This is the final dispatch related to the Lower Mississippi River Run of 2012:  a link to an exceptional historical overview of a good deal of the ground covered on this trip.


Here's a picture I hadn't seen before:  the pontoon bridge by which Sherman's troops (including the 9th Iowa) crossed the Big Black River on the way to Vicksburg.
