Hi there and Purely Collaged postcards

Hi I'm Jasmine.

Although I've been a member on here for a while, I've never managed to fathom out how to post an introduction or update other than to leave a message and even then not as successfully as i would like, so here goes.....

I've always dabbled on the artistic side and trampled my way through all different types of crafting and art, and although I love the beautiful nature of the chaotic and freestyle and would like be able to produce anything half as good as everyone here, I haven't yet managed to find the freedom myself, so my work ends up just teetering on the safe side, but I am trying and apparently that counts too..

Recently I've been doing the purely collaged postcard challenge swap, halloween coasters, circle journals and altered sardine tins, which I've added a taste of below.
Irene's before
After - sent to Rebecca
Irene's before

After - sent to Carmen .

I hope I can keep up with all your gorgeous work, and thanks for having me.

Non-Christmas Sardine Tins.

I had fun doing these- I tend not to be a glittery-snowy-person so i went for the non-Christmas themed group. It's taken me a while to put pics up - apologies for that

I received the Barbie tin and it floored me for a while- until my Steampunk tendencies emerged again :)

I had to tie her hair up

used a clock of course

and bits of other clocks I had handy (I tend to have stuff like that handy)

and tried a bit of 'tattooing'- not sure if it lasted tho.

And she ended up as Steampunk Barbie

The next one I received was 'Klimt' based and had a note about mermaids

I couldn't find any mermaids I'm afraid so i went for a fairy theme and thought this little person sitting among her jewels would look nice

This is the first time I have altered a sardine tin- I hope the results are pleasing to the owners- bit of an experiment really.

I also received mine back- and what a wonderful creation it turned out to be!!

Glorious!! I Love Crows!!

Christmas Sardine Tin Finale

The Christmas sardine tin swap with Lou and Sherry has finished and I enjoyed it so much. It was really inspirational and I have already thought of more ideas for more tins. These are the final layers for Sherry's tin which is now home. Apologies for the photos but the light is just rubbish just now. It rained all last weekend. I added a flying angel to the back of the scene Lou had created. I used my other deer for the front of the tin. I coated it with Distress Rock Candy and then rubbed silver Adirondack paint into it for the effect.
I made a hanger from beading wire and some snowflake brads I found in my stash. I also coated the wings with white microbeads left over from cross stitch projects. The blue beads were wired and then glued to the edge as they were a bit fiddly.
I also deepened the colour of back the tin using some Liquetex paint I had and then edged it with some sticky lace tape I have for the final tweek. I hope Sherry liked it and I love how the tins are all so different in style. Roll on the next swap.
My tin arrived home from Lou and it's just stunning. I borrowed her photo as it is so much better than mine. It's like a little shrine to Christmas and a great start to the season. Thank you both ladies for your fabulous work.

Psychodiva's Altered Sardine Can

This is how it arrived, with the crow unattached so I could add it wherever.

And the finished piece:

I must confess I was a little stumped, but thanks for Google!!  I clicked on Crow Animal Spirit, and all results referred to the Crow being "The Guardian of the Void", so the key seemed appropriate.  As I researched the Crow in the Animal Spirit World, the North American Indians refer to Crow Magik & Medicine, I'll not give too much away you can do your own googling, but these results lead to symbols for medicine  hence the staff with entwined serpents and wings aka The Caduceas, which was placed behind the Crow.  I added a painted plastic bottle top as the stand.

I love these kind of projects, you learn so much when you do the research for them and I become quite attached to the finished results.

Apologises for the photos, I just couldn't get the lighting right..

Sonja's Altered Christmas Sardine Tin

This is how it was looking when it first arrived waiting for layer3:

I added the big swirly star at the top and a small garden of star flowers and the words "Scatter Joy".   I toyed with the idea of adding bigger wings to the outside of tin but decided against it.
The garden of stars looks like this:

I've really enjoyed playing with these little cans, hopefully we'll do a few more in 2013.

Heads Up: I've had lots of problems with blogger rotating my pics, but by renaming them to .PNG seems to have resolved it.

Lou's Finished Altered Sardine Tin - Christmas theme.

Hi everyone, Sherry here.
This is how Lou's sardine tin arrived from Sonja.
It's lovely, the Father Christmas at the front really gave
the whole thing dimension.

I added three elements to the tin:

~ a string hanger at the top which can't
really be seen in the photo.  Sonja had added
string / twine all around the tin, so the hanger
seemed in keeping with that.

~ a star shaped bead hanging inside

~  Some foliage on the corner which extends
to the back of the tin too.  It's die cut from
Tim Holtz' Tattered Pinecone Bigz die
from Kraft-Core paper stuck onto Grunge Board and
distressed with sand paper.
(The back foliage is just from the Kraft-Core Paper)

I didn't know whether to add any more to the back
or the sides, but as it had a lovely finish already
decided to leave it as it was.

It's now on it's way to Lou - sent today by Recorded Delivery.

I really enjoyed this project and it'll be interesting seeing how
all the altered tins turned out.

Christmas Sardine Tin - Lou Stage 2

This is step two of Lou's sardine can that is now ready to post Monday after I had a senior blip and lost Sherry's postal address. This is what I got in the mail and the colour was lovely very burnished gold and vintage.
I keep various odds and ends that catch my eye and I had two deer from a christmas card I liked one year that had been waiting for that right something to come along. I used one of the deer while the other is actually heading for Sherry's tin that is half done already after arriving yesterday. I coated the base with texture paste and sequin waste and the used a Stampin Up shimmer paint when it was dry. The angel is from Lisa's Altered Art and I printed her out on cardstock so she was sturdy and could be mounted at the front of the tin. There was some cotton wool for the snowy effect. I also wrapped the tin with twine and then glued down some microbeads from my cross stitch stash. The wood veneer trees are Studio Calico embossed with some Blonde Moments UTEE.
I have really enjoyed this swap but stopping is an issue so there is something left for the other participants. I've got a Halloween tin on my mind just now as I've found the tins really inspiring. Sonja.x

Altered Sardine Can II; Layer 2

This is a NON Christmas Altered Can for Jazz.  Jazz mentioned a couple of theme ideas and I liked the idea of "In the style of KLIMT".   I've added lots of gold swirls inside the can and lots of wire and beads to the outsides, this was very fiddly and something I won't rush to do in a hurry but I do like the look.

Look forward to seeing the end result.

Christmas Sardine Can :Layer 2

Just finished playing with the sardine cans, having a great time with them.  This is Sherry's Christmas themed can after I've added layers of tissue paper, paint and then glammed up with some snowflakes and glitter.  I've left the outsides and wings untouched.

It's now ready for posting.

Altered Christmas Sardine Tin - for Sonja

This is how Sonja (wrightboysmum)'s tin arrived.
This is what it looks like now I've added a Christmas Angel.

The face is moulded from air dry clay,
the gown is fusible fibres, the hair is Angel Hair (what else!),
she has a beaded halo and some jingly Christmas bells.
The wings are metal charms coloured with alcohol inks.
I left the frame around the tin untouched
although I really wanted to add to it myself!
I'll be posting the tin onto Lou (PoshScot)
tomorrow for it's final stage of altering.

Altered Sardine Cans

My 2 cans all set for the next layer.

Christmas: The can has several layers of gesso, followed by red acrylic and then gold acrylic paint.  The paper inside the can is from my secret swapper, I do love all things spotty..

NON Christmas:  The can was covered in pages from a latin text book, then a layer of scrunched up tissue paper was added over this.  The dolls head is attached to a long screw, this is not secure as I think it will be easier to play with loose.

Girls feel free to get weird and wacky with these.

All packaged and ready for posting tomorrow.

Altered Sardine Tin - Sherry step 1

Hi All, Sherry here.
(post moved by Sarah)

I posted off my tin to Lou on Monday (8th Oct).
This is how it started out:

After several thorough washes it was ready
(the sardines in spicy tomato sauce were tasty by the way!)

I couldn't face gesso and drying and painting and drying,
so I took the easy option and covered the outside and lid with
Christmas sheet music using Liquitex matte medium.

I die cut one set of wings from the lid
and embossed them with a small patterned folder.

The wings are attached to the back of the tin with a gold brad,
so can be removed for posting.

I left the inside blank and the rim coloured with a gold pen.

I'm looking forward to what Lou does next -
how exciting!!
