Floating on a Cloud of Colour

Hello dear crafty friends,

How are you? I thought I'd pop round just to say hello...  Not really a project to show. I'm abroad right now, but I prepared a little post before I left. I'd like to share this little colour pop with you.

It never seizes to amaze me how colours can invigorate me. They really brighten up my spirit. I'm sure many of you feel the same about colour. Or am I mistaken?

Maybe you'd like to float with me for a while on this cloud of colours...

Do you recognise my little Travel Blanket? I made it during my travels in Thailand earlier this year. Somehow it looks quite different here!

I sneaked in a copy of Molla Mills' Modern Crochet in this last pic. Such a wonderful crocheter and I was very pleased that her first book is translated into English! Are you familiar with her work & website? *click!*

Many thanks for your visit! ♦ Have a lovely day.

Colour me Bright & Happy

As much as I love naturals, I do enjoy a good pop of colour. Today feels like it could do with a little colour injection. So here it is!

Nothing can sheer a dull day up like a colourful pile of crocheted blankets. Agree?

Although confetti is a good second best...

And here's more confetti... ;-)

By the way, patterns for a similar potholder can be found on Ravelry. Search for a daisy potholder. Oh, and in case you're wondering: sure, I always carry a bunch of crochet hooks in my hair. ;-)

Have a good week!

Just Throwing in Some Happy Colours

For everybody who can use some cheerful colours:
These are for you!

Still very busy around here; not much time to blog. However, I'm bursting with new crochet ideas and blog inspiration. Can't wait to invest more time in both.

Meanwhile I'm looking forward to Maaike's crochet book, which will be launched next weekend. The preview looks amazing. So fresh. If you haven't seen it yet, head over to her gorgeous blog creJJtion now! She is such a kind and creative lady. I really wish I could attend the launch, but unfortunately I have obligations to attend to.

Enjoy the last bit of weekend, cheers!

Colours, Culture and Whatnot ~ Snapshots for Inspiration #2

Shortly after I wrote in my last post that I sometimes wonder if I can translate something I see into a crochet pattern, I came across this wall painting. Wow! I can easily see how I could translate this into a work of crochet... Actually, I might do just that sometime. This pattern has been on my to do list for quite a while and I really like these colours. It would be a perfect selfmade souvenir.

In Lampang these birds and flowers brighten up a temple wall. Simply love it.

Despite - our should I say due to? - its colourful attire this rabbit looks unhappy, don't you think?

I can see these tiles turning into an amazing crochet throw - colours, pattern, edging & all. What do you think?

The temples are so colourful...

Love the colours of these noodles. Turmeric, I suppose.

Colours, Culture and Whatnot ~ Snapshots for Inspiration #1

Thanks for the kind comments on my travel blanket! I haven't had the opportunity to give a reaction to the comment, but I will soon.

I use my phone and camera often to make a snapshot of what strikes or inspires me. Whether at home or while travelling. It can be anything really: a colour - or a combination of colours, forms, texture, an (often not intended) styling, light - or shadows, a book or even the pavement. The pictures in itself don't have any artistic pretention. ;-) Sometimes I wonder if can 'translate' something I like into a crochet pattern. Ha!
Today, and later this week, I will share just a few of these shots here.

Colours...

Shadows...
The print of my dress corresponded with the shadows in the gorgeous CM University Art Center. I tried to blend in. ;-)

Thanks for dropping by ~ see you soon!

PS. Does anybody know what the name of that pink flowered tree is in the first collage? I'm quite smitten with it...)

It's all work and no play around here.
Here are some older pics that did't make it to this blog before,
just to say hello, and I'll be back...

Working on the giant granny square

The giant granny square works up very quickly.
Row after row. Still struggling a bit with the colours.
It's not that I don't like them, but there's just so much contrast... ;-)
I think I will make another giant granny in my 'own' colours.
However, first have to finish this one!

Have a nice day!

PS. My hands are not as gigantic as might seem from the picture, lol.
it's only the throw that's giant. ;-)

Crochet Country #2

Of course I did some crocheting myself while travelling
through Portugal. I wanted to make something easy.
So I decided to go for simple, round placemats.

ByHaafner, crochet, circles, double crochet, bright colours, red

It's a basic circle pattern, using double crochet.
I like the result, the vibrant colours are quite cheerful.

But now I'm thinking I might turn them into...
a blanket (another one, yes!), with the big circles connected by smaller ones.

ByHaafner, crochet, circles, double crochet, bright colours, red

Of course this would mean I'd have to whip up quite a few more.
This was the result at the end of my trip...

ByHaafner, crochet, circles, double crochet, bright colours, red

It's an ideal pattern for relaxing by crocheting. In the train, on a terrace... My travel equipment consisted of a market-bag-turned-into-yarn-bag and my crochet hook cosy made from animal friendly, vegan faux leather by Namaste.

Do you take your crochet with you while travelling?
I'm quite sure you do! ;-)

The first blanket and sunshine

Thank you for your kind and encouraging comments on my last post.
It means a lot to me that you take the time for reacting
- and that you liked my blanket ;-) - so thanks!

Meanwhile I managed to catch of bit of the glorious sunshine
in our little corner of the world.

ByHaafner, crochet, blanket, granny square, patio

A good book, a throw - in this case, the first one I ever crocheted, with the the first granny square I ever crocheted... and it shows ;-), sunshine and tea. Life can be good.

Enjoy.

Where have my pastels gone?!

Something I really like about blogging is to be inspired by others,
and to discover that sometimes - to my delight and surprise -
others are inspired by this tiny blog... (Yay!)

ByHaafner, bright colours, crochet, circles, doily, placemat, enamel, white wooden floor

Like recently, there were suddenly quite a few visitors
from South Korea to my blog (btw, a country I'd love to visit once).
On which I discovered a lovely South Korean crochet blog
with a 'remake' of my popcorn potholder (remember? this one!)
in similar colours and styling.
This was confusing in a funny way:
At first glance it looked like my own photo,
but there was something slightly different...
Go check it out here!

Recently it worked the other way round
when I came across the wonderful Portugese blog Mi Mitrika
with gorgeous pictures and amazing crochet work. What a delight...
I discovered it on the blogroll of another lovely blog: Pigtails. (Thanks!)

One of the pictures of Mi Mitrika was that of a placemat or doily in bright colours, with lots of red (a colour I normally hardly ever use)
But I was smitten...
So I shamelessly made my own and used a lot of red too.
Although admittedly her colour combi is better - with mustard/ochre
which I didn't have in my stash.
Anyway - it's nice to go bright for a change!

As you can see I got my enamel out too. :-)

Have a bright day!
