Happy 4th Anniversary Newton's Nook Designs!!

Hello everyone!  Newton's Nook Designs is celebrating their 4th YEAR ANNIVERSARY (WOO HOO!) and Jen was kind enough to ask me to play along with the current Design Team members.  I was so honored and humbled.

Earlier this week Jen debuted the new Winston's Lake House stamp set and its coordinating die:

Well the current Design Team members really knocked it out of the park showing off this new set with their beautiful creations.  When I first saw this stamp set I was really drawn to the loon bird (did Jen hit it out of the park with this illustration or what?!!  She even got the petite white stripes on the bird's neck!  Way to go Jen!)  and the goofy romantic sentiment 'I'm still looney for you' - it is just the kind of thing my hubby would love to get from me for our anniversary, Valentine's Day, or as a little love note (probably because he thinks I am a little looney, LOL!) so I made a card I thought would appeal to him on the masculine side:

I thought the black & white polka dot paper complemented the white dots on the loon's back nicely and created a little eyebrow for expression simply by not coloring that part of the head in black.  I added a little pop of color with the red flag and red rhinestone hearts.

Jen also introduced a brand new line to the Newton's Nook Designs family this anniversary as well - FOUR new stencil designs!!  That's right - not one, FOUR!  Here is a graphic depicting all four of them:

I think they are all really terrific and the NND DT did such a terrific job showing them all off earlier this week, didn't they?!!  Since I love making dog-themed and cat-themed cards so much I decided to make a birthday card using NND's Pug Hugs stamp set and the brand new Paw Prints stencil :

I just secured the stencil in place with a piece of blue painter's tape and sponged the plum perfect ink over the open paw prints and VOILA!  Pretty neat huh?  My first time working with a stencil too!!  I also tried it with my new Crayola Airbrush kit I got back in December - worked nicely with that too!  And both times, all I had to do to clean the stencil off was run it under the faucet and the ink and marker just washed right off, good as new again - can't get much easier than that!  :)

Would you like to try NND's new stencils for yourself?  Well as part of Newton's Nook's 4th anniversary celebration, you can receive the Paw Prints stencil FREE with a $75 purchase from Newton's Nook Designs!  Cool no?  But the promotion only runs for one week so don't wait too long!

A Card for Your 'Sweet-Tea'

Welcome!  Today it is my turn to be featured on the Newton's Nook Designs' Blog (YAAY!) so I decided to have a little fun with a play on words with this card using the newly released Freshly Squeezed stamp set and elements & sentiments from the previously released 'Sweet Summer' and 'Love a la Carte' stamp sets as well:

Card for your Sweet-Tea by Crafty Math Chick | Freshly Squeezed, Sweet Summer & Love a la Carte stamp sets by Newton's Nooks Designs

I have always loved lemons and lemon flavoring, I do not know why.  I even think lemons themselves look cute, so I had so much fun contently coloring up all these lemons.  I added some clear, yellow and red gloss using my Sakura Glaze gel pens to the lemon rinds, hearts and the mason jar, but I don't know if it shows up much in the picture.    This is a perfect card from my hubby who frequently calls me his 'Sweetie' and loves sweet tea and brewing his own sun tea in the backyard during the summer months.

Hope you like my card!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton's Nook Designs' Inky Paws Challenge #32 ~ Use an Arrow

Hello Everyone!  I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend and were able to reflect upon those who selflessly sacrificed their lives to help protect the freedoms with which we are all blessed.  It is my turn to be featured on the Newton's Nook Designs' Blog (yaay!) so I wanted to make a card to play along with the current Inky Paws Challenge - to use an arrow.

I knew this challenge was the purr-fect opportunity to feature the new Points & Plumes die set.

Owls in Love card by Crafty Math Chick | Magical Dreams & Sweetheart Tails stamp sets & Points & Plumes die set by Newton's Nook Designs

Originally I was going to have one of the owls 'riding' on the arrow, clenching it in its talons.  But I couldn't decide - do I use the feminine shy owl from Sweetheart Tails?  Or the adorable barn owl from Magical Dreams?  (which I purchased long ago and still had yet to use!)  I couldn't decide (big shock there) so I altered the design and used both - yaay!!  I masked them and had them perch on the branch from Hanging Around, which I extended with a ruler and a black gel ink pen.  I simply cut the arrow die cut in half and positioned it so it looked like it was piercing the heart above - VOILA!  Hope you like it!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to look at my card.  Hope your May ends happily and your June was a wonderful beginning!

Newton's Nook Designs August Release ~ Final Day

Welcome back to the last day of Newton's Nook Designs' August sneak peeks.    Today Jen is releasing TWO of her coordinating die collections!  Introducing coordinating dies for the previously released Newton's Antics:

I was SO excited to here Jen was releasing coordinating dies for this set - it is special to me because it was one of the first ones I purchased from NND before I was fortunate enough to be asked to join the design team.  I wanted to honor it with a cute kitty anniversary card as a tribute to Jen & Jeff's kitties, Newton ^ Hobbes:

Kitty Anniversary card by Crafty Math Chick | Newton's Antics stamp set & dies by Newton's Nook Designs

I didn't quite get Hobbes' coloring right with my Copic markers, but I will try harder next time Hobbes.  I love all the little dies for the cute kitty accessories in this set too - don't you?  And I had fun tucking the die cut fishbone (which matches the patterned paper so nicely, doesn't it?) under Hobbes' little paw.

Would you like to win a $10 store credit to Newton's Nook Designs?
One will be given away to ONE lucky winner!!

Anniversary Card with NND's Years for Cheers

Hello!  I hope everyone is doing well.  I am featured on the Newton's Nook Designs' blog today.  Since my in-laws' anniversary is this month I decide to make an elegant anniversary card using NND's recently released 'Years for Cheers' stamp set:

49th anniversary card by Crafty Math Chick | Years for Cheers by Newton's Nook Designs

Yep, they've been together 49 years - isn't that wonderful?!!  I went for a formal black & white design with two kinds of embossing (heated with white EP and the D'Vine Swirls CB EF).  My hubby thinks they'll like it - I hope he's right!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog to see my creations, I hope you have a GREAT day!

Cheers!

Newton's Nook Designs May Release ~ Final Day

Welcome back for the third and last day of sneak peeks for the May release for Newton's Nook Designs.  Today Jen's sharing a mini set perfect for all kinds of occasions, from birthdays to anniversaries to New Years celebrations, even for pocket pages of visiting wineries or going wine tasting!  Introducing: ' Years for Cheers':

First I decide to make a card for my hubby for our next anniversary:

Anniversary card by Crafty Math Chick | Years for Cheers by Newton's Nook Designs

(my hubby prefers simple elegant cards so I didn't embellish beyond this, even though inside I was screaming to add glitter and rhinestones, LOL!  I hoe the little silver bow from Michaels $1 bin wasn't too much for a man!).

I have a confession - as hard as I try, I usually end up having a few holiday cards that just don't make it to the mail in time - we are a military family and we move a lot, our friends move a lot, and trying to keep up with all the address changes can be daunting.  So I always make a few 'Happy New Years!' cards for folks whose addresses I don't learn of in time.  This set is perfect for that:

Happy 2016 pink foil New Years card by Crafty Math Chick | Years for Cheers by Newton's Nook Designs

Since this one wasn't for hubby I decide to go a little flirty with pink and gold accents.  I sliced up some strips from this cool golf foil vellum from a DCWV stack that I LOVE and tacked it down onto some Blushing Bride cardstock (looks like embossing, doesn't it?) and stamped the numbers individually and punched them with a 1/2" punch (they fit perfectly!) and matted them in black with a 3/4" punch.  So, one down, a few more to go... the trick now is not to misplace it before December so I will have it when I need it (though I could always pop off the '6' and add a '7' in its place for the following year if I had to, right?).  So, which care was your favorite?

Would you like to win 'Years for Cheers'?
This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!!

Yipes! Stripes! With Newton's Nook Designs

Welcome!  I have to admit, the day Jen sneaked 'Wild About Zoo':

That little zebra instantly reminded me of the colorful zebra from Fruit Stripe gum.  Don't remember Fruit Stripe Gum?  Curious as to what it is?  Here are some links to fill you in: 1970's commercial & 1990's commercial (you have that in your head now, don't you?).  It is difficult to find in stores, but you can find it at specialty candy stores online if you do a google search for it.  One of these days I will buy a brick of it and come up with some cute treat holder for it.

Anyway, that was my inspiration for today's card:

The cute little zebra's tails was difficult to fussy cut around, so I gave him a rainbow one instead created by 6 strands of embroidery floss twisted together in shades that matched the brightly striped paper.  I think this will be a perfect card for Operation Write Home for a deployed service member to send to his or her daughter back home.

I am also submitting this card for Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge: Anything Goes (did you know Simon Says Stamp also sells Newton's Nook Designs?  They do!!)

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a bright & colorful day!

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the first day of Newton Nook Designs' February Release.  Today's set is perfect not only for Valentine's Day, but for Anniversaries and any time you want to share a little love, introducing 'Bunny Hop':

Who doesn't think bunny butts are adorable?!!  So I of course chose this image for my card:

Bunny Butt card by Crafty Math Chick | Bunny Hop Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

I created a larger bunny for the Newton bunny to snuggle with using shapes from circle punches and gave him a sparkly pom pom tail and added some sparkly flock to Newton bunny's tail with a quickie glue pen.

Since this card features two widdle bunnies I am also entering it into Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Challenge: 'all creatures great and small' (did you know that Simon Says Stamps carries NND?  Cool huh?)

Would you like to win 'Bunny Hop'?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

Newton's Nook Designs Inky Paws Challenge #17

Hello everyone!  Today is the first Inky Paws Challenge of 2015.  For Inky Paws Challenge #17, Jen challenges us to use something heart-shaped in your creation featuring Newton's Nook Designs:

(Don't those cookies make your mouth water?  YUM!)  I met the challenge using Flirty Flamingos, which I honestly believe is the cutest flamingo set I have seen anywhere!!

Flirty Flamingos | 3x4 photopolymer Stamp Set | Newton's Nook Designs
to make this card:

I used various sizes of heart-shaped Nestabilities dies by Spellbinders to create this heart-shaped card with a window in the middle for the flamingos to peek out of.

I am also entering this card in Simon Says Stamp's 'Have a Heart' Wednesday Challenge (did you know Simon Says Stamp carries Newton's Nook Designs sets too?  They do!!).

Won't you take the Inky Paws Challenge and play along with us?  You have until Friday, February 6th to play along and you must use a NND image (though there are some freebies on the NND blog)on a new creation.  Check out the Newton's Nook Designs blog for all the details - including how you could WIN a $10 store credit to NND (and if there are more than 15 participants, Jen will pick TWO winners!  WHOOP!)!

And if you happen to have some extra valentines lying around - I hope you will consider donating them to Winter Sims' Cards from the Heart Card Drive - she is collecting valentines for distribution to children spending valentine's day in hospitals.  You get to do a good deed, spread a little love, and even have a chance to win some fun crafty prizes in the process!  Visit HERE for more information.

Newton's Nook Designs January Release ~ Day 2

Welcome back for the second day of Newton's Nook Designs January Release!  Today 'Newton Dreams of Paris' makes its debut, with lots of images and sentiments perfect for valentines day, anniversaries, any expression of love, scrapbooking trips to Paris or even just saying hello - how's that for versatility?!!

Just seeing the images in the package gave me the impression that little Newton in the lower right corner was looking up at the Newton kitty in the air balloon, so I went with it with this card:

(please click on the photo for a larger image).  The background is from Echo Park's 'Be Mine' stack - lots of great pinks, greys and black & white in that collection (lots of Parisian elements to coordinate with this stamp set as well!) so I did a bit of paper piecing here with both Newton's and all four air balloons.  I don't know if it shows up in the photo, but I added some glitter glue to the hearts on the card for an added touch of sparkle, cards are more festive with a little sparkle, right?

Would you like to win 'Newton Dreams of Paris'?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

Newton's Nook Designs January Release ~ Day 1

Welcome!  Today we are showing off Newton's Nook Design's soon-to-be-released set: Wild About Zoo:

As you can see, the set has several images of adorable animals with sentiments perfect for valentine's day, anniversaries, and other fun expressions of love!  I decide to use little lion Newton and wrapped the twine Jen wrapped around the sets when she shipped them to create a fun texture mane:

(please click on the image for a larger picture).  I converted Newton from Newton's Day Dream into a lioness to snuggle with placed over this perfect background scene from a sheet from DCWV's 8" x 8" Safari stack.

Happy Anniversary!

Hello Friends & Followers!  As you read this I should be arriving in our new state, though I am not sure of the availability of our house at the time I author this post (wish me luck!).

I wanted to share the card I made for my hubby for our anniversary using Newton's Nook Designs' 'Sweet Summer' set and Cuttlebug's Preserves embossing folder:

I masked the pear and stamped it twice (needed a pair of pears right!  Good homonyms lesson for your little ones!) and colored them in using Copic markers.  I just love the little hearts Jen added to the pears when she illustrated this set.

'Sweet Summer' is a really adorable and versatile set, I would definitely consider adding it to your NND collection if you don't already have it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope YOU are having a 'Sweet Summer' yourself!

Cheers!

SNSDC66 ~ Greens & Purples

Happy Friday Friends & Followers!  Time for another Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Challenge, and this week certainly was a challenge for me - Use greens & purples - not too colors I frequently use together, in fact, I really don't use purple much at all now that I think of it, I don't have anything against the color, there are just others I seem to reach for first.  For the challenge I created this CAS card using Cookie's Pear digi stamp:
I figured I could write 'you are a wonderful 'pear'' on the inside and use it as an anniversary card or something.  99.9% of my embellishments are still packed up and inaccessible so I took a white grosgrain ribbon and used my Bic Mark It's that I used to color little Cookie Mouse and drew lines using the same colors to create a coordinating ribbon.
Hope you will play along with our challenges, you don't even need to use SNSS digis (though we certainly love it when you do - and then you are in the running to be a spotlighted stamper and might even end up being the featured guest designer for October!) and remember, every card you enter during the month of August enters you to win 3 SNSS digis of your choice!  So play along every week to increase your chances.  This card also fulfills the requirements of the following additional challenges as well:

     Have a wonderful weekend!
