Watercolor Chart

I used 3 tubes of paint
one yellow
one red
one blue
all Daniel Smith

I taped down cheap washi tape from the dollar store
(use good tape! It kept peeling off)
the squares are about 3/4" with thin tape between

I labeled my colors along the top
and
one side
next began mixing colors

then the color mixing began
painting in the squares

Above is the finished piece before I peeled the tape off.

It might have taken a couple of hours.

I find the amount of colors
144 amazingly beautiful
and
thrilling to consider they came from three
primary colors!

Now I have a chart to choose colors from
as well
an idea as to how to make them again>

Thank you The Watercolour Academy for showing me how to go
about this!

(Emma offers these lessons free!)

Sylvan Fantasy

summer grass is turning golden
fruits ripen every where I look
we are entering the serious harvest season

two days ago
I noticed the days light is getting shorter

it feels good to sit down
sketch
and paint

another fungi floral fantasy piece

~
I hope you are enjoying your season
be it summer or winter

she
walks with her medicine staff
always listening for the truth
beneath the surface

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice:

for 6 months the light of each day grew longer
inspiring the growth of all
 in her land
flowers, trees, fungi, animals and insects

as we
enter the season of summer
fresh food will be plenty
new flowers will grow
nature thrives
days begin to shorten

in her land
it is a time to be outside
exploring
and
sharing with loved ones
finding awe in the glory of the world

~

Lovely Solstice to you

Little Thief

little squirrel saw a
ruby necklace
took it for his own

but when the fairy turns him into stone
he might wish he had left it alone
*
a later thought:
The little squirrel is only turned to stone for 3 min, but that might seem like a lifetime to a squirrel. We must remember stones are living beings, so not so bad a punishment once one relaxes into it.

I had a little trouble coming up with a story for this one.
For fun, if a story comes to you
share it in the comments

Leprechaun

wandering through the land
of
rainbows

~

last night we got 6" of snow
winter continues to grace our land

sometimes the sun comes out when it is snowing
I always look for rainbows
but I don't know if rainbows work with snow

Art Challenge: Winter Salon

deep in a California forest
land of moss and rain
there was a winter party going on
the fungi gathered
to dance and chatter

one of them said: can you imagine living in a Montana forest
earth frozen and cloaked in snow
we could not fruit until spring

all the more reason to gather and celebrate life
~

winter Salon is our theme this week
offered by our lovely friend Stefanie

I did not know what it meant
I think it is a lovely idea to gather, visit, share and ponder
with one another

Thank you for being our host Stefanie!

Deer Man and Little Man

when he saw the little mushroom man
he knelt
to take him to heart
and
watch him do his yoga

this painting was partially inspired
by this antler I found a while ago
they fall off once a year

I hung it on my wood shed
to enjoy it daily

love that it crept into my art

Spirals and Swirls

She is a lady of peace
a watcher
a holder of sacred space

~

My palette had left over watercolors from the last painting.

I wanted to play,
sprayed water on the colors to bring them to live, ready to use.

Painted the above swirly spiraling lines letting colors blend into one another.
After it dried i noticed a subtle face:

Much texture appears in the paper of this photograph, more than the scanner picks up in the first photo.

That is how she came to life,
I found her in the swirls of color.

Playing with Color

 little bear

I am taking Danielle Donaldson's Class:

we are playing with colors
so much fun

there is an art to mixing watery color
and
not having it turn to mud

I haven't watched the lessons on doing her animals yet
but last night i drew and painted the little bear above

i think the spirit of the class is in my blood
that and
wondering daily as to when our wild bears will wake up

I find it truly fun to play with colors

thank you Danielle!

Blessed Beltane

as Beltane is upon us
the half way mark between spring equinox and summer solstice
this painting came to life
a man and his kin bear
most likely because the bears around here have woken
they now walk  the earth with us
daily i think of them
~

Lovely Spring to you ~
