30 Day Monster Girl Challenge: Part 3

Day 14: Dullahan (Basically a headless horseman type thing)
So here it is, week 3 and 17 monsters down.  Kind of exciting to be halfway at this point.

Day 12: Zombie (If I had to pick a zombie I like it would be slow and falling apart.)

Day 16: Ghost
Random fun 'fact' for this week.  Day 11 was the "True Monster" day.  To the best of my knowledge (and research) it was supposed to be made up and what we thought was truly a monster.  I was a little surprised that a Cthulhu type monster wasn't on the list so mine kinda went down that path.  Here's exactly what I was thinking in pictogram form:

Cthulhu + Sandworm +Mutant Kau I designed when I was at Neopets equal True Monster Girl
Day 11: True Monster
Same as last week, all monster girls are in no particular order.

Day 13: Insect Girl (a literal human centipede who also is obsessed with the 60's)

Day 15: Reptile Girl (Chameleons Rock!!  Especially shy ones.)

Day 17: Robot Girl (Her tire is like a little hand warmer/muff thing.)

Hopefully next week I'll have time to do a colored one.  I'm not going to hold my breath though.  I started a cleaned up vector version of the true monster and I'll be surprised if I can finish it before June.

Kacheeks In Love for Irene and Alan

A year ago now, when I was hanging out at Neopets for the summer, an old coworker and friend asked me if I could do a drawing of two Kacheeks (one yellow and one Island) in Chinese Traditional Wedding attire.

When Irene asked me for the drawing, I only intended on doing a marker drawing, but as time dragged on I decided that a painting would be well worth her and her Fiance's wait.  I just hope they like it.  >_<

I spent more time on this painting than I have on previous ones.  I had a very clear vision of what I wanted in my head and worked to try to make it happen as close to my vision as possible this time.  I started with some thumbnails, which I then expanded into a very detailed sketch (I usually just doodle something and then draw it strait on the watercolor paper and go).

After the sketch, I scanned it and did some super quick Photoshop color comps.  I initially wanted a pink cherry blossom tree, but I went for a more classic tree in the sketch.  When I tried to turn the classic tree pink, like a cherry blossom tree, it just didn't work and I just decided to keep it classic.

After the color comps I had to trace the sketch on the watercolor paper twice.  The first attempt was an epic failure due to old masking fluid that ripped the entire top layer of paper (including the sketch) off.  Once I recovered from the crushing blow of loosing the first painting (the wash on the sky looked REALLY good before it got ruined), I started over with a better brand of masking fluid and the GOOD Arches Watercolor paper.  Once the wash was complete and dry, I just finished off the rest of the painting in regular ol' opaque gouache.

Once it was finished I mixed up a little gold gouache and put a thin outline on the heart shaped sky.

The original frame Irene gave me was way too small, so I framed and matted it.  Hopefully the painting, the matting and the framing will make up for the year long wait she and her Fiance had to sit through.  :/

Rainbow Roller Girl

YAY!! Vacation time! In celebration of the upcoming summer. . . and my first week of break, it's the Farrah Fawcett/Rainbow Bright collision of awesomeness!! It took forever to get my brain to not want to give it South Park eyes. :P

Next week I start my summer Neopets job. I'm really excited to be going to hang out with my friends again and doing all sorts of props and clothing. I can't WAIT for a 40 hour work week!

Happy Holidays!

As usual, things are busy, busy, busy, so I've had to reach into the good ol work grab bag for a holiday themed goodie.

Happy Holidays everyone, and happy New Year as well!

That Time of Year Again

Okay, so once a year, usually around Halloween (I personally blame all the neighbors decorating, and Target's awesome Halloween Decorations) I start getting this inexplicable urge to redo my website. It becomes a TOTAL obsession that completely takes me over.

Anyway, after last year's super simplified website that was far TOO slick for my comfort, and not quite cluttered enough to represent the real me, I've decided to create the virtal victorian haunted mansion of my dreams. . . including an actual vampire for once. . .

Here's a couple of screen grabs of what's hopefully to come around the New Year.

There is still a long way to go, and I'm trying to learn more about layouts and coding. . . it's always a fun challenge. ;)

(P.S. Top image is from work. I was super lucky enough to be given an assignment to draw one of the new cash shop shopkeepers. It's only up for the month of October, but it made me so excited to see something "lasting" up on the site. Copyrite Neopets 2007, of course.)

Busy, Busy, Busy

Well, things have been pretty damn crazy here in Booger-land. Good news is that I FINALLY have my first day off in 3 weeks and the project at work is in Beta Testing right now and should be up for all of Neopia to enjoy on the 18th.

But since I don't like talkin' about work much on my bloggy blog, and lovely Viacom security rules prevent me from telling too many goodies to psycho Neopets fans, I'll move on to personal work.

Tonight, actually, I'll have a painting in ISM Magazine's April Gallery show "Friends of ISM" down in Costa Mesa, CA. I'm really excited to have the opportunity to be in another show, and even more excited to be in my first show out side of Gallery Nucleus.

With work being as crazy as it has been recently, and not recieving the invite into the ISM show until a week before the show deadline, I had to submit and older piece. But both the piece and I are very happy to have it be seen outside of my kitchen. :D

In case you're wondering, it's name is ultra super complex. . . "Gummies" and it's 12" x 12" streched canvas with acrylic. So if you can make it down to the OC, or ya live in the OC and you're very, very bored, you can come check out my painting.

Finally, I'm overjoyed to post this little ditty.

About two weeks ago we finally got "Two-Dee Fruity" put together and stringed. I don't think Carlos bothered to tune it, but just having it back together and having the first complete "Purplehearts" guitar made is very exciting. We've already got the next two planned and now that work's slowing down I can get back to having fun with the guitars.

Total Dork

Okay, so I admit it. Sometimes I'm proud of my work, from work, and this is one of um. I actually got to animate a week or so ago and was all excited because they let me animate some bats. It's sooo cool too because not only did I animate the little grey guy, a few months ago they let me design him too!! So for once this is ALL ME!!

REJECTED!!!

This adorable little bundle of CUTENESS, has been REJECTED by the evil overlords of Neopia.

Naw, just kiddin', he has been rejected but his little batty brother will be making his debut in Neopia around Halloween.

Keep and eye out for him, this guy's little bro that is. Hopefully they'll let me name him Flipflap.
