If you're a fan of Mad Men, you'll definitely want to read the following conspiracy theories on Megan Draper's outfit last Sunday night. And they're just that - theories. Of course, the coincidences are right here, and there's no denying this could mean something big, especially since the series ends next year. Also, don't forget Stonewall happened in 1969... definitely something to make you go "hmmm... "
Thank you, James St. James over at WOW for sharing this amazing piece.I couldn't have said it better myself.
On Sunday night’s episode of Mad Men, Megan Draper wore what seemed like a weirdly anachronistic T-shirt with
a red star on it. Not her usual style, and more ’80s than ’60s. But
apparently the red star T-shirt was identical to one that Sharon Tate
wore in an infamous 1967 Esquire photograph taken by William Helburn (pictured left). Helburn’s daughter tweeted Mad Men’s
head costume designer, Janie Bryant, asking, “Dying to know if this pic
of Sharon Tate inspired Megan’s look? My dad shot it for @esquiremag in
‘67. ” Bryant confirmed: “No coincidence! So nice to tweet meet you.” Since the exchange, an entire Reddit thread
has formed, speculating about the symbolism of the shirt and any
foreshadowing it could have for Jessica Paré’s character. According to Vanity Fair:
“Like fictional Megan, Sharon Tate was an up-and-coming television
actress in the 1960s. While married to Roman Polanskiand
eight-and-a-half-months pregnant with his child, Tate was murdered in
her home byCharles Mansonfollowers. Earlier this season, Megan
admitted that she had suffered a miscarriage. While wearing the T-shirt
in last Sunday’s episode, Megan is standing on the balcony outside her
and Don’sManhattan apartment while ambulance sirens ring out below — a
nod to the city’s increased crime rates, which are acknowledged many
times throughout the episode.” All of which could spell DOOM for poor
Megan. Jezebel‘s Tracy Egan Morrissey has another theory, though: “While costume design on Mad Men
has been as deliberate and layered as the writing on the show, the red
star could also be a red herring. After all, Tate wasn’t murdered until
1969, but something else happened to her 1968 — she got pregnant just as
her acting career was taking off.”
Who never had an Etch A Sketch growing up? If you didn't, I don't know what to tell you. You lost out on a piece of history that you'll probably never get back. LOL. Don't get me wrong, you can still buy them, but c'mon would you? Why would you want to buy it when you have the PS3, Xbox, or Wii?
These were the coolest things ever! You could draw with them, write with them, take notes with them, and then erase it within a matter of seconds. A simple shake is all it took. The two white knobs, and the stylus underneath the gray screen did all the work. All you would do is move the knobs around and line would appear.
Ironically enough, the toy was invented in the late 1950s and not the 80s like you might have imagined. The toy became popular in the 60s, so I'm sure you're grandmother played with one before you ever got to. Regardless, it has become one of the most creative toys of the 20th century. It was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1998. [source]
Well, I found another place for Ryan and I to visit when we go on our travels. :-)
Make sure to check out my previous "Keeping It Old Skool" issues here.
I'm sure by now every kid in America has grown up playing with some type of Nerf product. Growing up I used to play with the guns and sportballs, they were so much fun. Of course back in the 80's we didn't have quite the selection they do now. Watching this video brings back memories, it was definitely fun to watch.
Most of the toys are made of a foam-based material and are neon in color. Parker Brothers created the toy in 1969, according to Wikipedia, but didn't really take off until the 1980's and 1990's.
Caution: Watch as these kids partake in a violent nerf battle, but it's unlike any you've seen before. This one comes complete with blood and gore. Kudos to whoever put this together, though, it may not be suitable for children to watch. LOL. literally.
Since the new movie is about the start of X-men (a prequel of sorts), the magazines reflect publications made back in the 60's; One can pretty much tell by the lettering who they are paying homage to. Starting with the first magazine,Vogue, the second one, Esquire, and the third, Life. The fourth one doesn't reflect a vintage collection, but posted it anyway.
"There's a certain sound, Always follows me around. When you're close to me you will hear it. It's the sound that lovers finally will discover, When there is no other for their love. It's my happy heart you hear, Singing loud and singing clear, And it's all because you're near, Be my love."
I first heard those lyrics on the movie "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss," and ever since then it has remained in my head; I don't know why, but it just makes me happy hearing it. I guess, because I've never been so in love. In less than 2 months it will be 6 years for Ryan and I, and I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have by my side, maybe it's his Happy Heart I hear.
The song, "Happy Heart" was released by Petula Clark back in 1969, and of course along with it, some controversy. Think of it as today's Lady Gagastealing Madonna's music (as if). I don't know much about it, just that Andy Williams had also released that same song, the same year. All that aside, I like Petula's version better anyway.
Clark was born in Epsom, Surrey, England, who later became an actress, singer and composer, whose career has spanned seven decades. She has made countless movies and numerous singles, several in French, German, Italian and Spanish; Quite fascinating to say the least. You can read more about Petula's extinguished career at Wikidpedia.com, but for now, let's take flashback to the 1960's and listen to Happy Heart.
