1 Inspiration for the Living Room | Low and Grey

It's time for a living room renovation at my parent's mid century modern poolhaus.  We ripped up the old green carpet last week, and have been strongly considering concrete floors. The room is long, with two walls of windows, and a long low fireplace.  Our color palette is white, grey, and wood (we have a lot of original wood details).  These images are perfect inspiration, I hope our end product looks like this.

0 Eisdieler Ice Cream Parlor | March Gut

I love the use of triangles here, and how the gradation of black and white provides the perfect backdrop for the ice cream colors to pop. So fun.

0 Work Space | Lindsay Stetson Thompson

Lindsay Stetson Thompson's Work Space from the Spaces series on Eva Black Design {which I love, by the way}.  I adore the use of the curtain wires from Ikea for inspiration display, such a great idea. I've been working on an happiness/inspiration board for my desk this week. I might have to steal this...

3 SFGirlByBay's Amazing Custom Shelves

Have you seen the custom shelving unit that Victoria of SFGirlByBay had made?  It is the handiwork of SF craftsman and woodworker, Michael Woo... and it is fantastic. See many more images of the shelving and the rest of Victoria's amazing little cottage at SFGirlByBay.

2 The Design Files Open House

I get excited every time I come across an image of The Design Files Open House.  I'm not sure why I haven't dedicated a post to it yet.  Lucy is amazing and the house is completely inspirational. Basically Lucy and her team transformed a beautiful home in Windsor, Melbourne, to create a pop-up retail event. (Side note: why are pop-up shops so awesome?  Maybe the temporariness?). They carefully selected a group of awesome designers, artist and makers to fill this space.  The outcome was fantastic.

Please visit Lucy's Blog, The Design Files for many more images and source information for the furniture, art, and other great items.

1 Tenka Gammelaard

Holy Crap.  I think I just found my inspiration motherload.

The studio and home of artist Tenka Gammelaard, who is clearly a very very awesome person.  Good grief.  I don't even know what to say.  So many more awesome images on her blog here.

0 Bella Barcelona

Another home that I could move right into.  Perfect balance of clean simplicity with warm comfort.  I'd also like to live in a loft, well period.  But especially with high wooden beam ceilings and windows like those.

0 NW 13th Avenue Loft

NW 13th Avenue Loft from Jessica Helgerson Interior Design ....So many good things here. The living room and bathroom are absolute perfection, in my opinion.  The kitchen is great with the big wood table and oversized pendant light.  The graphic tapestry heaboard is well done, especially with the monochromativ bathroom.  I'd like to move in now.

1 The Old Library

This is a great space. Defining the bar with that steel and glass structure was clever, and the bathroom...awesome.

From the designer:
Located in a seaside suburb of Sydney, the Old Library was originally a Methodist church build circa 1908, and went on to be the shire library in the 1970’s. The original building had great bones and an existing level of texture (exposed beams and timber lining). Working within the voluminous spaces we created a sense of intimacy and gathering through creating a series of rooms within rooms and spaces within spaces. Custom furniture pieces and a natural palette of oak, linen, white timber and blackened steel contribute to the relaxed and somewhat domestic space that is The Old Library.

0 Surfhouse Hermosa Beach XTEN Architecture

Surfhouse designed by XTEN Architecture is not far from our house, down the street from our landlord's house.  We pass it each time we drop off our rent check, and every time we get excited.  It is quite visually stunning with its black geometric exterior.  I'd love to move in.

From the designer:
The facade is made from rough sawn, black stained cedar planks with volumetric openings at primary program spaces and a system of identical vertical casement windows arrayed across the secondary elevations for specific views and ventilation. The interior is all light and air, with bamboo floors and walls of glass that slide away to bring the beachside environment inside.

5 More Living Room Inspiration

I seriously cannot stop thinking about that vintage stool....does anyone know anything about it?  I NEED it!

Also, we've been eyeing those shelves from Ikea that A Merry Mishap has in her living room.  I think we need them for our entry area.

Found thanks to SFGirlByBay and A Merry Mishap.

Update 1: Thank you to the anonymous commenter!  The stool is Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen.

Update 2:  I got one!!!

2 Inspiration: Black Walls

You know I'm a fan of black accent walls.  These two examples are crazy good.  Using black on the rear wall of a staircase makes the slope wall pop, adding dimension to the room. Painting a wall behind a workspace black especially when the rest of the room is light works so well.
