Handmade Gift Sets

I think these little sets would make a great gift, and I love making them.

1.  Fresh lime green wallet, emery board with cover, and top opening tissue cover

2.  Blue and brown (love those colours together) wallet, card holder keyring and emery board with cover

3. Paisley print wallet, cardholder keyring and emery board with cover

4. Bright floral card holder keyring and emery board cover

5. Another bright floral cardholder keyring with emery board cover

Not sure if I will make these available in the online store for sale, may just keep them for the next Farmers Market, or even in my box for gifts.

Reading back, I just realised I did not upload a photo of the last Santa I made as promised in February.  Will do that shortly

Until next time

Vintage Matchbook Needle Keeper

In my last post I used Vintage Labels from Just Something I Made as the backing sheet for my Needle Nanny. I then found that I had downloaded her Free Digital Download of Vintage Matchbook Covers some time ago.

So, with the little sewing gifts idea still in my mind, I printed these images onto card stock, cut them out and made them into Matchbook Needle Keepers.

Just score on the fold lines, cut a piece of felt to fit inside and then staple the felt inside the matchbook

Then to finish, add your needles, close your matchbook and you have a nice safe way to store your needles.

Quick and easy and inexpensive.

Till next time

Rice Bags

A blogging friend, Selina (find her blog here) sent me a rice bag kit and instructions before Christmas, however I did not get a chance to make any until now.  How I wish I had, they would have been a perfect gift for a lot of my friends.  Not to worry though, as I have now made them, and they are ready for gifting.

The outer covers:

The inner bags before filling with rice

The bag filled - you only 1/2 fill the bag with rice, so that it will move around and mold to your body.

The rice filled inner bag inside a cover

All packed up with a instruction label on the front

I filled four of the bags, and left the other four unfilled.  They will be ready to fill whenever a gift is needed.  Great idea to have these on hand for a quick gift.  Suitable for both men & women.

Selina gave a tutorial over on Sew We Quilt for these rice bags, you can find her instructions here

Update:  3 of the filled bags have already been claimed by family members ... that is a good sign!

The Kindness of Friends

One of my friends arrived yesterday with a bag full of tissue packs.  She knew that I was sewing for the Breast Cancer Bags and the Pink Ribbon dinner, so she thought this would help out in a little way.

It sure does, however the tissue packs she purchased were a different size from the ones I had been using.
They were narrower and thicker.  The pink pack is what I have been using and the green pack is the new size.

The sizes and instructions that I had posted here for the tissue covers would not work.  So last night I made a new one.  The basic instructions are the same, although the fabric sizes are a little different.

You will need to cut your outer fabric 5 1/2" x 6" and your lining fabric 5 1/2" x 7".   Before you turn right side out, box your corners.  Just a small amount, I used the width of my machine foot for judgement.

Notice how they look the same from the top

However, from the side and end you can see the boxed corners, which allows the tissue pack to fit in nicely.

The new tissue packs do not have a slit in the middle, they are top opening, so you can use your scissors to make a slit down the centre, very easy, or you can remove the tissues from the plastic covering and pop them straight into the new cover.

Just a couple more, for practise.

As the Spring weather has deserted us this weekend, and it is back to cold wintery weather, I may use this as an excuse to try and make a tissue cover that opens from the top this afternoon.

I will let you know if I succeed.

Have fun

Fat Quarter Gift Bags

Are you like me, always looking for a new way to present small gifts.  I came across a quick and easy pattern to make a gift bag from a fat quarter and it also has two little hideaway pockets.  It is lovely and stable due to the way it is folded.  Are you intrigued?  Do you want to see mine?  Do you want to find the blog of the talented Australian lady who has the tutorial?

OK, I will not keep you in suspense ...

Photos of the first two I have made... let me tell you that many more are going to be made and put in my gift box

For a Sewing Friend
Xmas bag
This Christmas fabric bag is for my best friend, who like me, loves everything about Christmas

You can find the instructions here from Kelly Rachel at "em ay kay ee" - {Make}.
Now the challenge, I dare you to make ONLY one!

Have fun

Hot Chocolate Cozy

My niece requested a "coffee cozy" for her hot chocolate that she purchases from the school canteen.  If possible could it be green with kangaroos.  After going through my fabric stash I came up with this ...

Creative weekend (no photos)

Although I do not have the photos to prove it (yet) I had a very creative weekend.  The weather was wet, cold and miserable, so what better way to cheer myself up than to craft?

I finished -
It was too dull to take photos, either inside or outside, so will load them up later in the week.

Believe it or not, I also had time to do the housework, grocery shopping, bake, visit, process and post orders - all in all - a great weekend

Hope you had a great one also
Judy
