Mood & Music Mosaic #11

King of Anything - Sara Bareilles

It's King's Day this Wednesday. Everyone dresses up in orange (although I might cheat and go red, white, blue again…) and sells or buys old stuff on the street. So far the weather forecast isn't great, but I'm pretty sure I'll go out for my yearly tradition of hunting cheap Disney movies (and picking up a few other treasures as well)… even if it's just for a little while.

Do you have anything exciting planned this week? Or did you maybe thrift anything cool recently?

King's Day Loot

This year I've grown a lot stricter about the number of items that enter my house, but I make exceptions on certain occasions. An obvious one was King's Day. The one day a year people sell their stuff for very, very low prices...

Now I did only get things I really really wanted. And I even got a few things for free. Anyway, I think I paid 5 bucks for this whole pile of books, not bad right? One of those books was already in an online cart for more than that.

And I can not tell you how many times I nearly bought a copy of The Great Gatsby… There were so many stunning covers that I couldn't choose! This one, however, is probably the prettiest one I've seen so far. And it even contained a hidden treasure. The book itself isn't old at all, but inside I did find a vintage snapshot of someone's vacation...

Another great score was this record! It's in quite a good condition and only cost 50 cents. And even though it has me incredibly excited, I still haven't managed to take it for a spin yet. But I plan on doing so sometime this week!

One of the shows I really miss since quitting my cable is Castle. So when I found five seasons for the price of one new one, I didn't have to think for long. I've been binge-watching the episodes ever since. It is such a great show!

My goal for the day was to get some good deals on things that would entertain me for quite a while after. Especially tv-shows because those are a whole lot pricier new. Anyway, I consider this mission greatly accomplished!

King's Day Loot

I think I mentioned it was King's Day recently -yes, the same as Queen's Day, but we now happen to have a King-, such a great holiday! Of course this meant lots of cheap shopping, so I'm here to show you what loot I came home with!

I got more clothing -most will pop up in outfit posts-… but these two were €3 each! The super long dress is fantastic! I mean you could get married in that thing, it's that amazing! Also, dvds! Half creepy, half Disney. Perfect!

Doing jigsaws is very underrated these days. It is so much fun and it so addictive! I forgot about it for a while, but finding this beautiful Tarepanda puzzle made me get back into it again. I started right away!

Most of the merchandise is second hand on King's Day, however there are some people with either handmade things or brand new stuff. These combine the two. All natural and they smell so good! So a nice unexpected treasure.

Also handmade is this beautiful necklace. I got a few others as well, but they'll probably pop up in outfit posts sooner or later, so I'm just showing you one today. Isn't it adorable, though? The black beads even have confetti glitter!

The last thing, though the very first purchase that day, is a bunch of yarn. It's a linen/cotton-blend, if I'm not mistaken. And I love those colors! Can't wait to think of a summer project and start knitting!

As you can see it was day well spent. I always love this holiday, but every time it's over I find myself very glad that it's only once a year, because it's so exhausting as well. But it's so very worth it too!

Queen's Day through My Nikon

As promised here are my pictures from Queen's Day. It was raining at first, so I couldn't take any pictures then, but it stopped eventually. The sun came out later and so did my camera.

This picture basically sums up Queen's Day, this was a genuine antique stand, most people just sell old clothes or toys or movies, although there is definitely some new merchandise too.

You can also find a few artists selling their work. This man is pretty well known in Amsterdam, he made a mosaic in the center of the city, but he also paints.

Apart from all the buying and selling, it's a chance for kids to show their musical skills and earn a little (or a lot of) money doing it. It's mostly just really cute though.

Just when I was about to head home, I met a group of amazing looking people. I asked if I could take a picture and they said it was ok, so I took a few. They were really nice and I love the pink hair and make up.

Now onto the things I bought. My favorite item is a porcelain doll's head. It looks like it came out of a Mark Ryden painting and that's exactly what I'm planning to do with it, draw or paint it. Her hair is a bit messy, but I'll leave it like that because I'm afraid to mess with the vibe.

You might know about my love for medieval sad women's portraits. And I happened to found one, tiny, but nevertheless a serene little woman.

Of course I was on the lookout for owls, it was only at the very last minute that I found some, including these:

I managed to get my hands on some other great things as well. Including a book about Frida Kahlo that was under a dollar, very cheap tin advertising signs(love those!) and a few items of clothing.

What started out as a wet and depressing day turned out to be nice and sunny and full of surprises.

I hope one day you'll get to visit Amsterdam on Queen's Day, but for now I hope you enjoyed my pictures.

Lovely TV Shows

Today was Queen's Day.
Once a year everyone dresses up in orange and goes outside to either sell their old stuff or buy other people's old stuff. I chose the latter.

It was raining at first, everything was getting wet and after a few minutes I was willing to give up, but I didn't and it turned out to be a great day in the end.

I will share a few pictures with you this weekend, but today I'd like to talk about just one of my acquisitions, a brand new box of Dirty Sexy Money's first season.

I love that show, but I hear they won't be making any new episodes. If any of you know whether that's true or not, please tell me.

It was just so much fun to watch, it had humor, a great plot and a killer cast. My absolute favorite person is Lisa George, the lead character's wife played by Zoe McLellan, who you might know from J.A.G.(which was awesome too). I just love her and she may or may not have been the most important reason to get the dvd box.

Here's a little fanmade trailer to give you an idea:

P.S. Against my own rules, although I did have an excuse, I made a few new bookmarks for my Etsy. I have two bow bookmarks, here and here, and there will be a few more listed soon.
