A Day of Rest...

Not for me!

The weekends go by way too fast for me, so I try to get as much done as possible on these 2 days.  Do you do that, too?

I did not intend to leave you all guessing on that photo...thought it was just too fun not to share (see previous post if you missed it).

It is, in fact, a photo of a roll of bias striped binding.  The stripes were printed that way (on the bias) which was great because then I did not need to try to remember how to cut binding on the bias.  ~grin~

The quilt it is for is what I worked on yesterday and a bit of this morning...the red and aqua wonky (some of them, anyway) stars quilt.

I have no good way to show the entire quilt top right now, but I will post a photo of part of it...a sneak peek.  I picked up the wrong Kona solid for the backing, so need to wait on finishing it.

I also realized that I need to change my way of basting quilts!!!  Now that I moved, I no longer have a huge table in the basement to lay out the layers on.  I have been looking around for alternatives and think I found a good one...will tell you more when I have a regular keyboard to type on instead of doing posts from my phone.

I hate to add to my pile of quilt tops...but the creative juices are flowing, so I will probably start (or continue) on another quilty project before I do anything more with this one.

I like to have a pick-up project going, too.   I just finished knitting a scarf and started on a facecloth.  And, last night, I dug through my fabric closet (seriously...my fabric and other sewing stuff is all crammed into my walk-in closet) and found fabrics for some stitchery projects.

I have not forgotten my 'snow days' quilt...just need to get more settled before I have enough concentration to continue with that one.  And, Curio...and orange and aqua...and...Kashmir...and all the rest!

Okay...my finger is tired...must go.  Oh!  Here's the 'rest' part of my day!  ~grin~

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Laboring...

Well, not really laboring.
Having fun, actually.  ~grin~  Should be no big surprise that my sewing stuff was among the first boxes unpacked.
Had an order for more kleenex cozies.
And, still working on my 'not too wonky' stars.  Only 13 left!
All of this moving/unpacking wears the brown boy out.
What are you doing today?

Wonky Stars Revisited...

With thoughts of finishing quilts in my head lately (see this post) I decided to go through my stuff and make a list of quilts started and not anywhere close to being finished.  Works.  In.  Progress.  There's a list (that is not complete, by the way) on my sidebar, which I guess I've been ignoring.  Oh. My. Gosh.  It's crazy!

I must get at them.  Right?  I have a few big projects that I am dying to get at, but my head is full of all this other stuff.  The 'waiting to be worked on and finished' stuff.

So, without further ado...

Here's the first one.  Last year,  I was in an Aqua and Red Block Swap.  When it was my month, I asked for wonky stars...and I got them!  Aren't they awesome?  (I actually received 19, so I'm guessing I didn't photograph them all???)

This wonky star quilt is one of the ones that got off to a good start and then I let it sit.  I was even super organized with it...all the squares of fabric are cut and stored in a bin.  It takes no time at all to make one wonky star.  So...why have I let it sit?

Who knows.  It really doesn't matter right now.  Cuz, I do have a plan!

I need 64 blocks for the front and 3 for the back.  67.  If I put in a little time here and there and make a wonky star...or two...they'll be done in no time at all!  In fact, since making that plan, I made 8 of them!

Now I only need 40.  I can deal with that number.

How about you?  Do you start projects and then get distracted?  Or, do you finish one before you start the next one?

Have a restful Sunday evening!

Snow Days and Wonky Stars...

I've been working my fingers to the bone.

Okay, not really.
But, here's what I have been up to.

The 'Snow Days' block 5 is finally finished.
whew.
The design area measures about 10 x 18 inches,
which is much larger than any of the previous blocks.
It seemed to take forever to do.
(be sure to click to enlarge so that you are
able to see the details of this stitchery)
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~
 And, this is where I am on my doll quilt swap quilt.
Right now, it measures 12.5 inches square.
I need to add a border or two, yet.
Little wonky stars...aren't they cute?
I am very happy with how this is looking.
I sure hope my partner will be happy with it.
I'm hoping to get the doll quilt
and a few other things
finished up before next Monday
so I can begin our
'Christmas in August'
right on time.
(mentioned previously here)
I only have 3 days left, though.
YIKES!
Sunshine Stars Doll Quilt...
 Another finish.
I am very pleased with how this turned out.
I put together this sunshine star doll quilt with
scrap pieces from my large hexagon sunshine quilt
(that has yet to be finished!)
and Kona cotton solid in White.
Wonky stars are easy - and fun! - blocks to make...
you'll find the tutorial here.
I quilted in a very small meandering pattern
up to the edge of each point of the stars.
I did not 'stitch in the ditch' around the stars
to outline them as originally planned.
The stars themselves are very poofy.
After laundering, this measures ~20.5 inches square.
A Few Things Finished...
Ya know how sometimes you have an idea...
and it just doesn't work out?
The end product looks nothing at all
like what you had pictured?
 I've had plenty of those.
But, I've also had the ones that turn out
better than what I had hoped for!
This is one of the good ones.
I've made drawstring bags before...
back when my boys were toddlers.
A very long time ago.
Joyce asked for a drawstring bag
to give her grandson, Riley.
I had some blocks left from the quilt
I made for him last year...see it here.
I used 9 of those blocks to make the front of the bag
and used Kona cotton solid in Avocado for the back.
I found one (and only one)
turtle that I could use as a patch.
I put that on the back.
It is lined with another Kona cotton solid
- a light green -
(can't remember the name).
Measuring 11.5 x 14.5 inches,
it is a good size for him to use
for hauling his stuff around.
I think it is dang stinkin' cute!
{grin}
 In my Aqua and Red Bee Block Swap...
Bek asked for a 15.5 inch wonky star block.
I am really liking these red and aqua fabrics!
That's all I have to show for now.
Hopefully, this will be a productive weekend.
Have a great weekend!
Coins & Bees...
I was able to finish a few things this week.
I made a coin purse for Joyce
that matches the purple tote
I made for her (shown here).
In the Aqua & Red Block Bee,
we have two blocks to make each month
for the next 6 months.
 We were given complete freedom with Carrie's block.
This isn't what I originally intended, but this
is what my block for her ended up being.
Erin (Why Not Sew?), wanted a wonky star block.
Following this tutorial
I quickly put this block together.
Wonky stars are fun and easy peasy...
I love it!
I have another tote to make
and then I'll be caught up.
What have you been working on?
Small Projects.
Hanging out...
reading, watching a movie,
& working on small projects today.
Here's the September Pioneer Sampler quilt BOM block.
Here are the wonky stars I made for
Brioni of my Bee Addicted 3 block swap.
They were fun.
Cannot wait to see what we'll get this next month!
Meatballs.
So. Because Allegra hasn't been eating well, I had substituted in canned food for her dry food. I've been making meatballs out of her food and she is able to take them out of my hand and (mostly) eat them okay. She still isn't moving her tongue, so it's messy. But, she's eating more food. Weight loss is another issue...right now, she's at 36 pounds. Gotta get some weight back on her. She's a small girl, anyway...weighed about 42-44 pounds in her prime. As I said, a small girl. (But beautiful, right?)
I'm taking Allegra to work with me tomorrow...she'll be looked at by two services...internal medicine and neurology. The neuro service will want to see how she eats/drinks. I am very curious to hear what they have to say.
I'll let you know what I find out.
Not much sewing going on this week, what with my worrying about Allegra & the fall season of television shows starting. I missed the NCIS premieres, but it couldn't be helped. DWTS, ya know. Saw "The Good Wife"...love Julianna Margulies. Saw "CSI:NY" last night...that was a good one. "The Mentalist" is on tonight...really love Simon Baker!
I did manage to sew this block. Today. Amanda Jean, over at crazy mom quilts, asked for help making blocks for Quilt of Valor quilts. I volunteered to make a block and this is it...I like it much better than my 'practice' one.
OOPS! I forgot!
I never did post photos of what I accomplished yesterday...completely forgot. ~sigh~ Here they are...
This is my second wonky quarter log cabin block. I'm liking these a lot!
Here are the two wonky quarter log cabin blocks side-by-side. Ya know, I try to do random and it just doesn't work. I deliberately did not look at block #1 while putting together block #2...wanted no influence over what I was putting together. So. I think this clearly shows how my mind works. No such thing as 'random' in my head...my mind is too orderly, methinks. It cracked me up when I saw them together. See how all the colors/strips are the same color/pattern? Even the placement of the 'odd' piece in the middle of a strip? I need help. Seriously. LOL
Since I am making 4 of each of the four patterns of this quilt along (for a total of 16 blocks instead of 25 blocks most others are doing), I think I'll make the remaining two of this pattern similar...either as these two are, or use opposite colors and place them diagonally from each other. Know what I mean?
Here's my practice 'maverick' star. It's supposed to be wonky, but I think it might be a bit too wonky.
I have a list of projects a mile long (nothing new for most of us, hey?)...am hoping to get more done today. Soon, I won't be able to show you everything that I'm working on. With Christmas coming fast, I have lots of projects to work on. Seems like half of my family has birthdays in November and December, too.
Have a great Sunday!
