radio silence.

things have been a little quiet over here the last couple of weeks...

a fortnight ago, on a sunday, i was putting together a 'my week' blog post, sitting down to some dinner with bb, and watching a little tv when our cheeky and much loved kitty started making a big racket.
he was meowing and yowling and hissing, quite obviously in a huge amount of pain.

we rushed him straight to the vet, where we were very quickly informed that things weren't looking good. a blood clot lodged in the artery feeding him back legs, a blood clot caused by a dodgy heart. a dodgy heart which had also filled his little lungs with fluid.
we made the incredibly hard decision to have him put to sleep, as even after a whole load of pain relieving drugs, he was still in immense pain.

it's been a pretty hard couple of weeks since we lost our little fella, and i don't think it will be something we get over quickly. to be honest, just while typing i've had a little tear up...

he was such a big part of our lives, always around to greet us after our days of work (or even just quick walks around the block) and always keeping us well and truly entertained with his crazy antics.

he;ll be missed everyday and be forever in our hearts.

my week.

showing off my tan saltwater sandals on the grass sampson captured under the lamp light, looking a little moody grilled asparagus with avocado and tomato on toast. oh and a cup of tea! a bag full of mail to be posted the first yellow rose bud of the season

this week saw me purchasing some new shoes! the only shoes i had that were suitable for summer were thongs (or flip-flops) which are NOT suitable for work in the least.
not any longer though as i secured myself this beautiful pair of sandals.
i gave them a test drive yesterday, wearing them all day at work and clocking up well over 10 000 steps in the process. not a blister nor a pinch. love them!

sampson had a super photogenic moment underneath the lamp earlier in the week. i took about a gazillion photos as he stood and posed like a model. it's a wonder what bugs in the lamp will allow me to achieve ha ha!

i whipped myself up this delicious breakfast on friday morning. i'm getting better at this cooking without animal products thing...

i had a whole bag of post to mail out this week! wedding invites are out and everything is feeling a little bit more real now. everyone knows all of the details and a few people have already sent back their rsvps. huzzah for mail!

and on top of all the above awesome stuff, the first rose of the season popped it's little head out.
this was early on in the week so there's quite a few more out too. hopefully i'll be able to keep on top of dead-heading the spent roses, which will keep them blooming all summer!

what did you get up to this week? what's flowering in your garden? what's your favourite thing to have for breakfast?

my week.

blue and white ben elke lunch bag, ready to be packed with a jar of salad, popcorn and an apple a trio of sweet treats, purchased from the home of vegan delights, smith and deli in fitzroy sampson the cat, lounging on and around everything i was using to put together my wedding invites on our kitchen table fat chips, grain salad and chargrilled corn at gazi restaurant in melbourne elderflower and cucumber, pear and basil, and watermelon, ginger and vanilla sodas at gazi melbourne

a delayed post today as i was working all day, and then just HAD to get out and enjoy some sunshine when i got home.
daylight savings, you are very welcome here!

my packed lunch efforts have continued through the week, salad jars and snacks all the way.
oh and there's my beautiful ben elke lunch bag too.. making this whole taking a packed lunch thing WAY nicer!

picked up some delicious vegan treats on my way to the finders keepers market on friday from smith and deli. not pictured is the bagel with vegan cream cheese i devoured beforehand. so much yum!

this beautiful boy was so very helpful while i was putting the finishing touches on our wedding invites earlier in the week. so helpful, much sarcasm.

and for ncb this week, the girls and i hit up gazi. they looked horrified when i said i wasn't going to be having any meat or cheese, but the food that i did eat was crazy good! as were the soda's that we washed our dinner down with.
mine was an elderflower and cucumber soda, which may or may have not been spiked with a wee shot of gin. it was the perfect beverage for a beautiful spring evening!

what have you been up to this week? eaten anything delicious?

my week.

only a couple of snaps this week... a monday to friday working week didn't leave a huge amount of time for fun, photo-taking shenanigans ha ha!

i caught the kitty, catching a sunbeam in the afternoon sun today. it looked so lovely, i basically joined him. so luxurious and relaxing.

yesterday revealed that i would be taking an impromptu interstate trip this afternoon, so there was a wee bit of plane knitting, a little beanie for a fabulous friend. as well as LOTS of cloud watching. hooray for window seats!

how has your week been? any little adventures on the horizon?

my week.

oops! this post seems to get written later and later on a sunday, though only because there's always lots of nice stuff happening.

check out the awesome socks that my mum found in downtown warburton yesterday (while i was working *sob*)
apparently, they're made up of recycled cotton, and i love that they kinda match, but kinda don't. so rad!

while bb was away this week, sampson had to stage a knitting intervention. i started on a colourwork beanie and got a wee bit obsessed (just one more row/pattern repeat...)
it wasn't so effective, as i got my patterns all done before i went to sleep. a very late/early night for me!

one of the few pictures i took from the girls weekend, was of my first loaf of bread in ages. resting in front of the just-lit fire.
the short amount of time i spent up there was pretty idyllic. great food, the most excellent company, some sweet and cheerful little ones underfoot and SO much knitting. dreamy really!

last sunday, i got to sneak in a few snuggles with the cutest of bunnies while chatting with a lovely gal pal. i don't know that he enjoyed himself, but i sure did!

ooh, and for those who were wondering, all of my mending jobs from earlier in the week... they're all done! i was a good egg and finished them all up before i pulled out the aforementioned colourwork, lucky too as it was nigh impossible to put down!

what happened in your week? have you ever snuggled with a bunny? are you a colourworker?

sunday snippets.

a few pictures, and some words, summing up the week that just was.

last night saw a wee trek into the city to catch up with some of bb's family.

i spent quite a bit of time knitting. walking through the city and knitting, drinking cider and knitting, riding the train and knitting.
these socks now just need a quick kitchener-ing and they'll be done! woohoo!

a quick breakfast before work...

whipped up with what i had hanging around in the fridge. grilled haloumi, garlic and chilli mushies, a poachy on a sourdough muffin from the freezer. so delicious!

the simplest things are the most entertaining.

i carried him around like this for a good half hour. i think he was spellbound seeing all the stuff he normally misses out on being on the ground.

i spent monday and tuesday of this week in the most wondrous place.

i can't ever see myself getting sick of being there, surrounded by scrumptious wool.

and a sweet treat on wednesday night.

ncb this week was in the city, at 1000£ bend. there was an n2 stand just across the road which was amazing to check out. i didn't eat this, but the lady that was going to was more than happy for me to snap a quick picture.
yes, that IS a donut covered in whipped cream on TOP of the milk chocolate, cookie studded ice cream.
the entire menu looked amazing, and i will definitely be going back!

what did you get up to this week? what is your favourite ice cream?

wiksten tank sewn in scraps from my stash in olive green tones

i spent the day yesterday with some lovely crafty ladies getting some sewing done! they're all quite experienced garment sewers so offered me great advice and helped me whip up this awesome number.
i am stoked with how it turned out, and already have plans to whip up a couple more of these tanks!

i spent a little time this afternoon exploring this wild backyard!

incredibly overgrown backyard at a property we are looking to buy in the country

there is a LOT going on back there, and i can only imagine the discoveries you could make in that jungle!

this guy was being his ever so helpful self last night.

sampson the ginger cat sitting in my fabric stash suitcase, covered in scraps

i spent a little bit of time going through my fabric stash, and couldn't help myself but make plans... more about that on tuesday though...

and the kombucha mother i started growing last week?

well it's coming along nicely! i can't help but think it's not too far away from being able to make some kombucha for real! it hasn't taken nearly as long as i'd anticipated it would!

what have you been up to this week?

this has been my staple lunch almost every day this week...

a bowl of spinach leaves, some tomato, cucumber, maybe some carrot and a WHOLE lotta goat's cheese. so delicious!

i've made a start on one of my goals for this month...

i'm trying to grow a kombucha mother, so that i can brew my own. it's something i've been reading up on for a little while, and, well, i'm doing it!
it definitely won't be a goal i'll get finished in this month, as it can take up to a month to grow the mother (or scoby as it's also called), and then the fermentation process for a batch takes another couple of weeks... i'll get there though!

sampson has been helping me with my knitting.

or helping me to not knit...

and i bought myself something lovely online which arrived in my postbox on thursday...

i do love brown paper packages, tied up with string.

particularly when they contain...

beautiful vintage dresses! sophie is having a wee instagram de-stash over at her retro adventures. be sure to check it out if you love anything vintage.

how has your week been? do you drink kombucha? what's your favourite thing to have in a salad?

sunday snippets.

playing along with {tinniegirl} and her sunday snippets.

a few pictures, and some words, summing up the week that just was. well, it's been a few weeks since i snippeted on a sunday, so it might be snippets from the last couple of weeks ha ha!

i cooked up a storm on one of my days off.
lemon curd, kale chips, lemon and lime cordial and jammy berries.

snuggling with this monster.

he always cuddles up to me just when i need to be getting up for work.

i've eaten a couple of these beauties so far.

they were delicious!! now to remember to keep the water up to them so i get more deliciousness to eat!

i bought a hat!

i realised that i didn't have a hat that actually provided shade to my face, the main purpose of a hat... so i found one. it's been modelled in the tea room at work, as evidenced above, but also used out in the sun over the weekend.
it works a treat!

and i tried my hand at green smoothies earlier in the week...

i had never made, or drank one before. it wasn't too bad but i think i'd change a couple of things next time i make them... mainly, i'd HALVE the recipe! way too much for one person, and too much for two people too to be honest!

what have you been up to this week? have you tried a green smoothie before?

sunday snippets.

a few pictures, and some words, summing up the week that just was.

tuesday, i had some rhubarb on my chopping board.
i cooked it up with some red wine and a few spices and it's now sitting in a jar in the fridge, ready to be spooned over steaming hot porridge during the week. yum!

a little pair of booties.

the commission order i was working on, all done and dusted and delivered!
pretty stoked with how they turned out, now just need to sketch down the pattern before it flits out of my brain!

this week's vegie box!

picked up yesterday and chock full of delicious goodies! am loving the amazing work these guys do!

and to supplement all of the above delights...

my own little rocket patch! i got to picking this the other night, thinking it was a big ol' patch of spinach... a closer look, and a taste test later, and i quickly realised it was ALL rocket! definitely not a bad thing and it gave the pesto i was making a bit more zing ha ha!

i was a bit cheeky when i headed down to the farm during the week, hijacking mum's oven.

totally worth it though, i had missed fresh crusty sourdough SO much! can not wait to get my oven back up to scratch (note to self: chase up with electrician tomorrow!)

this guy.

chasing sunbeams, on the one patch of bed sheet he could get to.
cutie pie.

and another look at those little birdies from last week.

so so SO adorable!

what have you been up to this week? care to share some snippets too?

i am so proud of this little bay tree with all it's new growth in the last couple of weeks.
just a little bigger before i start picking leaves for cooking i think. want to let it get nice and established first... and i should get through all of the store bought ones i have too i guess!

there's been lots of these kitty hugs happening lately.

sampson has been extra snuggly at the moment. particularly in the morning, normally just as i should be getting up and out of bed ha ha!

and these lily whites got their first showing of the season today.

this is about as tanned as i ever get. so you all better keep your sunnies on ok?

i've had a pretty massive week at work this week, so there haven't been a lot of pictures snapped to be honest... not ones that i haven't already posted here that is ha ha!
so instead of sharing lots of pictures, i thought i'd share a couple of cool things i'm liking at the moment too...

first up, lexi of pottymouth mama, is doing her annual frocktoberfest gig, to raise much needed cash for ovarian cancer research. it is somewhat of a silent killer, with no simple screening tests available, meaning that often it's not caught until it's too late!
there are lots of ways to donate, either by making a donation here, or there is this lovely shop partnering up with lexi to help raise funds, by donating a percentage of their sales for the whole month!
pop over and visit lexi to check out all her frocking antics, and sponsor her if you can!

i've also started reading the coletterie blog recently, and i am LOVING the round up post that sarai pens every friday. i find myself clicking most of the links as they're all so interesting to read! very cool!

ok, maybe i have one last photo...

this little guy popped out to say hello earlier today when i was moving my pots around. cute. potentially annoying and destructive, but cute ha ha!

what's happening on your sunday? what's something awesome you've read this week?
