See Thru Peach Plate

My folks came up to visit us for a little while, so painting slowed down. But I still have a few more peaches. Here's one with my lovely orange, glass plate that I rediscovered. So fun to paint.

Peach in the Shadow of Blue

I made a little video of this one, but focused on the back peach. So you'll see how I paint it, stroke by stroke. The bonus is that the music was created by my brother Joe! : ) You can find more of his music at Flow State Records.

Watching Peaches Ripen

Simple compositions help me really focus on my main subject. Out of all the peaches I've painted, I feel like these are the peachiest.

Separated by Peaches

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - OIL - starts at $100)

Sometimes a painting is so very much like I envisioned, and I feel so satisfied, that I want to do a mike drop and walk away. This one is that for me. It's not a feeling I have often. AKA, paintgasm.

When Blue Eat Peaches

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - OIL - starts at $100)

My favorite "moment" in this painting is where the top-right part of the bowl that's in shadow from the top-most peach, edges up (visually) against the blue that is behind the bowl. The value is almost exactly the same - almost. I bet you spotted it right off.

Please Protect Us

Oh the antics these peaches get into with my dishes. As best I can guess, they were playing tag, the plate was it, and the blue cup was base. Or was it something else...

Peaches Approach Cup

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - OIL - starts at $100)

I found some beautiful peaches at the store, but had to pay extra because they are organic. The regular ones were not nearly as beautiful, which is not often the case. I think they had just been picked over. So I'll be doing as many paintings as I can before these are too soft to handle.

Just Peachy, Thanks

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - OIL - starts at $100)

You may recognize this one from before. It went on a long journey but never quite made it to it's rightful place. Long story, but now it's come back to me, and I'm redoing the auction.

Meanwhile I am spending time with my ipad and writing down all my impressions of every art app I've used. I'll post that soon...

While the Monster Sleeps

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. OIL - starts at $100)

These peaches are sneaking past the monster's bowl (and knife) while he sleeps. Are they escaping? Will they make it?

Basking in the Blue Bowl

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - OIL - starts at $100)

Every once in a while I become super productive with painting and finish a whole bunch in a short period. It's not because I'm driving myself - it's because I'm just really into it for whatever reason! Sometimes this comes right before a forced break (like the universe knows!), and that is what happened this time. I woke up the other morning with my back/neck all messed up again and not able to do much besides sleep and sit. But fortunately I still have paintings to post, and will do so until I run out or heal. Hopefully healing comes first. : )

One thing I can do during this break is put together new little books. I've put together one so far and contacted a local printer. Hopefully within a month or so I will have these available for you!

Just Peachy, Thanks

I love how peachy my studio smells when I'm painting these guys. They smell like summer in Texas. Ahhh, memories.

Just Peaches 1 & 2

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - starts at $100)

Tomorrow I will set off for the last trip in a flurry of summer trips. I saved the best for last - I'm headed back up into the Sierra's to paint and camp with friends for 5 days! Unfortunately this means I won't be able to ship until I get home (August 20th). I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and hope that no bears (or fires) eat me or cause further delays.

I am leaving you with two more peach paintings. I decided to really and try to study these guys, without the distractions of other objects. Sometimes I feel like I need to spend a month with each object in order to really begin understanding it.

Shiny and Dull

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - starts at $100)

I did this one with a cool light instead of the halogen I used on the last two. Because of it you can see a little more of the blues and purples in the peaches.

Driven to Drink

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - starts at $100)

Here's my second attempt at these peaches. Actually, it's the third - the second didn't make the cut. These little buggers are more difficult than they appear (hence the title).

Peachy Blues

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - starts at $100)

The thing I have learned about painting peaches, is that you have to add white to pretty every color in them. Often it's just a tiny bit. But they don't look like peaches otherwise.

Penitent Peaches

A student of mine gave me this beautiful glass plate, and it finally found it's place in a painting! The peaches absolutely adore it. Maybe it's because of their complimentary colors.

Plump Peaches

Recently Random House (the publisher of my book) asked me to write a (short) blog post for their "Books for Better Living" blog. It's called "Add a Daily Dose of Art to Your Life," which is my theme, I guess : ).

Peaching on the Corner

sold

I didn't take many, but here is a collage of pictures from our recent vacation on Lopez Island, created using PicMonkey. It's always a good vacation when you loved it but are happy to be home! And that is definitely the case this time. I painted these peaches before we left but didn't have time to post them. I thought of the title all by myself and am quite proud of it.

Peach Intervention

sold

Once in a while I feel the need to revert to old Carol, with simple objects and simple compositions and well, no faces! Just peach faces. With complicated social dynamics. Because you know the peach closest to  us has a drug problem. And the others are concerned and they've decided to talk some sense into him. Will it work? I don't know. Because he likes the wild and crazy colors he sees. And he thinks maybe the others just don't want to see.
