Put Your Feet Up..."cheater" wine crate ottoman...

I bought this old wine crate at an occasional sale a couple of months ago.

No real plans, but I liked the mix of black and red topography.

Then, while sorting through my "To Paint" pile in my garage, I came across some of these wood candle holders...and I realized that upside down, they looked like short "spindle-y" legs.  I just happened to have 4 of them...imagine that?  So I painted them up...and screwed them on.

At first I just added a burlap tree bag...thinking I'd go for that "messy"look...

...but it wasn't quite right.

So I grabbed an empty bin from the basement...and "tossed" a pillow into the burlap bag...

...and tucked it in around the bin.

Much better :)
I know this kind of a "cheater" ottoman...but I like it because then when I get tired of it, I can use it for something else.  Fun for books, plants whatever...
What would you use it for?

Forever and Ever Amen Wall Art...a closer look...

Do you remember the wall art I showed you in my bedroom?

I told you a little bit about it when I did the "big reveal" of my "Big Girl" ladder bed canopy.  You can see the rest of that post...my most popular post X 10!!!...HERE :)

Well, I had so many comments and emails about the details of my little framed art back there...that I decided to do a quick post giving a closer look.  I promise you, it's REALLY simple...anybody can whip one of these up in a "jiffy"...

Basically, I just hung a big, fun, "robin's egg" blue, empty...perfectly chippy...frame on the wall.

Then I just grabbed a couple of old paperback books I had purchased out of the .15 bin at the Goodwill, and started tearing out pages.
I used a combination of stencils and stamps to add the letters and symbols with a foam brush and gray acrylic paint.
I think the key is to "mix it up"...tear the pages in different ways and sizes.  Keep it fun :)

After I decided the basic arrangement...I used wooden push pins to stick them right onto the wall...yep, it was as easy as that...

...TA DAAAA!!!

I think I'll love it forever and ever...AMEN :)

Hope this helps those of you who were interested!!  And in case you are wondering...because a lot you you were...that bedding was something I purchased at Target a few years ago.  It was from their "Casual HOME" line...and sad to say, I'm pretty sure I bought it on clearance, because that's how I "roll".  Sorry!!
(The bird pillow was also from Target, Dwell Studios for Target...and those cool Mr and Mrs pillows were (again) made by my friend Joan(Signs of the Times, on facebook

Sewing Table Parts...for pictures

I bought these little goodies at a show recently.  Would you have recognized them?

I knew because I had one of these waiting for me at home...the frame from the drawers off of a sewing machine table.

Like any good hoarder collector would do I bought the other 3 too :)
I knew just what I would so with them...

...wrapped in twine...

...ribbon for hanging...

...some "thankful" words...

...and a couple of fall photos of my little "pumpkins".
(These sweet pictures were taken 3 years ago now...time flies!!)

Can you stand it??

I am so VERY grateful...and blessed :)

And I still had one left...so I whipped this little home "sign" up too.

So now the question is...do I take the other frame apart to make some more to sell in our booth??  Decisions, decisions...

Hope you have a great week!!

Another Garden Tool Re-assigned...the perfect shovel for candles

You may have noticed a little "theme" going on here at CwC :)
I have been having fun playing and re-assigning some old garden tools to new "jobs" in my home...

This little shovel now holds a photo.

And in that same post I showed you how I used a hand rake "4 keys" :)

Then yesterday, I shared my version of the popular "Rake Wreath"

And today...last but not least...

...I'll show you this fun little shovel top I picked up at the Country Junk Sale last weekend.  Perfectly rusty, I just cleaned him up...sprayed him with a matte poly and put him to work holding some candles and a gourd.

And did you see my sign back there?  I bought that from my friend and "booth buddy" Joan from our new spot at Antiques Downtown.  Don't you love it?  It's on an old chair back...appropriate don't you think?  Sometimes we all need a little reminder...

The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.
Exodus 14:14

This verse has helped me through some "rough patches" in the last few months...and now it has extra special meaning to me because it reminds my of my friend Vicki at More Powerful Beyond Measure.  She is fighting the fight of her life against breast cancer.  After I read that post, I told her about Joan's sign in our booth and I told her that every time I saw it I would say a prayer for her...well Vicki, now it's at my house!!!  Saying even more prayers for you my friend!!

So I think that's the last of the "garden tool" posts for now...but probably not forever :)

Another "Retired" Garden Tool...rake wreath...

The other day I showed you a couple of garden tools living new "leisurely" lives as home decor...

(The rest of that post HERE)

Here's another idea that I've seen "out and about"...and so I thought I'd show you my version of the rake wreath :)

You know how I love to "embellish" things with clothes pins...

...and leaves.

And there you go...still bringing the outdoors "in" this fall.  Have a great weekend!!

Old Garden Tools...holding photos and more...

There is something I just can't resist about old garden tools...I "scoop" them up whenever I see them.

With the addition of some twine, an old key and a spiffed up magnet...

...it makes a fun and unexpected place to hold a photo...

...or two.

Or how about this old hand rake?

After using a hammer to pound back the prongs...

...it's a great place "4 Keys"...get it?

So how about you?  Are you "smitten" with old garden tools too?  What have you done with yours?  I've seen LOTS of fun ideas out there...and I have a couple more to share too :)
