Product Review: Chillessence "Be Great" Body Care Line

Chillessence is a new brand from the US dedicated to providing all-natural and eco-friendly products. Launched in April 2008, the company currently has a body care line and some jewelry collections. Chillessence is committed to making products without artificial, toxic or harmful ingredients. All the packaging and shipping use recycled and recyclable materials.

This is a review of their Body Lotion, Body Wash and Body Bar from Be Great body care line. The products from the line come with a light floral scent that is infused with a blend of essential oils.

Be Great Body Bar
The body bar is an all-natural cleanser free of parabens, petroleum, sodium, artificial colors or fragrances. It looks like a green translucent jade. If I place it by the natural light, it infuses the dull atmosphere with a zen-like radiant. The body bar has a clean floral scent with a faint hint of green note. The scent is clean and refreshing for the summer.

Be Great Body Bar Unpacked

My skin is constantly dry, even in the hot summer time. Body bar soap tends to leave my a dry and tight after-feel. Be Great Body Bar is 100 % vegetable-based, which does not make my skin feel dry. What I really like about this bar is it leaves my skin feeling
fresh and clean.

Be Great Body Wash
"be great" Body Wash has a liquidy-gel texture that feels lightweight on the skin. It is kept with the same floral scent from the "be great" line. It offers a good lather and cleanse the body effectively. After my shower, my skin feels soft and hydrated without the feeling of soapy residue. I found the Body Wash is quite moisturizing and gentle for my skin, making it a great everyday-use body wash for me.

Be Great Body Lotion
Just like the Body Bar and Body Wash, "be great" Body Lotion is blended with
organic aloe, lavender, lemon verbena, mandarin, orange extracts, olive and jojoba oils, shea butter, grape seed, green tea, Vitamins C and E for moisturization and protection against free radicals. The The Body Lotion has a light texture and gel-cream consistency. The lotion is quickly absorbed. It makes my skin feel soft and hydrated without greasy residue or sticky build-up.

Product Review: Bath Mousse & Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter from bōbē

Bath Mousse & Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter from bōbē

bōbē is a Canadian brand established in 2005 that offers bath and body products. All the products are made fresh when the customer places an order. And the ingredients are kept few and as simple as possible, which is good for sensitive skin. There are over a variety of 120 scents and flavors, blended with exotic ingredients and fragrant oils, for customer to choose from.

Bath Mousse
Bath Mousse is a body cleanser with a light scent. It is available in more than 40 scents. The one I have tried is Green Tea & Cucumber. Green Tea & Cucumber has a delightful green note. It is pleasantly light and uplifting. The scent is suitable for hot summer days.

Bath Mousse has an extraordinary feather-light texture. It has a fluffy mousse consistency. It turns into gentle foam in seconds when it is in contact with the skin. It feels like whipped cream, so silky and velvety on the skin. In fact, it feels so smooth and light that it also works as a good shaving cream. The mousse cleanser leaves my skin soft and moisturized.

Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter
Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter provides moisture and soften the dry rough skin. It is made with a non-greasy formula. It leaves my skin soft and supple with good moisture without any sticky or filmy feeling. I can feel a touch of moist residue on the skin soon after the body cream is applied. But then, it does take some time to go away, presumably absorbed into skin.

Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter has a whipped cream-like texture. It is easy to distribute the cream onto the skin. I have tried the one in the scent of Shooting Star. It is a sweet fruity aroma with a grassy note. I like the lightness and crispness of the green note. The sweet part is a little overpowering initially, but it starts to go away after a little while. I personally prefer clean green notes for bath and body products. For people who love sweet fruity aromas, Shooting Star would be the scent you will like.

You can purchase bōbē bath and body products at its website. The company is committed to giving back and supporting charities. 5% of bōbē retail sales are given to a different charity in each month.

Product Review: Aloette Invigorating Body Scrub and Clarifying Hair Shine Collection

I've posted a review on a few cosmetics from Aloette last week. This time, I am bringing you the review on Invigorating Body Scrub and Clarifying Hair Shine Collection from Aloette.

Invigorating Body Scrub
The Invigorating Body Scrub line consists of three aroma scented body scrubs; including White Chocolate & Orange Body Scrub, Green Tea & Mint Body Scrub and Sandalwood Body Scrub. The body scrub does not parabens and sodium lauryl sulfate. It features a blend of natural ingredients, including natural leaf extracts, fruit extracts and sugar cane extracts.

The Green Tea & Mint is my favorite scent in the line. The scent is light and refreshing. The Sandalwood scent is woody and sensuous. The aroma of Chocolate & Orange is too sweet for my liking. Overall, I enjoy using the Invigorating Body Scrub. The creamy texture goes on easily. The microbeads doesn't feel grainy or harsh. It can lightly foams with the water, and leaves my skin soft, smooth and clean.

Clarifying Hair Shine Collection The Clarifying Hair Shine Collection comes with Clarifying Shampoo, Clarifying Conditioner and Clarifying Shine Serum. The Clarifying Hair Shine Collection aims to revitalize the hair, add moisture, shine and volume to the hair.

The Clarifying Shampoo and Clarifying Conditioner are formulated with rice protein, vitamin B, aloe, wheat amino acids and silk amino acids. Aloe and wheat provide moisture. And rice protein protects against color fading, residue build-up and frizz.

Vitamin E and soy protein in The Clarifying Shine Serum provide hydration and nourishment. Dimethicone works as a shine agent and cuticle protector to make the hair manageable and silky smooth.

The Clarifying Shampoo and Clarifying Conditioner does a good job strengthening and adding volume to my hair. My hair feels healthy and stronger. The volume lasts decently well between the days I wash my hair. The Clarifying Shampoo and Clarifying Conditioner leaves my hair fairly moisturized. It is not adequate, however, for long and dry hair like mine (past to the shoulder blades).

The Clarifying Shine Serum is my favorite in the collection. By simply massaging a right amount of it into the hair, it softens, smoothes and hydrates the hair. My hair regain moisture and lightness within minutes. The Clarifying Shine Serum works great as a finishing mist to tame down the frizz and adds a healthy radiance to the hair.

Aloette does not test their products on animals. You can buy Aloette products from Aloette. At this time, the website only accepts order that ship to the US and Canada.

Product Review: Belli Foot Relief Cream & Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator

Product Review: Belli Foot Relief Cream & Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator

Belli is a skin care brand from the US that develops products especially for expectant and new mothers. The company takes high safety standards and thorough screening processes to ensure no harmful ingredients in its formulations linked to birth defects.

The range of Belli's products is mainly divided into three collections: Belli Pregnancy, Belli Motherhood and Belli Baby. Each of these products is designed for specific needs at different stages of motherhood.

The products are created with natural, organically grown ingredients, free of dyes, synthetic fragrances and paraben preservatives. All the products are allergy tested, which is a great plus for sensitive skin type, just like mine. I had the pleasure of trying a few products from Belli. I am going to share with you my review on the Foot Relief Cream and Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator.
Elegant Packaging
The appearances of these two products are simple, yet elegant. Its silver, lavender and white color packaging is very organic and lovely.

Foot Relief CreamFoot Relief Cream features peppermint, tea tree oil and shea butter, which provide an aroma-therapeutic, anti-bacterial, moisturizing treatment to the swollen, tired feet and legs. Belli's Foot Relief Cream has a light soothing scent of peppermint and a cream texture. The cream texture is lightweight. It does take a little extra time to rub the cream until the cream feels workable. Once the cream feels workable, it is very easy to distribute the cream and gently massage into areas. What I really love about the foot cream is it remains workable throughout the duration of massage.

Some of the foot creams I have tried before tend to develop flaky bits during the process of massage. I really dislike the flaky bits. This is a big no-no when it comes to foot cream (in fact, for any kind of creams). Usually, I love to do a deep massage for my feet and legs, back and forth for a few times, to relieve muscle tension and ache. It needs more glide and workability for deep massage and better absorption of foot cream. The kind of foot cream I like has to allow enough time for a thorough massage without drying out and causing flakes too early. To my great delight, Belli Foot Relief Cream does not cause flakes easily during the massage treatment.

It leaves the skin a pleasant non-greasy finish. My feet and legs feel relieved and relaxed after the soothing massage. Belli Foot Relief Cream leaves the skin feeling refreshed without the cool feeling like other foot creams. I enjoy the cool feeling during the hot summer weather but not in the winter. That could be too cold and too uncomfortable in a cold weather.

Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator
Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator is a body scrub featuring green tea, ginseng and peppermint. These natural ingredients are known for their anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It has a very refreshing and light minty scent. The particles are so refined that they gently slough dead skin and soften the skin without any harsh feeling.

Sum-up
I love Belli's natural and gentle approach to the skin products. The ingredients and scents of the Foot Relief Cream and Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator are so mild that revive the skin and gives me peace of mind. The packaging style is classy and elegant. Whether you are pregnant or not, it is worth considering Belli's skin-care and body-care products.

The website of Belli accepts domestic orders online from within the US. Click here for a store locator near your place or online retailers that ship internationally.

Product Review: EcoTools Cosmetic Brushes and Bath Accessories

EcoTools is one of the eco-savvy lines on the market devoted to promote the green consciousness and earth-loving products. In conjunction with Earth Day (April 22), I am bringing you a review of some EcoTools cosmetic brushes and bath accessories.

Launched in March, 2008, EcoTools features a collection of makeup and bath accessories. Every detail of the collection is naturally chic:
  • Makeup brushes: the handles are made of bamboo. The brushes are made of animal-free synthetic taklon bristles. Ferrule is made from recycled aluminum.
  • Bath accessories: they are primarily made of natural plant or vegetable like ramie (a flowering plant as one of the oldest fiber crops), loofah (made from natural vegetable fibers), 100% cotton and bamboo. Bathing sponge is made from recycled plastic bottles
In addition, EcoTools will donate 1% of its annual sales to "1% For The Planet", an organization committed to leveraging their resources for a healthier planet.

EcoTools Makeup Brushes from the Left: Powder Brush, Blush Brush,
Foundation Brush, Eye Shading Brush, Eyeliner Brush, Lash & Brow Groomer

Review on EcoTools Makeup Brushes:
There are 6 sort of brushes in the EcoTools collection, including Powder Brush, Blush Brush, Foundation Brush, Angled Eyeliner Brush and last but not least, Lash & Brow Groomer. Compared with my other brushes made of natural hairs or synthetic bristles, I am amazed how soft EcoTools makeup brushes feel on skin. These bristles not only are dense and thick for picking up shades, they are also very durable. They are very easy to apply and efficient to blend colors.

EcoTools Makeup Brushes from the Right: Powder Brush, Blush Brush,
Foundation Brush, Eye Shading Brush, Eyeliner Brush and Lash & Brow Groomer

I like all of them except the Lash & Brow Groomer. Compared to other brushes in the line, the bristles of Lash & Brow Groomer are less dense. So the brush is a little too thin to work the job for my brows. Second, the bristles are a little stiff for my skin.

EcoTools Makeup Brushes

My favorite pieces from the line are Powder Brush, Blush Brush and Eye Shading Brush. I love the soft, fluffy texture the brushes feel on skin. The sizes and shapes of these bristles work efficiently setting makeup. They help deliver an even finish.

EcoTools Bath Accessories from the Right: Bamboo Foot File,
Bamboo and Loofah Facial Buffs,
Ramie Bath & Shower Mitt and Loofah & Cotton Body Buff

Review on Bath Accessories:
The Loofah & Cotton Body Buff, Ramie Bath & Shower Mitt and Bamboo Foot File do a good job exfoliating the skin. Loofah has a coarse and hard texture. I find loofah buffs feels a little too hard on my skin even after soaked wet. My skin is dry and sensitive, so I normally don't use a facial or body buff on a daily basis.

I do prefer to use Loofah & Cotton Body Buff once or twice a week for the elbows, knees and feet, and use the facial buffs to gently scrub my face in small circles once a week, prior to my moisturizing mask time. It is good to get rid of dead skin and allow facial mask to fully moisturize my skin. Ramie Bath & Shower Mitt, however, is perfect for everyday use.

Part of the EcoTools Bath Accessories

Overall, EcoTools makeup brushes are soft, pliable and easy to apply for a flawless makeup coverage. The bath accessories also work great exfoliating and cleansing the face and body. The brush accessories range from USD$2.99 to $10.99, while the bath accessories range from USD$1.99 to $5.99. The line is available at select Walgreens, Kmart and Ulta stores. The prices are a bargain! It is definitely easy going green!

Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Body Serum

After the success of Restore & Renew Beauty Serum in 2007, Boots has launched Protect & Perfect line, expanded from the Beauty Serum to Day Cream, Night Cream, Eye Cream, Body Serum, and Anti-Aging Serum for Men. The Protect & Perfect line is formulated with age defying ingredients to repair the signs of aging, even out skin tone, and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles for younger, firmer and luminous skin.

On my previous post about Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Line, I mentioned it is possible that the day cream, night cream and eye cream from the line will hit the shelves in the US this coming fall. However, Protect & Perfect Body Serum ($24.99) already is the newbie available at Target stores in the US. It was out on the market in UK back in October, 2007. Boots Body Serum claims to promote a firmer appearance, and restore luminous skin in four weeks.

Restore & Renew Beauty Serum is for use under a facial moisturizer while the body serum (200 ml for $24.99) is intended to be applied solo. Most of the reviews I have come across conclude that the Body Serum is richer than the texture of Beauty Serum, but it goes on smooth and refines the skin texture noticeably. However, the opinions on whether the Body Serum delivers a positive effect on lessening fine lines vary.

I notice Body Serum is not featured on the Target website at this point. Have any of you spotted this new product at Target store yet?

Product Review: Roxy Fragrance and Delicate Shower Gel

Roxy is a women’s sportswear brand from California since 1990. Its clothings are designed especially for outdoor fun while keeping a fit, flexible and feminine style. Today, the brand has expanded to offer every aspect from sportswear, everyday outfit, tide watch, handbag and Roxy fragrance. I am not an outdoor person in any way. But when I was asked to test out a package of Roxy fragrance, I sure would love to take this opportunity to sample the scent of Roxy spirit - "daring, confident, naturally beautiful, fun and alive."

The sample package includes a Roxy Eau de Toilette (100ml for $58) and a Delicate Shower Gel (150ml for $20.) Roxy fragrance is created by the perfumer at Givaudan (the world's leading company in the industry of flavors and fragrances), Antoine Maisondieu. The fragrance is inspired by the spirit and lifestyle of Roxy. Following is Antoine's brief olfactory translation:
"In order to give the scent a unique signature, to create a dynamic olfactory rhythm and sublime all the facets of the Roxy attitude, I first of all punctuated it with a zest of citrus fruits and velvety berries to illustrate its energetic, playful character. Then, I added Magnolia, Lily of the Valley and Violet: joyful flowers with luminous essences. Lastly, I chose Musk and a magnificent "organic" Ylang which - when married with the tropical richness of the Frangipani flower - illuminate the ensemble in a Salted Amber harmony." [Source: roxy.com]

To me, the fragrance of Roxy is quite feminine, joyful, and fresh. As the first and second spritzes burst into air around me, I can sense citrus and red berries immediately. My first impression of it (or first impression of the "top notes" ) is fruity and overly sweet. But it disappears quickly within minutes. Within half hour or so, the middle notes starts to emerge. I enjoy Roxy's middle notes very much. The combination of lily of the valley, violet, magnolia, organic ylang-ylang is subtle and feminine. I especially like the clean floral scent of Lily of the Valley quietly along in the ride. Musk and amber in the base notes harmonize the floral middle notes and hold the fragrance together.

Overall, I enjoy Roxy fragrance a lot. It is a delicately floral fragrance, but not overpowering. It is suitable for everyday use at daytime or preferably in the spring and summer time. The Delicate Shower Gel is also delightful. It contains pearl extract, and is easy to lather up. It leaves my skin a light fruity scent, and enhances the application of the Roxy fragrance.

Roxy fragrance features:
  • Top notes: Citrus, red berries
  • Middle notes: Lily of the valley, violet, magnolia, organic ylang-ylang
  • Base notes: Musk, frangipani blossom, amber

I just had a great time shopping with my friend this afternoon, enjoying the 20% off shopping spree. We were so thrilled to find out the nice quality of Crabtree & Evelyn hand creams. There are different lines of hand creams and they have different scents. My friend bought Lavender Hand & Body Lotion (8.5 fl. oz for $18 On sale: $14.40) and India Hicks Island Living Spider Lily Body Cream (7 oz for $30.00 On sale: $24). I simply love the scent of Lavender and Spider Lily as well! I will post up how the Gardeners Hand Therapy Cream feels like later on. Please stay tuned! In the mean time, you may also take the opportunity to stop by Crabtree & Evelyn between the sale dates. There are quite a lot of good stuff you can stock up!
