I'm really loving the work of Rui Ribeiro...so much so I ordered a case for my new Iphone with the Half 2 print from Society6. I think I might have to order a few prints too. Check out more of Rui's work here.

2 New Art

I'm in the market for some new affordable art. I ordered these two prints from Mammoth Collection yesterday that I'm super excited about!

I'll be honest, although I love them and what they are doing, I get a little frustrated with the shipping costs of many of the affordable art sites (like 20x200 and Little Paper Planes).  It's probably totally justifiable on their end, but often causes me to second guess my purchases.  BUT, right now Mammoth Collection is offering 25% off every print in their collection using the discount code "FATHERSDAY"...more than makes up for shipping costs.  Thanks Mammoth Collection!

Anyone have any other art suggestions for me, and/or discount shipping codes!?

I posted about the artwork of Moofus a while back, but I think it might be about time to pick up a few of his prints.  The Beach House is still my favorite.

0 Artist Andy Vogt

Lovely artwortk from artist Andy Vogt.

All objects have a beginning and an end, at least when it comes to our economic value system. Objects allude to reference points in the built landscape, our own reality, and we reinforce this structural vernacular on many levels from the cubes that we live in to what we imagine a fence "means". Our burning need to make order out of chaos subsides only briefly before our true entropic nature overrides us and trashes it all.

Mining San Francisco's dumpsters I salvage wood strips of plaster lath discarded during home renovation projects and re-assemble them into geometric wall drawings and structures. I see these works as re-crystallized skeletal incarnations of an obsoleted system that has been frozen in suspended animation. Their shapes have a hazy connection to literal structures but subscribe to alternate formal hierarchies.

The materials are what have driven this body of work. Their history, both natural and as a building material, form the basis of their re-use.

2 Laurie Lipton

I know this doesn't quite fit with my usual aesthetic, but I cannot stop thinking about this drawing, Leashed Passion, from artist Laurie Lipton.  The level of detail is unbelievable...

2 I Like to Draw. I am Awesome.

I Like to Draw. I am Awesome. Pencil and notepad from The Small Object...I so need this.
I like to draw. I am awesome. These two sentences are etched into the sides of two wonderful blue pencils that are included in this pencil pack along with one 50-page drawing pad. The notepad is handbound and features 50 different pages of ideas to draw at the top of each--from "Draw a picture of your meal and don't forget the crumbs" to "Draw a picture of a map of a place you would like to visit." Packaged in a glassine bag that has been embossed with the product information.
Found thanks to Making It Lovely.

3 {365} A Drawing a Day...

This year, I wanted to make a resolution that was a bit different.  I still pledged to myself that I would work out more, get stressed less, and follow my budget...but more importantly I decided to do a drawing everyday.

I miss drawing...a lot.  All through high school I had art first period every morning, it was such a fantastic way to start they day and I LOVED it.  In college of course being in Architecture School meant that I started out proving my drawing abilities, but things quickly moved to more technical drawing.  Now being an Architect is a continuation of that idea.  There is so little hand and creative drawing and designing that goes into my job unfortunately.  The drawing that I do is technical and precise and there is an emphasis on perfection. {Future Architects...take note.  They don't tell you things like this...but it is still a great job to have.}

So, I decided to do a little exercise.  One drawing a day.  Some take a few seconds, some an hour.
The goals are trifold:
To draw...
To be inspired by all the little things..
To be ok with something that is imperfect...

So, on the last Sunday of each month I plan on sharing a few of my favorite drawing from the month here.  All the drawings can be seen at my Flickr.

1 Eon Wrap

I love this description:
The undulating eon pattern is a to-scale original pen + ink drawing, inspired by the bark of trees, the movement of the sea, and the accumulation of time.
