Victoria Roberts post and Giveaway

8 Little-Known Facts about Victoria Roberts

Thank you so much for having me here today.

I never read a single romance novel until my thirties.
Oh, the horror. But yes, it’s true. My dear friend had her face buried in them, and I teased her relentlessly because who would ever read such a thing, right? One day, she had enough of my jesting, slammed one of those books on my desk and said, “I don’t want to hear another word until you read one.” That book was a Scottish historical romance. Imagine my surprise when the story had a plot, beautiful descriptions of the Highlands, and those alpha-male men in kilts. You know what happened from there. I’m still writing them. And that friend? She’s my critique partner and cherished friend.

My first book signing was with Nora Roberts.
If it wasn’t bad enough I was a bundle of nerves with my first release, my first signing was with   Nora Roberts. I was lucky enough to attend one of Nora’s signings at Turn the Page Bookstore and was happy that I “sold out.” My little lad sat kilted up beside me and I’ll never forget the proud look on his face.

I’ve never been to Scotland.
This is sad, but true. Everything I’ve learned, obsessed about, has been through books, the internet, and my dear Scottish friends across the pond. I know one day I’ll have the trip of a lifetime.

I do not have a single drop of Scottish blood.
But…I’m Scottish at heart. On the other hand, my husband is exactly like the Ancestry commercial. He’s always been told he’s 100% German, but not according to his DNA! We discovered he’s 50% German and 50% Scottish. Do you know how happy that made this Scottish historical romance writer? In fact, he recently bought his first kilt for my next event.

I’m learning Gaelic.
Before ever reading Diana Gabaldon or watching Outlander, the Gaelic language has been a very important part in my writing. Readers can find bits of Gaelic in all my books. As an author of this particular genre, I thought—and still think—it’s very important to keep the Scottish heritage alive. I like to honor that tradition in my work. My kids also know Gaelic greetings, and my German—now Scottish—husband just rolls his eyes at us.

I rode my husband’s motorcycle on a drag strip.
Call me crazy. In your twenties, you think you’re indestructible. I was no different. My husband had a Honda Nighthawk at the time, and I ran it on a drag strip at 70 MPH. It wasn’t long before that inner voice asked, “Are you crazy?” Yeah, that was the first and last time I ever tried something as foolish.

I have a custom Ace Frehley (from the band KISS) Les Paul guitar.
Prior to becoming a romance author, yours truly had been playing the electric guitar since 10th grade. Oh, yes. I drove my poor neighbor’s crazy with my Marshall amp too. *grunts like Tim “the tool man” Taylor.

I’m writing a novella with my 15-year-old daughter.
We started this project when she was 14-years-old. She wanted to write something with me and even came up with the idea herself. We’re very proud to announce that Snakes in the Garden is now available for pre-order.

My Highland Spy - Victoria Roberts

Laird Ruairi Sutherland refuses to send his only son away to be educated by the English. And he most definitely will not appear in Edinburgh to pay homage to a liege who has no respect for Scotland. So he does what any laird would do—he lies to the king. The last thing Ruairi expects is a beautiful English governess to appear on his doorstep.

Lady Ravenna Walsingham is a seasoned spy who is sent to the savage Highlands to uncover a nefarious plot against the Crown. Playing the part of an English governess—a job easier said than done—she infiltrates the home of Laird Sutherland, a suspected conspirator. Ravenna soon discovers that the only real threat Sutherland poses is to her heart. But will the proud Highland laird ever forgive her when he discovers the woman he loves in an English spy?

My thoughts:
Spy meets highlander and falls in love. That is the story.

I did think that the book could have been longer, maybe only 50 pages more to put some meat on the bones. They met and were in lust a second later. I would have wanted more around that. It was too quick. Very insta and in a way not, time went by, we just did not see it.

Ravenna spies for the crown and is sent to see what a certain sexy highlander is up to. Ruairi just wants to be Scottish and not send his son to Edinburgh and what's wrong with that?

She pretends to be a Governess and thinks he speaks no English. Oh watch your tongue then. HA, you will see. They both start to fall in lust. She learns that Highlanders are not brutes. Someone is sabotaging his lands and all the while she continues to lie. Will he ever forgive her?

Conclusion:
A romance with a sexy laird and a woman who knows what she wants.

Author Interview and Giveaway: Victoria Roberts - To Wed a Wicked Highlander

Today I am interviewing Victoria Roberts and giving away her new book.

Welcome!

1. Tell me 3 strange things about yourself...
First, thank you so much for having me here today.
Three strange things, huh? Even though I write Scottish historical romance, I’m a big fan of paranormal, urban fantasy, etc. I love vampires and not the Twilight kind. I’m a huge KISS fan and have a custom Ace Frehley Les Paul guitar. I’m obsessed with anything Scotland and do not have a single drop of Scottish blood.
Is that strange enough?

2. Your new book is called To Wed a Wicked Highlander, could you tell us a little about it?
I think the back cover blurb says it best.
She always wanted to be one of the boys...
Sybella would do anything to prove she's just as valuable to the MacKenzie clan as her brother is. She'd go on any hunt, take any dare. But her father has a different sort of mission in mind: marriage. It's simple, he explains. All she has to do is marry Alexander MacDonell and report back on his family's secrets. It will be easy, he says, as long as she doesn't do anything foolish...like fall in love.
Until she got a man.
As laird of the MacDonells, Alex has a duty to produce an heir. It's a duty he won't mind with the lovely Ella as his wife―even if she is one of the dreaded MacKenzies. He's wooed and won many ladies, but Ella is a challenge like no other. He can tell she's holding something back. But not for long. Because inch by inch, he plans to expose everything she's been hiding and claim the ultimate prize: her heart.

3. What was the inspiration behind this book?
Alexander MacDonell appeared in my debut novel, Temptation in a Kilt. He was Rosalia’s cousin from Glengarry. The man wanted to make his father so proud in the first book that I knew Alex had to have his own tale told.

4. Will there be more books in this series?
That’s the question of the hour. I’m currently working on a new series called Royal Rebellion. My Highland Spy is the first book and will be released fall 2014. Readers have been asking me to continue with the Bad Boys, particularly wanting James and Colin’s story. I’m not ruling anything out. Who knows what the future holds?

5. Tell us a few juicy details about Alexander McDonnell?
He’s verra handsome, verra proud, and he’s not too happy when he finds out his wife is keeping something from him.

6. A few short ones:
The Hottest Scot is: Gerard Butler
Most beautiful place in Scotland is: Highlands
I love Highlanders because… What’s nae to love?

Thanks!!!
Thanks for having me today.

Early Review: To Wed a Wicked Highlander - Victoria Roberts

Laird Alexander MacDonnell must choose between his duty or losing his heart forever to the woman who betrayed him—his own wife.

Lady Sybella MacKenzie is forced to search for her clan's ancient seeing stone under the roof of her father's enemy. When she finds the precious artifact, will she choose the family who raised her, or will she stand with the man who has captured her soul?

My thoughts:
This book was cute, fun and I read it in no time at all. The pages kind of just flew by and I love when it does that. I adore light and easy.

It's a part of a series, but like I always (well almost) say it can be read as a stand alone. The hero we met in another book, the heroine is new. We meet some old friends too. But you do not need to know their story, it more makes you want to read their story too.

Alexander is a sexy Highlander with troublesome neighbors and he is need of a wife. Sybella is the daughter to the troublesome highlander and is offered to him. I liked that they did not hate each other or fought. No they kind of just drifted towards each other with an ease. Even though Sybella has a secret...one that will destroy their new found love.

There is romance, passion, a bit of suspense, some drama and a lightness of it all.

Conclusion:
I like these bad boys of the highlands, and I want more.

Interview and Giveaway: Victoria Roberts - X Marks the Scot

Today I welcome Victoria Roberts to my blog for an interview J And there is also a giveaway at the end.

Welcome.

1. Instead of the usual introduction tell me 3 silly things about yourself :)
First, thanks so much for having me here today.
Three silly things. Mmm... Let me see. I don’t know about silly, but I can tell you about dumb stuff that I’ve done. On my 21st birthday, I walked out of the restroom with my dress caught in the back of my pantyhose. Yep, I’m still thanking my sister for pulling me out of that one! I rode my husband’s motorcycle on a drag strip, reached 80 mph and realized this was probably the dumbest thing I’d ever done. And lastly, my Mom and I had a food fight with Boston Creme pie. Ah, great fun.

2. Could you tell me about your new book X Marks the Scot?
This story is about Declan MacGregor (Laird Ciaran MacGregor’s bad boy brother from Temptation in a Kilt) and Lady Liadain Campbell (the bloody Campbell’s sister from Temptation in a Kilt.) I think the back cover blurb says it best.

He was a Highland Rogue—Wicked with a Bow and Just as Wicked with the Ladies.
Declan MacGregor hadn't a care in the world beyond finding a soft bed and a willing woman...until he had to escort Lady Liadain Campbell to the English court. The woman needles him at every turn, but he can't just abandon her to that vipers' nest without protection.

She Never Asked for a Bodyguard...
Liadain wasn't thrilled to be left in the care of her clan's archrival. It was as if the man never had a lady tell him no before! And yet as whispers of treason swirl through the court and the threat of danger grows even sharper, her bitter enemy soon becomes the only one she can trust...

3.  Liadan and Declan's clan used to be rivals. Was it fun to write a enemies to lovers book?
Oh, most definitely. Declan and Liadain’s sparring matches made it so much fun. And since Declan is definitely the biggest bad boy of the series and everything that escaped his mouth was basically a sarcastic remark anyway, sparks flew, and tempers definitely flared.

4. Who would your perfect Highlander be?
Gerard Butler. Who else?

5. When I read book 1 I wished for Declan to get a book and so he did. But now I wonder. Who is the hero in book 3?
Alexander MacDonell (Rosalia’s cousin from Glengarry in Temptation in a Kilt.) Alexander’s story will be released in September 2013.

6. Do you have any other writing plans if not counting To Wed a Wicked Highlander, book 3?
I’m currently working on a new series about a family of English spies. There is still a heavily based Scottish theme, no worries.

Thanks so much for having me today.

Review: X Marks the Scot - Victoria Roberts

He was a Highland rogue—
wicked with a bow and just as wicked with the ladies.

Declan MacGregor hadn’t a care in the world beyond finding a soft bed and willing woman…until he had to escort Lady Liadain Campbell to the English court. The woman needles him at every turn, but he can’t just abandon her to that vipers’ nest without protection.

She never asked for a bodyguard…

Liadain wasn’t thrilled to be left in the care of her clan’s archrival. It was as if the man never had a lady tell him no before! And yet as whispers of treason swirl through the court and the threat of danger grows ever sharper, her bitter enemy soon becomes the only one she can trust…

My thoughts:
We have a healer from an enemy clan, and the rake who has bedded half of Scotland. As you can imagine they bicker constantly ;)

Declan is a no good rogue who loves to bed women. Liadan is a gentle healer who only wants to help people. They met in book 1, but you do not need to read book 1 to follow the story. This is a new story, their story.

At first we have court intrigues, and a sinister plot in the making. You will see what when a certain character shows up, and you will know at once. The romance is slow building, as they of course bicker. She is the bloody Campbell's sister of course, while she is mostly annoyed by his presence. The love, when it did come, did feel too fast. It was more like, banter banter, lust lust love. For her yes perhaps, him, I just do not know. But then how much time can they have since the book ends ;)

And now I really want a book with Montgomery as the hero, or that cousin from book 1. Yes please.

Conclusion:
A hunky highlander meets a feisty lass. That's the story.

Interview and Contest: Victoria Roberts - Temptation in a kilt

Help me welcome Victoria Roberts to my blog today :) And there is also a chance to win her new book Temptation in a kilt.

Hello! I’d like to thank everyone at Books for Life for having me today. I’m glad to be here.

Who is Victoria Roberts?
I often ask myself the same question. I’m a hard-working wife and mother of two beautiful kids. Home is in western Pennsylvania, but let me quote Robert Burns by saying, “My heart’s in the Highlands.”

Could you tell me about your new book, Temptation in a Kilt?
When I sat down to write Temptation in a Kilt, I knew I didn’t want to pen “just another romance novel.” Suffice it to say, I put my hero and heroine through a lot. Not only does each of them have to grow personally, but they both have family issues that need resolved before they can move on with their own lives. What Lady Rosalia Armstrong and Laird Ciaran MacGregor need to figure out is whether those circumstances warrant them to be together or forever apart. Let me share with you the back cover blurb.

She’s on her way to safety
It’s a sign of Lady Rosalia Armstrong’s desperation that she’s seeking refuge in a place as rugged and challenging as the Scottish Highlands. She doesn’t care about hardship and discomfort, if only she can become master of her own life. Laird Ciaran MacGregor, however, is completely beyond her control…

He redefines dangerous…
Ciaran MacGregor knows it’s perilous to get embroiled with a fiery Lowland lass, especially one as headstrong as Rosalia. Having made a rash promise to escort her all the way to Glengarry, now he’s stuck
with her, even though she challenges his legendary prowess at every opportunity. When temptation reaches its peak, he’ll be ready to show her who he really is…on and off the battlefield.

What made you want to write about sexy Highlanders?
That’s actually a funny story. I didn’t actually read romance novels until my adult life. My friend constantly had her nose in a book. I mean, even when she walked! Many years ago, I asked her what was so interesting that she couldn’t lift her head. She handed me a Highlander book, and I think it was Hannah Howell. Thinking the book would be the equivalent of watching a bad Highlander movie, I declined. My friend replied, “Don’t knock it until you try it.” Reluctantly, I took the novel. And was I ever wrong! I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Between the Highland lairds, beautiful lasses, gigantic horses, the Scotland backdrop, it was the moment that changed my life forever. This was my calling.

I’ve always dabbled with writing, and this only fueled my fire. And that friend who handed me the novel? She turned into my phenomenal CP (critique partner) and we’ve been moving forward ever since.

Why Ciaran is the Scot to read about this fall?
Like many other Highland lairds of his time, Ciaran is bound by duty. Between following the commands of King James, keeping the feuding neighboring clan under control, having a reckless brother on a self-destructive path and adhering to a vow made to his father… Life is trouble enough. Now he makes a promise to escort a woman the whole way to Glengarry who tempts him at every turn. I think readers will appreciate the growing relationship between Ciaran and Rosalia as they develop trust, honor, and temptation…

Have you always been interested in history?
I didn’t start to develop an appreciation for history until later in life. I’m also fascinated with antiques. I love thinking about the history of the object. Where did it come from? Where has it been?

What’s coming next from you?
The next book in the Bad Boys of the Highlands series is X Marks the Scot. The release date is February 2013 and this is Declan MacGregor and Lady Liadain Campbell’s story.

Thank you so much for having me here today. Those were some great questions!

Happy Reading!

Review: Temptation in a kilt - Victoria Roberts

She's On Her Way to Safety
It's a sign of Lady Rosalia Armstrong's desperation that she's seeking refuge in a place as rugged and challenging as the Scottish Highlands. She doesn't care about hardship and discomfort, if only she can become master of her own life. Laird Ciaran MacGregor, however, is completely beyond her control...

He Redefines Dangerous...
Ciaran MacGregor knows it's perilous to get embroiled with a fiery Lowland lass, especially one as headstrong as Rosalia. Having made a rash promise to escort her all the way to Glengarry, now he's stuck with her, even though she challenges his legendary prowess at every opportunity. When temptation reaches its peak, he'll be ready to show her how he really is...on and off the battlefield.

My thoughts:
Highlander romance, awww, there is just something about those sexy Scots.

In this one we have poor Rosalia, she does not come from a happy home, and now she must marry some English idiot. She did not see herself as pretty, brave, or anything really. She was beaten down, but she learns her own worth.

Then we have the sexy Highlander she meets. Laird Ciaran McGregor who is trying to hold his household together while feuding with those bloody Campbells (and yes they were not nice at all.). He saves her, he wants her, they dance around each other, there are stolen kisses, and in the end the question is, can he let her go? He was strong, a gentleman (most of the time ;), and I liked him. He was something that she needed.

We have the romance, troubles with the Campbells, a bitchy woman that wants Ciaran for herself, and get to know Ciaran's family. One brother is already married, but the other one is single, and a rogue. I hope he gets a book soon, and I hope..something (oh! I just read the blurb for the next book and hihi, that is all I am saying). There is also Rosalia's old friend James, and he is also someone I'd like to see fall in love with a nice girl.

Conclusion:
A nice highlander romance. You have it all, love, passion, fights and trouble in a kilt.
