After 3 sets of tubes, and many ear infections, it was time to get his adenoids out.
Gosh this kid is cheerful, he loves the ET finger that monitors him, it glows... And that's so cool!
He was just minutes away from the big event.
Here is our little boy waking up after surgery. He was grumpy and of course didn't want to drink the mandatory 4 oz of water to be released. He even threw the sippy cup- they warned that we'd see the worst of him.
But the amazing thing is-- what he did when we got in the car. While in the height of pain, his first phrase was 'mommy, AnnaLeigh needs her lovey blanket". Then on to "can she have my sippy cup". He was so concerned for her.
Kids amaze me with their innate Christ-like attributes to care for others in their height of pain.
I shared this with story my mom. She is in her final stages of breast cancer, and she is also in a lot of pain. She spends a great deal of her energy being self-critical for not being on her "A" game on a consistent basis when dealing with the pain.
I told her it was ok to have "throwing sippy cup" days given her circumstance; and to be self-forgiving enough to allow her own innate Christ-like attributes to come forth.

On the subject of pain, there was a really cool talk in general conference last april.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW0MIJJAGvw
It was called 'the atonement covers all pain". I totally suggest this to anyone dealing with physical pain. It talks of Christ's physical pain outside of gethsemene and on the cross.
He chose this separate pain during his mortal years so that he would know, really know, on a personal level how to 'succor' his people, and how to heal them on a very individual basis. see Alma 7:11-13.
For some reason I only associated His pain, suffering and afflictions with the garden of gethsemene and on the cross, despite scriptures stating he had experienced pain on all levels while he walked among the children of men.
Did you ever think about how interesting it is that he 'cried' when he learned of Lazeruth's passing-- though he knew fully that he had the power in his very voice to call him to rise from the dead, and that moments after those tears did that very thing- raise him from the dead?! But first- he cried.
He too had a very mortal reaction to the pains of this world regardless of his position as the central figure in the plan.
I gained a whole new level of appreciation for our Savior being the true hero that He is.
We focus so much on the actual final events of the atonement that we almost overlook His mortal sojourn, where he very appropriately learned how to overcome it all whilst 1st hand learning the pain of every single trial we could ever face.
How overwhelming to even lightly ponder the levels of self-sacrifice our Savior offered in our behalf. I stand all amazed!
