Fashionable History: Winter Fashion By Decade- 1920's

Brrrr! It's freezing this winter! When it's cold like this, I live in sweaters, hats and scarves and static un-styled hair. An injection of vintage in my daily life hardly appears. Unlike the Summer when retro dresses are a plenty! That got me thinking more and more about what was fashionable, in the past, in the Winter. Perhaps, I need some inspiration. So for the next few weeks, we are going to explore Winter Fashion By Decade. Starting with the 1920's. If you live in a warm climate-or Southern Hemisphere check out my series of Swimwear By Decade I posted a few years back.

Women in the 1920's hardly seem bothered by the cold. Silk and knit underwear was popular as well as layers of wool and velvet.

Wool velour and fur trim! These coats do look warm and glamorous! No goose down and polartec, though like we have today.

The Collegiate sportswear look was becoming popular outside of sports for the first time, as well as on the slopes. Women could be casual in sweaters, tweeds, and argyles during the day.
But of course, glamour girls have got to be glamorous. The bigger the fur trim the better! Many furs popular in the 1920's have become extinct or protected.

Louise Brooks, giving us the ultimate in 1920's winter glamour. I need that coat!

My View: Winter in the City

I always enjoy the quietness of Winter, even in a city that doesn't slow down. Here are some snaps I have shared on Instagram lately during some recent snowy days and nights.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Winter Weddings

I always thought a winter wedding would be so romantic. A furry shrug, a cozy sweater, cranberry and evergreen accents, a quiet snowy landscape...

Here is some winter wedding inspiration.

How gorgeous is this dress?

Just lovely!

Love the sweater, mittens, and dashing groom!

This cake! I might have a winter themed party- just to serve this!

From my shop, ruby velvet garters.

My View: A Pretty Winter

Here's a review of some of my Instagram photos this month. I've been working hard this Winter, but I've taken time to notice the quiet beauty of the season!
To keep Instagram, you know, instant, follow me @bobbinbombshell!

If you've been following me on Instagram, you've seen these beauties grow and come to life. I received a bulb garden for a Christmas gift and I've loved watching the Paper Whites and Amaryllis bloom.

We've had a cold yet very clear and sunny January. Here's a snap I captured of the Flatiron building in Manhattan with the winter sun shining on it.

I'm loving tweeds this year! Some yummy new yarn for winter projects!

Back From Vacation, Back To Work

I'm back from a restful vacation. I spent 5 days in New Hampshire visiting my sister and her family. It was very cold and there was so much snow! Here I am in front of a giant snow bank from my sister's single car driveway...not a parking lot. I'm wearing my vintage chenille winter coat that I actually bought in New Hampshire at a great vintage boutique not too far from this snowbank, in 1995 for $18! Unfortunately the shop no longer exists but the coat does, and it is my warmest! The handbag is my Alexander McQueen bag I bought last year in Miami for a lot more than $18. Save on the coat...splurge on the bag! Ok, back to work.

Mid-Week Inspiration: Charade

In keeping with my 60's ski chalet theme from yesterday, this week's mid-week inspiration is a still of Audrey Hepburn in the film Charade. This scene in the movie is fantastic and she looks flawless. I love the large sunglasses with the fur hat. Winter chic at it's finest!
