Newton's Nook Designs' Inky Paws Challenge #36 ~ Halloween

Hello everyone!  It is time for another FUN Inky Paws Challenge from Newton's Nook Designs!  The theme for this challenge is 'Halloween' (Booooooooo!)

I opted to make some treat holders rather than a card and give some of our older sets a little love in my project:

Halloween Treat Boxes by Crafty Math Chick | Newton's Perfect Pumpkin, Happy Halloweenie and Spooky Street Stamp sets by Newton's Nook Designs

I used some petite pre-cut orange treat boxes I had in my stash for years, cut a little patterned paper from The All Seasons stack by the Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby and used some of the smaller accent images from NND's new Dress Up Doxies (I paper pieced the little pumpkin treat bucket so it would stand out against the green punched circle), Spooky Street, and Newton's Perfect Pumpkin stamp sets along with a few festive shaped sequins I purchased at Michaels two years ago.  Purr-fect for your favorite halloween candies no?

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you will play along too because the Challenge winner will receive a $10 store credit to our online store and a Inky Paws Challenge Top Pick Badge to add to your blog! If we get more than 15 participants, we will choose two winners so be sure to tell your friends to play along!

You have TWO WEEKS to play along - Deadline to enter is Friday, October 7th, 2016 at Midnight CST. The winners will be announced on the NND blog.  Good luck!  And have a great weekend!

Newton's Nook Designs' Inky Paws Challenge #23 ` Summer Lovin'

Hello Everyone!  Today a new Inky Paws Challenge begins at Newton's Nook Designs!  The new theme is 'Summer Lovin''.  I decide to use some fun popsicle images from the new Summer Scoops set along with an accessory & sentiment from Newton's Summer Vacation to create this fun summer card:

You're Cool Popsicles Card by Craft Math Chick | Newton's Nook Designs

I colored the popsicles to match this fun popsicles paper from Echo Park's Fruit Stand 6x6 pad.  I took the 'You're a cool cat' sentiment from Newton's Summer Vacation and used a marker to just ink up the 'you're' and 'cool' and stamped it on Crushed Curry cardstock and punched it with a 1 1/4" circle punch matted with an orange 1 3/8" circle to resemble the sun.  Then I thought it would be fun if the orange creamsicle were wearing shades, so I stamped the sunglasses image from the same set on Baja Breeze cardstock, colored in the lenses with a black marker, cut them out and paper pieced them onto the creamsicle.

So what is your favorite ice cream treat?  Mine is those Strawberry Shortcake bars?  With the crunchies on the outside and that yummy strawberry center in the middle?  That was always my treat of choice when the ice cream man visited our neighborhood as a child.

Are you ready to get your paws inky with us and play along to win a prize?  The Challenge winner will receive a $10 store credit to Newton's Nook Designs' online store and an Inky Paws Challenge Top Pick Badge to add to your blog!  AND IF there are more than 15 participants, Jen will choose TWO winners, so be sure to tell your friends to play along too!  Please visit the Newton's Nook Designs' blog for all the details!

Can't wait to see what YOU create!  Have a happy Friday!

Shark Week - Day 3

(NOTE - since Shark Bites is ALREADY sold out, Jen is offering an alternate sale, please visit the NND blog for details.)

Hello!  Today is it Larissa's & my turn to show off Newton Nook Designs' newest set -- Shark Bites:

(Am I the only one who had a flashback to Finding Nemo's 'Fish are Friends - not Food!' sharks' meeting?  LOL!)  I decided to use two sharky images to make it look like they were having a casual conversation with speech bubbles created with my EK SUccess punch:

Shark Grab a Bite card by Crafty Math Chick | Shark Bites by Newton's Nook Designs

I decided to stamp the shark images on grey cardstock and then paper piece the white bellies onto them.  Can I just say, it is TRICKY trying to cut around those jagged teeth!  LOL!  The designer paper is from Creative Memories watercolor collection, and it looks like it has been watercolored IRL even though that effect might be lost in this picture.  The waves up top were created with a Fiskars punch as well.

Well, I hope you like my card, I will say it is the first one I can recall using sharks on, LOL!!  Don't forget to check out Larissa's blog too - I am sure she has created something spectacular for you to see as well!

Newton's Nook Designs' June Release ~ Day 1

Hello!  Welcome to the first day of sneak peeks for Newton's Nook Designs' June Release.  Some ADORABLE sets this month I tell ya!  Allow me to introduce, the very versatile 'In Slow Motion':

Aren't all the little critters endearing?!!  There is even a sloth!!  And this set covers everything from birthdays (on time or belated) to just saying hello for no reason at all.  First I used the happy snail to create a belated birthday card (sadly, a lot of birthdays are springing up on me lately before I have time to get cards out):

Snail Mail Belated Birthday card by Crafty Math Chick | In Slow Motion by Newton's Nook Designs

I cut think 1/4" strips of red & blue cardstock from my scrap envelopes and pasted them at a diagonal to mimic the postal lines you see on a lot of envelopes (and tried coloring in the snail's letter that way around the edges too) - a great way to create a background and use up some scraps at the same time right?  After all, every day is Earth Day!  ;)  I used a little postage stamp punch by Martha Stewart to create some faux stamps so I could stamp the postmark from the set over them.

For my second card I planned to go really CAS with the cute little inch worm and some tape measure ribbon I found at Michaels (it is authentic too, I lined it up with a ruler and the increments are accurate!):

Inch Worm Birthday card by Crafty Math Chick | In Slow Motion by Newton's Nook Designs

At first I was going for a stark CAS look with just the wormie and strips, but then I thought the top needed a little something, so I paper pieced the party hats in colors matching the sentiment strips under the tape measure.  So, which is your faovirte and why?

Would you like to win 'In Slow Motion'?
This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!!

Newton's Nook Designs May Release ~ Day 1

Welcome to the first day of Newton's Nook Designs' May Release!  Today we are debuting a set perfect for get well soon cards, scrapbooking the recovery of your furry family members or thank you cards for your favorite veterinarian, introducting 'Newton's Sick Day':

Aren't these images and sentiments purr-fect for all kinds of cards surely to perk up anyone 'feline' under the weather?!!  I could not wait to ink them up!  The first card I created is a masculine get well card (don't have nearly enough of those in my stash):

Sick Kitty with Kleenex card by Crafty Math Chick | Newton's Sick Day by Newton's Nook Designs

Can you see I used a tiny piece of real Kleenex for Newton's tissue box?  I paper pieced it to match the background patterned paper (which is from a retired Stampin' Up Patterns Pack I believe).  The kitty image is colored with Copic markers, I tried to make Newton's a greyish version of a Siamese fur pattern, not sure if such a cat exists in real life...

And don't you dog lovers think this set is just for the cat lovers either!  Just check out my second card:

Doxie vet thank you card by Crafty Math Chick | Newton's Sick Day & Dleightful Doxies by Newton's Nook Designs

I drew in a tummy bandage on one of the cute doxies from NND's Delightful Doxies set, colored him like my Ty baby, and fussy cut him out.  Then I created the big 'Thank You' sentiment using the tiny (and can I just say adorable?) image from the set (yeah, a whole lotta paper piecing here too, luckily those little baidaids are easy to cut out) and placed the doxie out in front (so the vet would know who was sending the card of course).  I am totally going to use these two sets to scrapbook Ty's surgeries too (yep, the poor little thing has had more than one!).

Would you like to win 'Newton's Sick Day'?
This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!!

Newton's Nook Designs January Release ~ Day 2

Welcome back for the second day of Newton's Nook Designs January Release!  Today 'Newton Dreams of Paris' makes its debut, with lots of images and sentiments perfect for valentines day, anniversaries, any expression of love, scrapbooking trips to Paris or even just saying hello - how's that for versatility?!!

Just seeing the images in the package gave me the impression that little Newton in the lower right corner was looking up at the Newton kitty in the air balloon, so I went with it with this card:

(please click on the photo for a larger image).  The background is from Echo Park's 'Be Mine' stack - lots of great pinks, greys and black & white in that collection (lots of Parisian elements to coordinate with this stamp set as well!) so I did a bit of paper piecing here with both Newton's and all four air balloons.  I don't know if it shows up in the photo, but I added some glitter glue to the hearts on the card for an added touch of sparkle, cards are more festive with a little sparkle, right?

Newton's Nook Designs ~ Inky Paws Challenge #16

Hello everyone!  It's time for another fun Inky Paws Challenge from Newton's Nook Designs!  Jen is in the holiday spirit a little early and has picked this fun theme for our latest Inky Paws Challenge - Christmas!!

(isn't that wreath pretty?)  I decided to begin on Ty's yearly holiday doggie treat for his neighborhood doggie friends:

Petco has these CUTE doggie treats that look and smell like real Hydrtox cookies.  I first found out about them when Ty was a prize at this year's 'Pooch Plunge'  - they were SO cute!  I was excited when I learned that that came in festive holiday colors this time of year, perfect for puppy gift giving!  I created this little goodie bag using some of last year's collection of MME's holiday 12 x 12 stack and tried to position the 'Noel' in the middle and the 'Happy Howl-i-days' sentiment underneath it using a Word Window punch.  I paper pieced a portion of the paper that has a heart on it for the body of Ty's sweater and thought it would be cute to have him resting on the 'NOEL'.  I took a snowflake wooden  veneer and dragged it across my Ridinghood Red inkpad a few times to give rustic look that matched the treat bag a little better, and stuck a gold pearl by Queen & Co. in the center.  Popped the treat inside and tied the bag up with some Ridinghood Red ribbon and sparkly golden twine and VOILA!  Done!  Now to make about 10 more of these - I need more puppy Oreos too!  LOL!

Of all the dogs in Jen's CUTE doggie sets, I think this little pup from Canine Christmas looks the most like Ty (though ALL of her pups are wicked cute!!):

Hope you will play along with us!  Jen is giving you THREE weeks to play along this time for a chance to win a gift certificate to the NND store, and if there are more than 15 entries she will pick TWO winners!! - how generous is that?!!

Thanks for stopping by!  Can't wait to see what you create!

Since I have used Jen's cute critters in my Christmas themed creation I am also entering this goodie bag in Naughty or Nice Challenge's 'Festive Furballs' Challenge (mine is 'nice' - don't you think?).

Healing Thoughts Recessed card

Hello!  Lately I have WAAAAY too many friends hurting themselves or getting sick (I need my friends to stay healthy and stop hurting themselves already!  Poor things!!) so I have quite a few 'get well soon' cards to make.  This one I made for a friend I originally met on youtube, and got to know a little better on FB, for her hubby that had a horrific accident (he is going to be fine, but he is pretty banged up and broken for a while until he heals).  I got the idea for it from Stamp TV's October Release Party Challenge - to make a recessed card.  Haven't made one of those in a while.

The teddy bear isn't too childish for a grown man, is it?  I used the teddy bear image from 'Under the Weather' by Gina K. Designs and paired it with the above sentiment, which I thought was more appropriate for someone who was not sick per se, but healing... a lot...  I colored the bear with my Copics (E59, 57, 55) and paper pieced his paw pads & bandages using some papers from Gina's 'Poolside' collection.  In retrospect, I wish I had used teenie wooden buttons instead of the black rhinestones, more masculine.

Additional Challenges:
Kitty Bee Designs Aloha Friday Challenge #34: dies or punches (I used a die to cut out the recessed window)

Thank you for taking the time to look at my card!  Have a great evening!

Newton's Nook Designs August Release - Day 1

Hello Everyone!  Time for another adorable release from Newton's Nook Designs!  WOO HOO!  Today we are revealing a set featuring several cute critters called "Hanging Around":

See?  Told you they were cute!  I couldn't decide which to feature so I decided, 'why choose?' and used 'em alllllll:

I've seen card in the past that have critters stamped on patterened papers and I always think it looks so nice so I decided to give it a try with a bunch of coordinating prints from DCVQ's Flower Shower mat stack (they were a bit thinning than their 12 x 12 stacks and easier to fussy cut, and there was a whooooole lotta fussy cutting going on on this card!) and most of the critters have two different prints on them.  They all have popped up sections and were designed to look like they were grabbing on to that pretty piece of Twinery Twine 'held' in place by the shiny little clips (though capturing their shine without glare was difficult).  So, you likey?

Would you like to win 'Hanging Around'?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

Newton's Nook Designs July Release - Final Day

Welcome back to the fourth and final day of reveals for Newton's Nook Designs July Release.  Today we are featuring the cat that started it all - Newton - having some fun in the summer sun!  Introducing 'Newton's Summor Vacation":

Aren't these images just precious?  Since my craft supplies are limited while I unpack, but our sunblock isn't (I am on several prescription medications that increase photosensitivity, so I burn really fast, sorry if that is an overshare).  I decided to make a cute tag for our SPF container:

Newton's little sunglasses are actually stamped on silver paper and paper pieced.  How cute would it be to make fun tags or bottle bands for SPF containers passed out at sporting events or pool parties?

Would you like to win 'Newton's Summer Vacation'?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

This Little Light of Mine...

Hello Friends & Followers!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend and took a moment to reflect upon and thank everyone who has sacrificed to insure our freedom and how much we have to be grateful for, I know I did.  Sorry my posts have been so few & far between lately - we've been packing to prepare for a move and all the 'fun' things that accompany one!

I am featured on the Newton's Nook Blog today with a little luminary I created using an electric tea light and the lamp image from 'Around the House':

Isn't it a cute way to 'bright up' someone's day?  It's really easy too!  I simply stamped the lamp image on a sheet of navy cardstock (wanted something dark for the greatest contrast) and cut out the shade with a craft knife.  I stamped it a second time on some patterned paper and paper-pieced the base on, and then stamped the image a third time on vellum and colored in the chevrons using some alcohol markers (I let them dry overnight).  I cut around the lamp image, leaving a rim to tape into place on the back side of the navy cardstock and wrapped it around an electric tea light and - VOILA!!  Homemade luminary!  Oh yeah, I added a little glitter glue to the 'pull switch' as well, so it would show up against the navy background.  See how easy that was?  I hope you like it!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton's Nook Designs March Release - Day 3

Welcome to the third and final day of Newton's Nook Designs' March Release.  Today we are revealing 'Basket of Wishes' - a set perfect for so many occasions with its variety of images you can fill the pretty basket with.

Don't you just love versatile sets like this?  I sure do!  For me, the gardening insert drew me in and I knew I wanted to use that image and make a seed packet using THIS easy tutorial from Dollar Store Crafts and some pretty kraft designer paper from Recollections' Garden Harvest collection (I know you can't tell from the photo, but the tomatoes and carrot in the DP are actually sparkly!):
(Please click on the photo for clearer resolution).  Can you tell I paper pieced the gardening gloves with a scrap of floral patterned paper that I used for the duckie's umbrella on Day 1?  (you know how gardening gloves always seem to have bright floral patterns on them, right?)  Every Day is Earth Day after all - reduce, reuse, recycle!!  I can't wait to plant that basil - did you know even after you pick basil it can live up to a month in a vase of water in your window sill and continue to make your house smell delicious?  And I LOVE cooking with fresh basil too.  What is your favorite thing to grow?  Are you more of a vegetable, herb or floral gardener?  Would love to hear in your comments!  Speaking of comments...

Would you like to WIN Basket of Wishes?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

Newton's Nook Designs March Release - Day 1

Hello again!  Today the March release for Newton's Nook Designs begins!  YAAY!  Today Jennifer is introducing Spring Showers:
Spring Showers is a 3x4 stamp set that includes 10 stamps (4 images & 6 sentiments) and is perfect for a variety of get well soon cards, baby & bridal shower cards, and anytime you want to shower someone with kindness or love!  I never seem to have enough get well cards in my stash, so that was direction I went with my sneak peek creation today:
(please click on the photo for clearer resolution).  I created a cloud template and sponged some grey ink to create the stormy skies and cut out a freehand grey cloud and stamped the tiny white cloud from the set.  The cute duck was colored with Chromatix markers and then I added a little Studio G glitter glue (which is just as sparkly as Stickles IMHO, even flows a little bit better) to the raindrops and puddles to make them sparkle.  I paper pieced the umbrella with some springy flowers from a stack by the Paper Studio.  Here is the inside (I wanted a transition from the grey clouds lifting to reveal sunny skies):

Would you like to WIN Spring Showers?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

The First Inky Paws Challenge

Hello again friends & followers!  I had a lot of fun today participating in the first challenge presented by a new company: Newton's Nook Designs ~ I really like their cute images (and yes, I have already been hinting on their FB page how little Newton kitty needs an image of a puppy friend to keep him company, heh heh heh).  I like my new stamps so much that I created two cards with their sketch for their first Inky Paws Challenge:
My first card uses some cute kitties in their 'Newton's Antics' set and some papers that I LOVE from 3 Bugs in a Rug (I LOVE the papers from this company!):
(Please click on the photo for clearer resolution).  See?  Told you they were cute!I paper pieced the kitties with papers that had more subtle designs so their features would not get lost and left the cute kitty patterned paper for the background.
I am also entering this card in the following additional challenges:

For my second card I used their 'Just Say Cheese' set.  I opted for coloring with my Copic markers and using dry embossing instead of paper piecing and patterned papers for this card:
The background Spots & Dots embossing reminded me of the holes in the swiss cheese image, and then I embossed some silver cardstock with my Swiss Dots EF and cut it at an angle and added a little 'handle' from scraps at the top to make the shape resemble a grater rather than just a plain rectangle.  Unfortunately, it was too difficult to save the cute little mouse's tail in the process of cutting him out, so I gave him a tail made of a short piece of grey embroidery floss tied at one end so it wouldn't fray.
I am also entering this card in the following additional challenges:

So, what do you think?  Do you love Newton's Nook Designs as much as I do?  You can play along with their challenge too!  There is a freebie digi image on their site you can use, so why don't you join us, you still have the rest of the day and most of the evening to play along...  hope you will!

Dare to Get Dirty Challenge - Post 9

Hello Friends & Followers!  So nice to have you back again to see more of my cards created for the Dare to Get Dirty Challenges on SCS.  Since the deadline is this evening, they will all be finished before midnight.  My first card allowed me to use my new-ish 'Glimpse Inside' set from Taylored Expressions along with all the CUTE coordinating dies like the arched window and the window accessories (and I got to COLOR - WOO HOO!)
(Please click on the photo for clearer resolution).  I wish I could remember who made that cute red woodgrain paper (Studio Calico perhaps?), I know the paper pieced wallpaper is from that Season's Greetings stack by Echo Park that I have been using so much lately.  I added some Queen & Co. brick red pearls as the tree's glass ornaments and add some sprigs using Martha Stewart's punch to the little window box.  I do like how this one came out.  I am also entering this card in the following additional challenges:
When I saw the patterned paper I used in the second card I have for you in this post I knew it would make a pretty card with Asela Hopkins' 'Pretty as a Peacock' set.

and I love the colors in it (it is really so vibrant IRL - I paired it with Eggplant Envy, Lucky Limeade, and Bermuda Bay) and I know I will be using this color combo again!  The sentiment and peacock were heat embossed with black EP and I sort of spotlighted the square with Bermuda bay.  I am also entering this card in Crafts and Me's Anything Goes challenge (I think it is just too pretty not to show off).
Alright friends & followers - I have one more DTGD challenge cards post later this evening for you, so I hope you will revisit tonight or tomorrow to see them!
