On My Wishlist: Fully Fashioned Stockings

After putting together my last post about vintage fully fashioned stockings I have set out to find some modern versions. As mentioned, fully fashioned stockings are becoming increasingly hard to manufacture, which can mean high prices. But if you simply must have a pair (and I think I do!) here are a few noteworthy ones to add to your list.

Of course we can rely on Dita Von Teese to have an authentic stocking line. Her collection is available at Secrets in Lace. I adore these diamond backseams!

Cervin stockings are still made in France and are the real deal. These French heel "Swing Time" stockings are classy!

What Katie Did puts a lot of effort into keeping the fully fashioned stocking dream alive. These Empire, also known as Manhattan, heel stockings are a must have.

My Vintage Vanity: Daniel Green Slippers

You may remember earlier this year I was on the search for vintage boudoir slippers. Having a size 10 shoe size has made this hunt something I thought would be impossible. I came really close to buying the Miss L Fire for What Katie Did repro version, but was having a hard time justifying the cost. I'm afraid, I'm just not that fabulous. Well, what seemed like a holy grail find for me has been found!

While on a recent trip to Hudson, NY for some antiquing I stumbled upon Five and Diamond Vintage, an adorable little vintage shop off the main street. I bought some vintage slips for myself and as I was about to leave I noticed these Daniel Green beauties in the glass case. Surely, they must be a size 8 if they even look close to my size.

Much to my surprise they are a 9.5 that I can get my narrow size 10 into! For a fraction of the cost of the Miss L Fire's I didn't skip a beat to grab these! Boudoir slippers are now off of my wish list and in my closet!

Aren't they gorgeous?

On My Wish List: Boudoir Slippers

I really love the old hollywood glamour of boudoir slippers with a slight heel.

With a rosette, feathers, or tulle pouf- these are a feminine necessity!

Daniel Green is one of the top vintage brands that made boudoir slippers accessible.  Do a search on Etsy for Daniel Green and you will find a big selection of delicious vintage goodies like these above from Lorins Vintage. Problem for me, no luck finding a size 10! These are a size 8, the closest to my size I've seen while vintage hunting. 3/16/2014 Edit: Lorin is now offering Bobbins And Bombshell readers 15% off her shop; Lorins Vintage, until the end of May 2014! Use coupon code BobbinsBombshells15.
So naturally, I was over the moon when What Katie Did announced that they are now selling these beauties above! Made by none other than Miss L-Fire! In retro peach or jet black, I can't wait to get my hands on or rather feet in these! What color should I get?

Full Disclosure- Bobbins And Bombshells is an affiliate of WKD. Items promoted are not gifted and are truly on my wish list.

I'm eyeing (may be ordered after I write this post) this leopard skirt.

Fashionable History: The Bullet Bra

Did I ever tell you that I got the What Katie Did Bullet Bra that was On My Wish List? Well, I did plus a whole lot more! I got the Harlow Bra in Vintage Peach and I love it. It's pictured above with the complete set. I did get the padding too as recommended for my 32B's. This cone is a real cone so I need all of the help that I can get! I love it with my vintage dresses that were, quite frankly designed with this type of lingerie in mind.

All of this fun, got me wondering about the history of the bullet bra so I did a little research:

The Bullet Bra originated in the 40's. Since it was Wartime, the name makes sense. Brassiere makers were experimenting with different kind of stitching  and insets to give us girls a lift. Underwires won't be used for a couple decades later.

A great example of creative stitching and shapes used to give an uplifted cone shape. My Harlow Bra is a near replica!

Marilyn made the Bullet Bra popular in the 50's. Pin-ups and girl next door types a like loved the shape it gave them under sweaters. They were called "Sweater Girls".

In the 60's the popularity wained as underwires were used and a more natural and smaller shape was desired. Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier brought it back in the early 90's where she wore the extreme cones as outerwear.

If you're like me, you may have a hard time finding an authentic vintage one in your size. The modern manufacturer What Katie Did makes new ones as well as other retro inspired lingerie and swimwear to ease your hunt! I love this two tone one called the Marlene. It's next on my list!

On My Wish List: What Katie Did Bullet Bra

This lovely Bullet Bra from What Katie Did won't stay on my wish list for long. In a two weeks I will be on vacation in sunny LA. Once there I am making a bee line to the What Katie Did boutique to get myself this bra. I've been wanting one for a while and now that this UK brand is stateside it makes it easier to try on. I love this look and it's time to take the plunge. Do you have one? Do you wear it on a daily basis or only with vintage? What do you think?

You don't think she got this look naturally do you?

Retro Looks In The Modern World: Lingerie

When it comes to lingerie, retro inspired is truly sexy. Instead of focusing on a retro themed editorial, for this edition of Retro Looks in the Modern World I am showcasing 4 companies that do retro lingerie right. In other words, I want it all!

Lucy B. out of Los Angeles, has a great variety of affordable camisoles, bras, panties etc. Some designed in collaboration with pin-up model Bernie Dexter.

oooh, Rigby & Peller from London. High end deliciousness. Their 70th anniversary collection, Platinum, pulled from their archives is amazing! Look at that cone bra!

What can I say about What Katie Did, other than I wish they were stateside! The best looking bullet bras I've seen plus a fantastic selection of seamed stockings.

Dirty Dolls Lingerie has a romantic approach to their retro line. This one is pretty enough to wear on the outside!
