with a cluster at the bottom of the card front.  This is definitely all me- including a little sass with that sentiment! :)  Here's a closer look:

I hope you'll join me in the challenge!  It's just for fun but I might put together a little giveaway if I get enough people interested in playing along.

Another Card Inspired by Project Runway :)

So last week was the finale of this season of Project Runway!  I loved it!  The outcome was what I was hoping for too- I loved the collection that won!  The concept, the colors, the fringe!!  So cool!

I was inspired to create a couple of cards based on the winning collection but my attempt of stamping fringe did not work out the way I had hoped lol!  Here is one that did turn out though:

I cut a panel of watercolor paper to 4x 5.5".  I watercolored it with black paint, fading the color as I painted up.  I let it dry and then cut the notches at the top with a small hole punch.  I wrapped some orange twine around the top and ended where I wanted the tassel to hang.  I was envisioning this as the back of one of the dresses in the winning collection- wouldn't that be pretty along the shoulder blades?

I created a tassel out of the same twine and adhered it to the card.  I stamped the sentiment with Versamark and embossed it with liquid platinum embossing powder.  It's acting as my jewelry along with the star sequins that matched the powder perfectly!  Hee Hee!

I loved Amanda this season and was a little sad that she lost but I didn't like her final collection as much as I thought I would...  Maybe because it seemed like a toned down version of her.  I'm tacky and loved the crazy quilting and stuff she did!  :)  Are you going to watch the All Star season that's starting this week?  You know I am!  I haven't peeked at who's coming back but I'm hoping some of my old favorites will be on again- it's fun to see what they're up to now, isn't it?

Thanks for stopping by today!

Happy Friday!

Hello and Happy Friday!!  I'm looking forward to the weekend!  I'm heading out to a fiber festival tomorrow and on Sunday we are reworking our front flower beds :)  It's supposed to be sunny too!  I will be smiling the entire weekend I think!

This week has been one of those weeks though... we all have them, don't we!  I'm going to play catch up today and share two fun projects!  The first was featured on the SRM blog this week- a bunch of team treats I made for the girls' softball team:

I am seriously in love with these triangle treat boxes!!  I think every treat looks cuter in them, don't you?  I paired the treat box with this great stamped image from Mama Elephant, stamping it on vellum and diecutting it into a circle.  The scallop has been stamped too using a fireworks image by Lawn Fawn.  The softball sticker and twine are also bits you can find from SRM :)

My second project is my Project Runway inspired card from last week!  It was the American Girl challenge- can you guess who's design inspired my card?

Did you guess Sandhya's design?  I love her eclectic style and use of colors but that wacky outfit was definitely not my favorite!  lol!  I was inspired to create something from it though!

I stayed with the pink, added a bit of nautical and even a ruffle!  This cute little girl is from Avery Elle's Red and Goldie set- since it was an American Girl challenge, I had to include a doll!  :)

I'm not sure I'll play along with Project Runway this week- it was makeover week and I think it would be pretty tacky if I asked to makeover one of my friends cards lol!  I guess I could makeover one of my own... Well, we'll see if inspiration strikes! :)

Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Inspired by Project Runway's Rainway

Hello!  I have been swimming in a to do list over the last few weeks and finally found the end of it today!!  It's so nice to be on top of things again! :)  With my to do list in check, I had time for a little fun!!
I was so inspired by last week's Project Runway episode- the one with the rainway!  Did you see it?  I absolutely loved the winning looks!  I have been wanting to make a card based on Sean's dyed dress since it aired- I'm so glad I had time today!  Here is my card:

I created the watercolored background by punching circles out of tissue paper and watercoloring them with pink, orange, and yellow inks.  I let them dry and then mod-podged them onto a piece of white cardstock.  I love the way it turned out!  The circles remind me of the circle skirt on the winning look!  I also used the same dye colors Sean chose :)

I wanted a bold sentiment and pulled out this beautiful scripty one from the Make A Wish set by Mama Elephant.  I stamped it in black and added a few stars from the set to accent it.  The rest of the card was kept simple-a bit of black and white patterned paper at the bottom of a white card base and a little twine along the bottom of my focal panel.  I'm so happy with how it turned out!

Many people have looked at this and asked if it was a stamp set I used for the background- maybe one of my stamp designing friends will do a watercolor bubble stamp set for me??  Please?  :)  Hee!  That would be pretty cool!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I can't wait to see what tonights episode inspires!

Inspired By Project Runway: Episode 2

Hi!  Are you watching Project Runway tonight?  I just pushed play a few minutes ago but I'm enjoying it so far!  :)  Next week's card is going to be so fun!!
I thought I'd better pop on and share my card inspired by last week's episode- the unconventional movie challenge!  I was inspired to use an unconventional product of some sort and ended up using popcorn to stamp my background! I was also inspired by the awesome winning look- I loved all the wires and string hanging down over white with a pop of color.  Here is my card:

Didn't the popcorn create a fun look?  I used Delacata gold ink, (gold like Hollywood!) pressing my popcorn into it and then stamping with it on my white card base.  When it was dry, I added a wrap around velum panel to the top.  I stamped this fun bold sentiment from Paper Smooches Bold Buzzwords set.  I added some black and white striped twine, some peapod green solid twine, and some sequin trim around the card front to mimic the winning looks dangling wires.  I finished off my card with a few fun sequins from Jenni Bowlin Studios.

I think I smiled the whole time I created this card!  I love it when that happens! :)  It might have been the popcorn and candy I snacked on while making it- hee!  Gotta love the movie theme!

Inspired by Project Runway

Hello!  Hope your Monday is going well!  Mine is going... like a Monday... glad it's winding down.  Over the weekend I had a fun idea to play along with this season's Project Runway (which premiered last Thursday incase you missed it!).  It's one of my favorite shows and I'm always so inspired after I watch- I am going to try to make a card based on each episode.
This week, the designers received a chest full of random fabrics and they had to create a look using them.  I thought this was so fun!  I had my husband pick 6 random patterned papers from 6 different 6x6 paper pads.  Here is what he chose for me:

Not too bad! :)  I didn't have to trade like some of the designers did lol!  I used each one of these on my card, going with a quilt inspired look that would make the crazy patterns look like they were supposed to go together:

I added some cute stamps from Lawn Fawn, twine, and a doily to create a focal point.  I embellished with a flower embellishment topped with a sequin to add a little fun.  I colored the banner stamp with Copic markers in colors pulled from the papers as well.

It was fun challenging myself with this and I'm hoping that something from each Project Runway episode can translate to a card.  If they don't, it's OK. :)  I'll still enjoy watching them all!
